Simply reinstall the application from the Apps menu to get the latest version: hold down the center button once the app is highlighted and choose "Reinstall." One shouldn't have to do this if the have Auto-Update in the Application app's options menu enabled (I never do).

Amazon, Hulu and YouTube are still running April versions.
Thanks for the info.

Was 1131 pushed to your TV? I still see 1121.1 on Samsung's US website. I updated to 1132 from the Korean website last week so it seems unusual that there is an update with a lower number. Korean website usually coincides with the US website. What threads did you see this on? Thanks.

It's running on my TV as I type this, yes. Updated OTA.

Korean site usually has FWs listed about 2-3 weeks ahead.

Thanks. Have you noticed any other improvements to the picture? I found the blacks were blacker, but the dimming issue still persisted with version 1132. Let's hope the next update fixes the dimming.

I'm going to mess with the TV this evening when I have some more time. Honestly, like many of you, I'm only really concerned with the dimming issues. Apart from a few minor software hiccups, I'm pretty happy with this unit when it decides to work properly.

It's $2k less than the other flagship sets, and performs very similarly (besting them in some areas as well).

I agree. The one thing I forgot to point out was HDR+ seems to have improved in this update. Faces don't seem to have the "bronze' look and picture seems to be even brighter than before the update. Still like to watch in Movie mode though. Netflix looked excellent while watching Stranger Things in 4k. So did Marco Polo in HDR. No complaints there. So far so good and as we get updates, the picture should get even better. I've had my 78HU9000 for over 2 years and the picture has gotten progressively better with every firmware update and we are still getting updates. I'd expect to see the same with the KS9800.

Good to hear about the update improving PQ and HDR+, will check for the FW this evening and see if it pops up and report back - sadly I've been without Internet for 3 days now, finally got it setup today.

Im really torn right now.
It seems like this is the only FALD tv on the market that can properly handle HDR gaming without any added inputlag. Test have shown alot of tv:s this year have a really high inputlag when enabling HDR. Im getting PS4 pro this year but the local dimming issue people have reported here disturbs me a little.

Just to remind you, I am on 1132. The update being pushed to the TV is 1131. I couldn't tell you what the difference is between the two since I never was 1131. Look forward to your impressions.

It disturbs me too. One of the main reasons I bought this TV and paid a lot more money was to get better dimming from FALD. Hopefully, Samsung will get it working properly. From what I've read they never got it right on the JS9500, so let's hope they get it right on our TV's.

Not sure. They may just have tweaked some settings. I'd be surprised if it we have dynamic HDR10, but you never know. I will check out some 4k blu-rays tonight and see if they look any better than before the update.

Dynamic hdr10 requires it to be graded dynamically, currently there is none. Careful of the placebo effect, its very easy to be fooled by your own eyes.

and all the meanwhile of the 1131 update the samsung webpage http://www.samsung.com/us/support/ow...UN65KS9800FXZA as of 9:15pm est still reads 1121.1. terrible that it should not coincide precisely with what is available at the unit

What is funny to me is that my TV shows the 1131 Update ready but I cannot update the TV to it. It's still says no update at the moment...lol. Anyone else have this issue?

in the support section where you can manually perform the update, prior to accessing the setting (for auto or manual) the unit displays the update it already has installed. if this is showing you 1131 then you already have the latest, so the "no update available" message you are receiving would be valid.

Question Restore Firmware Question

This is hypothetical, but if someone has actually tried this I'd be appreciative of their input.

Suppose that after a firmware update things get F'd up. The only restore option is to factory default. Hence the questions....

- Does the factory default restore to the firmware version that was in place the first time the unit was powered on?

- Suppose one wants to restore to an earlier version of the firmware and has the files from a previous download saved to disk. Will the unit "recognize" and "allow" a previous version to overwrite its currently installed and more up-to-date version?

Thanks.

You can't revert back to an older firmware, even if you did a factory reset.

When reading the reviews there isnt alot of talk about the dimming issues. Possible that it could have been introduced with a firmware update`?

IF YOU FIND THAT YOUR SOURCE ICONS HAVE SUDDENLY DISAPPEARED...

Please post a screenshot along with your TV's model number and the firmware version you're running. I've reported this glitch to the Samsung engineering team and they would like additional information which might aid them in their troubleshooting efforts.

Dimming most certainly was part of the "negatives" mentioned in professional reviews.

I reported a very similar condition within this thread a few days ago. In my case I was on version 1121 at the time. The main-menu items appeared, however, the sub-menu items that ordinarily display above them when highlighted were not visible. A gray banner appeared the width of the screen instead. I assumed - and another forum member confirmed/recommended - that removing the power cord and then reconnecting power would resolve the issue. It did. In my particular case I have the unit on a switched outlet and it is usually completely off when not in use.

People made it out to be that the dimming didnt work correctly but it might just work correctly with the amount of zone it has. People might just be expecting perfection with such a low zone count. Just install some leds behind the tv and dont watch it in complete darkness and It should be perfectly acceptable for what the tv is packing.

RESPONSE FROM SAMSUNG RE: MISSING SOURCE ICONS

As of this afternoon, the engineers were trying to replicate the issue in their lab. They requested screenshots, model and firmware version numbers, and a list of the various devices that users of the KS Series have connected to their TVs. The chief of tech support and the director of product development are also being kept informed. The fact that at least three separate firmware versions are involved, across various models from Canada, the USA, and the UK is making the issue particularly difficult to troubleshoot. They first need to replicate the issue before they can identify and work from there to find a reliable solution. They appreciate the input of AVSF members who've devised workarounds, but they feel that owners should not have to deal with this issue at all.

Top and bottom leds at times aren't correctly turning off, particularly with hdr content. Nothing to do with zone count.

Rudy1, if in fact you have a communication path with Samsung Technical, then please pass along the following issue which precludes what they are now asking the community to do. Specifically, they need to display the complete version installed and not omit the decimal, as was the case given 1121 and 1121.1. Otherwise, how can they ask for a version and expect precision accuracy? And you can tell them I said so.

Press the HOME button on the remote, then select SETTINGS/SUPPORT/CONTACT SAMSUNG. But I'll pass on your request to my imaginary friends at Samsung.
