Unless you have something different that was reported?
lets even use logic the x940c and x940d were confirmed to be true 10 bit panels.. why would they have a set that cost 2ce as much and claim its a revolutionary set and have a cheaper panel on it? lol dont be silly

It's very nicely bright without blowing out highlights. As good as the 950B is, I'm now convinced the Z9D is a better picture.

And yes, I do own it even though I haven't posted pictures.

Here are two images, but don't complain about them. They in no way can truly illustrate how beautiful the display is. And I do see the motion in the Peanuts image. That was me.

Hi Larry,
Did you ever get a chance to test the black level?

Is it perfect black? Does the TV seem to be off?

I'm assuming it's like the 940, yes? Ken, do they turn all the way off? I know the Vizio P doesn't. I thought it did until I watched in a pitch black setting and could still see clouding (although very subtle). My B6, on the other hand, practically vanishes.

What's more important is how dim the zone stays when there's something to highlight. What's significant about the Z9D as compared to the 940D is how huge (relatively speaking) its zones are against the minuscule zones (at the LED level and it's said to be in the thousands) of the Z9D.

It's no big feat for a FALD display to show zero black levels but the better ones don't do so it doesn't contrast with zones that need to be active. The key to the Sony is not absolute blacks but how close it mimics a self-emissive display. It comes down to effective contrast.

Yes. That iPhone image, while far from great, represents the colors fairly well. See, this is why I don't want to post pictures. They just can't convey the reality of the image and only seems to lead to confusion and misinterpretation.

Don't fret Larry any pictures are good pictures!!

I think what losservatore meant was the dark spots in the pink, was that in the source or is the tv having a panel uniformity issue? I would guess it's in the source.

But those pix look awesome. Would love to see some more. People love pictures. You could take pictures of the settings menus, etc and people will love it. Hell, even a picture of the empty box would get 20 "likes"

Larry, thanks again for trying it out.

As long as it matches OLED black level, I'll be happy with it.

If you have a blank screen on OLED in a pitch black room, the TV looks as if it Off.

As long as Z9D looks that way in a completely dark room, its black level matches OLED which is absolute black.

Also interested in the black performance in game mode.

The thing does have a game mode, right?

I'm also interested in the audio settings available for the optical output, whether you can specify PCM vs bitstream.

Yeah... I'll be eager to hear what the lag is in game mode, if HDR content/games can be detected in game mode, and if HDR in game mode ads to the initial lag/latency. I'm thinking this kind of info won't be available till we get some official reviews from some third party sites.

Not necessarily. The very first FALD on the market that I owned (Samsung 81F from 2007) turned off when there was nothing on the screen. But the overall black level performance was not anywhere close to what you see in the better displays of present day, or even the later plasmas.

You're correct. But I was only asking about the light leak on a blank screen.

I'm not too concerned with overall black level performance on Z9D. This TV is superior to 940D technology wise. If there is no light leak on a blank screen (as Larry confirmed) which no other Sony TVs ever reached this depth of black before, I see no reason to be concerned with its overall black level performance compared to OLED.

I'm sure the reviews will be out in a couple of weeks.

It is interesting to see what upgrades will Sony add to this TV in CES 2017.

I was looking for a larger size than 65" equal to OLED (since LG cannot provide one with a reasonable price) and I think this is it. Hopefully next year, I'll purchase a 2017 model in a larger size. 85" if Sony makes it otherwise, 75".
