Is it possible for panels to degrade in picture quality over time?

Hey guys,

I have a Samsung UN55C8000 LED TV - which I thought had amazing picture quality since I purchased it new back in 2010. Its still pretty good but lately ive been noticing alot of color/gradient banding artifacts when playing blurays with very dark scenes. I have disabled game mode which improves it but there is still some apparent artifacts. Off angle viewing seems worse possibly as well.

Its hard to know if im just used to seeing better panels lately (especially when I have an 8000 Nit display around me) or if my tv is actually starting to show its age.

I'd think the only thing that could change about the panel over time is it's light output. As far as image quality, if you feel it has changed, I would blame your source going into it and/or firmware updates to the TV. Example: The majority of X930Ds that were under 75" experienced purple tinting with objects in motion after a firmware update Sony pushed out. See here: http://community.sony.com/t5/4K-Ultr...ht/true#M13670

They never issued a fix for it but were offering some people exchanges to X930E or X900E models according to people in the above linked topic.
