Quick question. I have somewhat of a unique situation. I live in Mexico, but will be popping across the boarder next week to pick up my BB version of this TV that has been sitting in a family member's shipping warehouse. I spaced out on bringing the adapter cable that would have allowed me to hook up my Surface to the TV to check it out before hauling to back across the boarder. My main concern is to check for obvious clusters of dead pixels. I guess I could live with other stuff. If I just plug the TV into a power outlet and turn it on, should I be able to notice any really bad issues of dead pixels via whatever screen pops up when you first turn it on? Any other things I could do a quick check for before I head back SoB and greatly increase the inconvenience factor of needing to return it if it has a serious defect?

Well, f you could hook I up to the internet you'd be able to load the YouTube app and search for some test patterns to help look for dead pixels. Maybe some at the warehouse has wifi hot spot on there phone you could use for a few minutes.

I think your decision boils down to your preferred viewing sources and listening environment. If you don't care about Surround sound or ATMOS then the AVR doesn't really matter.

The start splash screen is mostly red and should show up dead pixels (just not ones stuck on a red-ish color). Fald isn't enabled on the menu screens so you can't check that. Can you just download some test images/videos to a USB drive and plug that in and use the inbuilt player channel?

I have briefly tried No Mans Sky with HDR but that game has such a crazy color pallet already it was hard to tell. Hoping to snag Horizon soon.
Just came here to say that my wife and I watched Neon Demon streaming through Amazon on the weekend and it was mind blowing. There was a scene that begins totally dark and stays like that for several seconds and we legit though that the TV had turned off. We didn't even mean to watch the movie - I was just looking at random UHD movies to test the TV, but we stayed to the end just because it looked so beautiful.

thanks for sharing that. Yeah I really love this TV too

Also.....I ran an optical cable to my receiver for ARC. I also have added an Egreat A10 4k media player onto HDMI2 which also sends audio back to my Denon receiver. Well at first all I was getting was stereo, then after trying various settings I can get Dolby digital, or DTS sound. I can't seem to get True HD sound though my 7 year old AVR 1610 does support it. It seems to be a copy protecton or HDMI issue - True HD is bundled with Atmos in the settings for some reason and when I include them I get no sound.

So, I decided to get a new receiver! I found a good deal on a new Denon AVRS930H with 7.2, Atmos, Dolby Vision, upscaling etc. I'm psyched, will be arriving this week so hope to get it set up Saturday. I'll be able to plug my media player into the receiver, and hopefully the audio-return issue will be fixed. If not I suppose I could just get a standalone Roku.

Hey everyone!

Loving my P605 so far. All the posts here have been very helpful in optimizing my settings for my living room.

One thing I noticed that has been observed in prior posts, is that the Sharpness setting seems to jump all over the place. I haven't yet been able to nail down the exact circumstances, but so far:

1. When the TV switches into HDR10 mode, the Sharpness seems to jump up to something like 50+. This seems to happen regardless of whether I have it set to 0, 1 or 20 (simply as a matter of testing to see if it would make a difference.

2. Oddly, it seems to happen when I switch inputs as well, without any HDR/DV mode switch. Just tonight I flipped to my PS4 Pro, and noticed that the picture looked odd. Sure enough, even though the UI showed Sharpness at 20, it was actually much higher.

In these cases, simply changing Sharpness up or down by one, then changing back, corrects the problem. It is, however, extremely annoying to do this.

I was wondering if anyone has stumbled across a fix for this, or if waiting for a firmware update is the only option. -_-

Thanks!

This happens to mine as well. Hoping a firmware update fixes this. Can confirm it 100% happens clear as day on my PS4. Massive increase to sharpness even at "0".

As much as I love this TV, I absolutely hate that it only has 3 HDMI ports.

That is not enough.

I have an Xbox One S, A PS4 Pro and will soon have a Sony UBP-X800 4K player.

So whats the big deal? Well, I want to be able to use my current receiver (Pioneer VSX 1020K) for HD audio which doesn't support 4K, which means I can't pass the Pro, Xbox One S or my 4K player through it and get the full benefits of 4K. What would be nice is if I could just run all my 4K stuff directly to the TV and just use the HDMI ARC on the TV and run it to the receiver.

I have NO interest in audio like Dolby Atmos and/or DTS:X. I was always perfectly happy with TrueHD and DTS:MA

Nevertheless, it looks like I don't have any choice if I want nice audio.

It has been discussed multiple times in this thread.
The C807 is edge-lit and has no local dimming. It's made to look nice and thin, and focuses less on picture quality.
The P605\607 has a 72 zone FALD, and it has superior picture quality, but it's thicker and has a simpler design.

Unfortunately this TV cannot output True HD or DTS-HD MA audio to a receiver, as neither ARC nor optical can support it. But your solution of running your source directly into the receiver should work just fine (it's what I did as well).

Nice to know.

Looks like I probably pick up either the Pioneer VSX-530 or the Denon AVR-S510BT.

EDIT: The Yamaha RX-V383BL is officially a no-brainer. 4 HDCP 2.2 HDMI ports including Dolby Vision pass through for $279. Yeah, awesome.

There is a difference, the C is edge lit the P is rear lit this will have a substantial difference with local dimming. The C is more an aesthetics over PQ model.

They're both comparable. I'd go with the TCL on price alone, especially if it's just for the bedroom.

You can order the TCL 55P605 from Best Buy for $600. It's the exact same TV as the 607 except the remote doesn't have the Private Listening audio jack.

There are separate listings (even for the same shows) for 4K and HDR content, try scrolling all the way to the bottom of the listings.

Mark has been quite absent from any discussion on the P607 since it officially released, seemingly deliberately.

dark scenes have noise

I bought the 605 version a couple of weeks ago and have been pleased overall with the quality of the picture. There is a very brief bit of blur in motion/panning scenes that I can live with (for sports I've turned off the local dimming and dynamic contrast, which seems to help).

HDR is great, and I'm impressed with bright scenes when watching cable or streaming shows. But for normal 1080 shows like Game of Thrones, I get noise, sometimes banding, in some dark areas when the overall scene is also dark. The windows behind Daenerys in the opening scene of GoT this week is a prime example. It looks pretty-much the same whether through my Spectrum cable box and HDMI or streaming HBO Go over ethernet. I do not see the issue with HDR, for example Man in the High Castle.

I've tried all the settings recommended by Rtings, even the color adjustments to no avail. I also used the calibration disk from this site to do basic brightness/contrast adjustments without effect. The only way to get rid of the issue is to lower the brightness down to around 40, which is way too dark and crushes details.

Does anyone have any other ideas what I might be able to try to address this or what's causing it? Is it just life with 1080 upscaling and possibly compression?

Any feedback or ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Are you using the Roku Amazon app?

Most of the Amazon originals shows should support 4K and some HDR. 4K stuff is labeled UHD. I can't remember if HDR is labeled or not.

In terms of movies I know Cafe Society, Spectre, Ex-Machina, Machester by the Sea are a few examples.

Anybody else have a lot of dirty screen effect? I have it TERRIBLY. Both vertical and horizontal pans, so basically shows up all the time. Really wish there was a fix. I'm used to a little horizontal dse coming from a plasma but this is much worse and both directions. Pretty annoyed to say the least.

not really something you can fix. the screens just don't have great uniformity. probably part of getting manufacturing costs down to hit this price point. based on the cnet and rting reviews this set sounds like its bottom of the barrel of the sets they've reviewed in terms of gray uniformity. they basically just dismiss it as something that won't bother most viewers though.

unfortunately they are probably right about that. but i do kind of find it odd that they praise it for picture quality when i'd expect a videophile to be bothered by DSE.
