Yeah, first vid was great, the 2nd one has that overcast so not much HDR showcase but the ending was brilliant as the sun breaks out.

So regarding the conditions to view DSE I would like to find out what are those? I mean do anyone have some links to some backgrounds or some infinite panning of some sky or something similar?
I tried using rtings gray background (i think 50% gray), but i don't see any visible imperfections
I do see some when watching football i.e.
But it's very faint so I can't be sure of the exact spot on the screen which is "defected"
So if somebody has experience with this (other than peppa pig test) I would be grateful if someone could post some link to test image/video which could be useful in precisely detecting DSE/band spots on the screen

Having had z9d HDR for this long I'm unwilling to go projector..... maybe i'll just scoot the couch forward when we are watching TV.

Noooooo, please scoot the couch, please don't change TV just yet, my budget couldn't stand it
I would say that on 16ft everything less than 100" would look small to you - so let's get real -> scoot the f.. couch

HOWEVER: the Nintendo Switch outputs its 5.1 signal as PCM which according to rtings no TV currently supports via ARC. So seems like I'll need to connect my Switch directly to the AVR which is a shame. I really wanted it to be connected to HDMI 2 so it can sit under the TV and use a seperate picture profile.

Unless anyone else has any ideas?

I had the same issue with PS4 PRO (on HDMI2, HDMI3 ARC to AVR). But luckilly on PS4 there is audio option for setting wich signal will be sent, so when I change it from PCM to DTS everything worked well cause this type of signal can be sent from TV via ARC to AVR.
Maybe your Nintendo has similar option?

I tryed to find out the same thing - but with no luck, so I think it cannot be done
On the same note, it would be nice if you could have an app on mobile fone that would tap in the TV android and allow you to do everything on TV but wihtout disturbing the picture on dislpay, rather outputing menus and settings on the mobile phone instead. HAve simmilar app for my Onkyo AVR, and it's great, I can setup speakers, sound modes etc with mobile phone app only, without disturbing the picture itself
I guess the stepp in this direction weas done with 7.0 having changed the menus layout on our Z9

Annoyance with my Z9D:

When I turn on the TV, the TV turns on the receiver (Denon X6300H).

I disabled everything I could find related to powering on & HDMI control short of disabling ARC completely, which I do not want to do!

You have to disable arc

It's the protocol.

What you can do is keep arc disabled in your Denon (discrete CECoff) and turn it on at will

Works great (Logitech Harmony)

I am about 12ft or so away from mine primarily because I have my couch in the sweet spot, acoustically, in my weirdly shaped room.

While a larger 65" would fit in nicely there, I'm not sure if only a 10" increase in size would make that much of a perceptual difference at the distance that I sit? Guess that I would have to try it to really know.

So I take it that at your distance of 16-18 feet you don't see an advantage to upsizing to 75"? How about a 100" Z?
I like a big TV myself, 10FT from a 80"

No option like that on the Switch. There would be a licensing fee associated with having that. Since the PS4 is also a Blu-ray player, Sony is already paying, and that probably also covers this feature.

Yeah unfortunately the Switch is the same as the Wii U where the only 5.1 output option is PCM.

One option could be to get a HDMI splitter and have one run to the AVR for audio and then another to the TV.

Too much of a hassle. I need ARC on at all times since *all* sources go to the receiver first.

Though I did notice if I want to play sound from the apps like Netflix, Ultra, etc I have to manually select "TV Sound" on the Denon now. Still much less annoying than having to switch off the unit every time I turned on the set to watch cable TV or something simple.
Thanks!

Anyone watch "American Gods" on Starz? I watched through Apple TV, and it looked spectacular. It's not 4K or HDR or anything, but it's so gorgeous anyways. The colors really pop. I have some of the "fake" HDR and WCG stuff enabled, and it really seems to work well with this show. If I didn't know any better, I would have sworn it was real HDR. Highly recommended, both for the quality of the show and the eye candy. Just make sure the kiddies aren't around.

OK, sounds like the Denon does not support Dolby Digital Plus so do this when playing Netflix:
ACTION MENU > Sound adjustments > Advanced settings > Input related > Dolby Digital Plus output > Dolby Digital

Hmmm interesting thought. Don't you think video and audio would be out of sync, though, since the AVR usually introduces a little processing lag?

Oh, it does (running it now - the Denon shows DD+)
I was just remarking if the TV went to apps mode the receiver automatically switched to the "TV sound" input which is the ARC feed. Now I have to manually choose the input when running ARC sound through the surround system, which is an extremely minor inconvenience.

But any and all suggestions and help is still appreciated.

I have only seen AVRs induce processing lag with video conversion enabled so as long as that is disabled for the input, it should be fine.

The Switch doesn't use HDCP as far as I know so a cheap splitter may do the job.

I have Amazon prime video and use the App on the TV. Every time I watch an episode I am amazed at the PQ of the Z9.

From a quick google search, Starz has started filming in 4K, so they're getting ready to start releasing in 4k, but it's not available yet with no timetable for when they'll start. Since the show is distributed internationally by Amazon, I guess everyone else can see it that way. I'm hoping it gets released on UHD Blu-ray. It's already so gorgeous at 1080p. I just can't imagine...
