Make sure you have ARC enabled on the receiver and also that the input setting for the receiver is on auto.

TCL cancels one of the year's best TVs in 50 and 65 inches

The Chinese TV maker's P-series Roku TV earned our second-highest rating of 2017, but it'll only be available in one size: 55 inches. You're welcome, Vizio.

Got to go where the market is I guess. 55" seems to be more popular than 65" or for some unknown reason they want to focus on that size in the C line of product.

wrong
Spoiler!

The existence of the C and P series makes no sense to me. Who sells a"lifestyle" tv in this day and age? You're just making things confusing for people if the best looking TV in your lineup isn't also the best performing.

Bose's whole existence is based on "lifestyle" products. We know they're not the best performing even if they're the best looking or most stylish for some people.

Wasn't the Samsung curved TV a lifestyle thing also? They surely didn't perform better than the regular flat models, had more reflections, etc.

50" TVs seem to be the Rodney Dangerfield of TVs: they get no respect. Guess I'm glad I didn't wait for it, but the offerings at that size is pretty slim. It is either Vizio, or Sony.

In regard to Bose, its different if your entire line of products is "lifestyle". Then there is no product line confusion. Having S(smart value), P(performance), and then C(contemporary design) is just weird to me since the best performing TV is usual the most expensive one. But what do I know. Its all in the sales numbers and I don't have those.

I don't recall what Samsung was doing. Weren't they just doing curved/flat versions of basically the same TV or am I thinking LG?

What a bummer. I was holding out for the even cheaper 50" version since I returned my 55".

Now, to pay double to get the Sony brand 50" or do the financially sensible thing and just repurchase a 55". Hmmmm....

At second glance at that cnet article, I wonder if this is related to amazon not selling the current p series tv recently. The quote from TCL states that they decided to refocus from creating two more sizes of the current P Series model to starting the manufacture of their "next gen" p series model with "cutting edge" technology. Makes me wonder if they're killing the current p series altogether and upgrading features to rerelease it by years end.

Maybe I should wait a bit longer.

It's in stock on Amazon (well technically in stock on August 22nd, but you can order it from them for $649 now).

I know they say hindsight is always 20/20 BUT man how I wish I had waited and got this TV over the KS8000 I have now.
I paid more for the Samsung than I would've for this TV.... damn!

Lesson learned for the future for sure.

I wouldn't really have too much regret about that.
The TCL is a great value for what it is, but from what I've read the samsung ks8000 blows it out of the water picture quality and motion wise.

Angry

Disappointing to hear about the news about cancelling the 65" version of this TV. Looks like I'll have to look elsewhere for a budget-but-still-futureproof TV.

Guess I should post this in the Owners thread.

So I went home at lunch and watched the newly released Defenders on Netflix. First with the built in Roku app on the TCL which displayed in Dolby Vision. It was really dark and I could barely make out what was happening in some of the scenes. So then I switched over to my Roku Premiere+ which is still configured at 1080p and it looked much better. So I guess I need to change some setting for Dolby Vision and 4K on the TCL.

What config settings are people using so far when viewing 4K content? I changed my settings to the Rtings.com recommended settings last night but this isn't going to do the trick for me.

Thanks in advance.

Doing a rerelease at the end of this year seems like a very bad idea. TCL is trying to break into the mid-range US TV market, and it's already bad enough that the 55" P Series didn't actually release until June, but trying to release a revamped "higher end" model at year-end, right around all the Black Friday sales, seems like it would absolutely not help them get a stronger foothold. If they want to be more competitive then they need to have their next P Series release sometime around March or April or early May 2018. The 2017 P Series is certainly proof that they've got the tech to make a good TV and they've got the ability to go lower on pricing than any other brand, but they need to be a little smarter in the marketing side of things, I think.

I am in no way an expert on sales markets, though, this is just my casual observation.

I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with the 55P607. I got one a bout a week or two ago (BestBuy version P605) and have had 2 issues.
1) Occasionally there is a quick bright white flash that occurs. I'm not sure where it comes from because its so quick and it rarely happens, but I've seen it twice now.
2) I had some banding issues occur recently. I wasn't sure if I had never noticed it before or what but after having it off for an hour it disappeared. I got some photos of it with my phone. It was only noticeable on dark colors.

Anyone seen these issues?

I had the white flashes as well which is what made me return it. Though I've read on multiple forums for other 4k tvs that the issue happens on several manufacturers 4k sets. People have had multiple theories on how to fix it like buying a higher rated hdmi cable.

Could anyone explain, or screenshot these settings showing the numbers in each box. If so I really would appreciate it. Thanks!

I don't have the bandwidth to stream where I live, so I usually download videos from youtube and watch them that way.

Does anyone know what files can be played off the usb port? mkv?

would youtube videos downloaded and played that way also display HDR? (seems most of them are mp4, not sure what kind of HDR each is using)

thanks!

It can play mkv including HEVC/x265 encoded videos.

No idea how downloaded YouTube files would perform though.

TCL cancels one of the year's best TVs in 50 and 65 inches

The Chinese TV maker's P-series Roku TV earned our second-highest rating of 2017, but it'll only be available in one size: 55 inches. You're welcome, Vizio.
Such a shame I was waiting on the 65 for my workout room to replace my old plasma 65VT60. Since getting an LGC7 OLED in my main room I am looking HDR and wanted something decent and inexpensive for the workout room. To get a FALD 65 inch for $1000 was ideal. I guess I need to look for other options.

"USB port error"

Well, I tried updating my 55P607 to the latest firmware with a thumb drive, but it didn't see the update files. Oddly, it DID prompt me to load the Roku media player app, so I know it at least SAW the thumb drive initially.

Now I'm getting a "This USB device requires more power. Use power adapter if available." error message popping up on the screen ever 10 seconds.

There's nothing plugged into the USB port, and I'm not seeing any bent pins or anything of the like. Has anyone else seen this? I tried a full reset, but the error persists. Looks like I'll be making another trip to Best Buy to swap this one out.
