I placed an order for a Sony XBR75X940D last month for my new living room / theater set up and haven't picked it up yet. I recently saw that the Sony XBR75X900E is about to be released and I'm trying to decide which model to get.
The XBR75X940D was purcahsed for 3,800 and the XBR75X900E will go on sale for 6,000.
So my question is whether the XBR75X900E is worth the extra 2,200 bucks or should I stick with the XBR75X940D. I don't mind paying for quality, especially since I put a lot into the whole system. Just wondering if the difference is going to be substantial enough to justify the cost.
I'm in the same boat - comparing/considering the 75x940D and the 75x900E.
They have very similar specs, but supposedly the 900E has higher peak luminance and better black level. But then, the 940D supports 3D, if that's important to you.
Also, the prices are actually closer together (and lower) than that (check with the vendors that sponsor this forum, such as Cleveland Plasma and Value Electronics).
I haven't decided yet. At the moment, I'm leaning towards the 900E (which will cost about $1K more than the 940D, street-price to street-price).
Florida_Gator: Do you have a lot of experience with Value Electronics? I'm wiling to buy both my TV's there, but it seems almost too good to be true. I don't want to order from a small shop in NY and get ripped off. If they are legit and at that price all I can say is THANK YOU! this project was hurting the wallet a little too much.
If those prices are accurate than I will get the the 940E at value electronics, since that is the price of the 900E I was willing to pay. I never use 3D so I don't care about that. I'm just worried buying from an unknown dealer, especially if it is that cheap. If everything checks out I'll get that I guess.
Will do AVmanic. I'll call on Monday to verify everything. I was just worried they would be like East Coast TV. I them with the same low prices, but I heard that after you buy from them the charge extra for some shipping insurance, and other charges. From what I read in the end you wind up paying the same price as others.
This place looks more on the level. Maybe this is just the very very rare case where something too good to be true actually is true.
Side note: I was doing a little research and read that Sony buys the OLED screen from LG and will be using them in the new 940E. Does anyone know if that's true. Are the 940e's OLED. If so that would be a dream come true.
VE does not charge shipping, at least they didnt with my tv i bought from them last summer. VE is right up there with best buy, as a matter of fact in some ways they are BETTER. If you live in the New York area, you can go into the store and play with the tvs and they will demo everything for you. At best buy, you arent allowed to touch the tvs or bring in your own material. Hell, Robert will likely pull up a couch to any tv you want and you guys can hang out too!
Regarding the 940E, it is an LCD tv, it is not an oled. The oled is modeled "A1" and comes in 65" and 77" (15k)
Thanks Ray. I guess VE gets my business. As for the A1 model, all you had to say was 15k. lol. Way too much for me. Heck even with VE prices the 940E is going to be hard to get, but an extra 2200 to go from a XBR75X940D to a XBR75X940E seems well worth it.
Ray and myself have been here and in PM with each over time to time and you can trust him. And we both like out for the best of others.
As I have respect for Ray as I know he does for me.
Ray I did PM you about the OLED I'm looking at this year as a 3rd TV read haha😁
No hi jack.,.
Nice AVmanic. I feel like I have a bit more room to shop around with VE. I read on forbes that the back light used on the 930d was not that great and I think they are using something similar on the 940E. So out of these choices which would you fell is the best quality. I'm trying to research this as I go, but I'm far from knowledgeable.
Thanks guys. I would love to wait until the TV's go down in price, but I gave my current 60 inch to me grandmother and figured I would pick up the 940D when my reno is done. I don't think I can go much longer without a TV. lol. I'll pick up the 940E at VE. It's at the limit of my budget, but only because VE has a good price. If not for them I would get the 900E.
I'd love to stretch to the 940E, but that's a bridge too far for me.
I'm sure it will be incredible.
I'm still on the fence between the 940D and the 900E. About $1000 difference best-quote to best-quote. I hear the 900E will have higher peak brightness and slightly better blacks, but the 940D has 3D and is $1K less... tough choice...
You can get the 940D for 2899.99 new from authorized seller you just need to look for it. I would save my money and get it myself. Then in 2 years when Sony has the 75" OLed at an affordable price time to upgrade.
ABSOLUTLY NOT. The 940D is a better set, the 900e is a step down. It may be newer with a few more perks but it is in no way worth the extra money. The 940d's are a fire sale now and a steal. Just because the set is new with new features doesn't make it better, the direct comparison is the 940e. 90% of the individuals in these threads are in the same mind set. Newer is not always better, they'll come out and have there issues as do all. Perfect example was the Samsung JS9500 replacement, the 9800. What a problem child that was. Yes it was brighter, but was it a better TV. NO... The 9500 till this day is still a better all around set. The bottom line is all these tv's are very good today and you'll always find something wrong if your looking for it (Even in a Bugatti). But comparing the 900e to the 940d is the same as comparing the 850d to it. It was Sonys Highest end TV for 2016 until the release of the Z series which is still there top in 2017.
I dunno, 75900E seems like it may actually be better - Enhanced processing features, better panel, no black smearing, higher brightness, still FALD... X900E series seems to be getting quite a bit of praise.
Well I sort of went in the other direction and got the 940e. I saw some video of the 930e and i was pretty great. I figured I spent so much time and money remodeling and setting up a nice surround sound that I might as well go for the 940e. It should keep me happy for the next 3-4 years.
Thanks for the help everyone. Next thing on my list is probably the 900e for my bedroom.
I asked about the 940D in the Owners' thread and there are mixed thoughts on streaking and ghosting in PC gaming performance but more leaning towards 'it is not noticeable'. I did find one 940D in a local authorized store at a very good price thus debating to get this or hold off for the 900E. I know the 900E will be significantly lower in the next few months as well....
If I can post prices for both let me know. But the 940D is sub 3k out the door. Thank you!
Thanks bud. I ended up going with the 940e, but after a week it had a dead pixel so I returned it for a replacement. The replacement arrived a few days ago and is ready for pick up, but I'm a bit concerned since the review online are mixed.
I'm sitting about 14 feet away from the TV and was told to go with the 75 inch, but I'm not sure if I should get the 65 inch OLED instead. I would go with the Z9, but It is on sale for 8000 not 6600. Where did you get it for $6600?
Check the VIEWING ANGLE. I have the 75x940D and it has an AWFUL viewing angle for prime picture. I walked into a Best Buy a couple of days ago and they had, what I think was the 75inch 900E on sale for 3799 and it seemed to me like when I approached the TV from the side, the picture quality has less of a dropoff from the best angles. Obviously, Magnolia is using a great feed for the TV, but that shouldn't change the dropoff in pic quality when you walk to the side.
I would not buy either set until you actually check both TVs and see if the viewing angles are good for your type of viewing.
