Bias lighting in front of LCD TV

Anyone try bias lighting in front of the TV instead of behind it?

My TV is about 3 feet from the wall, so I doubt bias lighting behind would do much since it would scatter a lot for those 3 feet. Also, I noticed that if I have light source in front of the TV, pointing toward the TV, the picture looks much better. For example, I tried putting a lamp behind the TV and it did not look so good, but with the lamp in front of the TV, it looked much better.

I think I will get some rope light at Lowes to test. I'll get 6 feet and lay it on the TV stand below the TV about 2 to 3 inches in front of the TV with light directed up toward the TV.

Anyone try? Results?

Bias Lighting is actually light behind the TV. So what you are talking about is light in front of TV instead of bias lighting.

+1. If you attach the LEDs (such as the MediaLight kit) to the back panel, even at 3' from the wall you should get some effect, especially if that's the only light on during night time viewing. Lamps (floor or table) are not the best way to attempt bias lighting.
