The service port appears to be the same as the service port on the 37" Version 2s (which isn't a surprise since it looks like they lifted the entire I/O circuit panel from the 37" and simply placed it in the media box). The service port is not a USB port, and was not able to be used to upgrade the firmware on the 37" (the entire panel had to be shipped back to Sceptre).

Interestingly, it appears that there IS a USB port hidden inside the case of the 37". Some digicams use the USB port, with special dongles, to route audio/video signals out of the camera - so who wants to be the first one to crack open the media box, look for a USB port on the tuner card, and plug some testing equipment in to see if it carries a SPDIF signal

If all of that lettering doesn't just peel off, then possibly some black gaff tape would fix the problem. I don't know which looks works, the horrible lettering, or a strip of matt bleck gaff tape.

I gotta have more cowbell, Baby!

Tried to order at midnight Sunday - no go.
Did order it Monday morning 5:30 EST.

Since then the media cable lost 2 feet, the bezel got totally taco-ed out with badges and the wait on line has grown to 6 weeks.

3 Days later - Does anybody have a shipping status?

Dave

No shipping status here (I ordered at around the same time you did) and it's still driving me nuts. I wish C* would post some sort of status update other than that the ship date has slipped a couple of weeks.

Hello everybody, new to this forum. I ordered my Sceptre 42" Monday morning around 2:30AM EST (I'm in Florida). Therefore, technically, it was still Sunday on the west coast where Costco is based. I received my order confirmation email at 6:20AM on Monday and the text states that I placed my order March 5, Sunday. Order status still "In Process". Will let you know when it changes. Later...

I would imagine your C***** "Order Status" will stay at "In Process" until the TV actually ships, which probably wont be for a few weeks.

I've had luck in the past removing lettering like this with a product called Goof Off, but you definitely should test it in an inconspicuous area first since it will also dissolve certain plastics.

Lets start sending them emails about the lettering.... I just did to cs@sceptre.com

They do not want a ton of returns ...... let them know you do not like it.

Apparently not! I was charged that same day and it was deducted from my checking acct. I used a debit card to make the purchase. I think it sucks that they charged and deducted the money and it still has not shipped or there is no shipping status. Only "IN PROCESS"

I recently purchased a new receiver and was debating between the Yamaha 5990 and the Pioneer 1015TX. I went with the Pioneer. Love it, but the HDMI ports would have been nice.

I just setup my Yamaha 5990 and when used with my 37" Naga it is sooo sweeet!
I have a Sony CX 995V 400 disc 1080i upconverting HDMI DVD changer that connects through HDMI to the Yamaha (2 in 1 out) and on to the 37" Naga's HDMI port. The picture is stunning! The Yamaha takes any input source and converts it to HDMI and on to the Naga. When I run the Sony's signal through the component input it shows 480p on screen and when sent through the HDMI it displays 1080i on screen. The HDMI connection looks great and paying extra for a state of the art receiver like the HTR-5990 is worth the extra money considering it forms the backbone of the whole home theater experience. Anyone buying the 42" (ordered mine Monday) should look at a quality HDMI switching receiver like the 5990 (if you can find one).
The Pioneer you mention was at the top of my list and is a bargin at around $500.00 with THX etc. but the lack of HDMI was a problem for me.

On the subject of waiting for a confirmation from the "vendor that shall not be named" I waited several days before any confirmation when I purchased the 37" last August and if you look at the early postings in the 37" thread you'll see similar comments about everyone waiting. I remember the first rash of shipping confirmations coming out on Thursday and Friday of that first week when the 37" went on sale and I'll bet it will be similar this time. The people who waited until the end of the week to order the 37" had to wait a long time before they got shipping confimation so anyone sitting on the fence on this should get with it. I got my 37" 17 days after I ordered on Wednesday (shipping confirmation on Saturday)of the first week it and those that waited until late in the week reported 28 days or more.

I just have to talk my wife into keeping the 37" for the bedroom or else it is going back to the "VTSNBN". There will be a lot of folks who will try to find issues with the 42" but I'm here to tell you that my 37" has been awsome (try playing Far Cry from a HTPC at 1080 on this screen and you'll be sold).

I ordered early Sunday morning and this is what was sent to me:

"When is my credit card charged?
Your credit card will be charged once the item has shipped."

It also states that if other items were ordered, I would be billed only when they shipped. I can post the entire message if needed.

I ordered mine the morning of 3/6 (EST), so I hope I fall in the 20 day window. If anyone is concerned about the lack of HDMI/DVI connections you can buy a HDMI/DVI switch with cables from Octava - octavainc is their website.

I really liked the Yamaha but couldn't justify the extra cost and at the time the Sceptre wasn't even on my radar. I wish now I would have coughed up the extra cash. The 1015TX is nice and does everything I want. I guess I'll be getting the HDMI switcher from monoprice.

At $1000.00 list the HTR-5990 is pretty expensive and impossible to find (everyone has it on backorder). I got mine on E-bay from an individual (still in the original box) for a lot less. (don't want to break the forum rules and discuss purchase price!). But you can't really go wrong with your Pioneer with 3 in 1 out component switching, THX Select etc. I had the Pioneer box in my basket at Best Buy and was that close to buying it. Denon is coming out with new HDMI switching receiver (I think it is the 2706) that is in the same price range. Most top end HDMI switching receivers are around $1200.00 or more list but with a good Google search you can find pretty good bargins out there if you try hard enough.

I can't wait to see F.E.A.R. trying to run at 1080p on the 42". Even thought I just built this computer about a month and a half ago, it might have trouble at that resolution (Athlon 64 x2 3800+ 2GB RAM SLIed GeForce 6600s).

I wrote Costco an email as to why I have not received a tracking number or why the status was unchaged and here is their response:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Costco.com.

Due to an overwhelming response to this item the estimated delivery time
on this is 3-6 weeks from the date of order.

Jared

And I ordered mine on 3/6/06at 5:06am EST

Heck, we already knew that. It just doesn't explain why they haven't started shipping. No biggie, really, just being impatient. But it would be nice to have an explaination. Something like, "they haven't come into the warehouse yet," or "Sceptre has delayed shipping until they've produced x amount," or something. It's the not knowing that's tough.

Just got back from Costco Home Store in Tempe, They originally had 20 setup for delivery to their warehouse, But the shipment was cancelled, to reiterate, it's going to be a Web item only according to the store manager. Oh well......

I was reassured that if I wasn't happy I can return it to the store or ship it back. They had a Mitsi 40" 1080p for almost 2k more! It looked beautiful.

Hopefully, the reason the shipment was cancelled to the home store was the overwhelming demand from the online store. Hopefully.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but even if Costco (the vendor that SHALL be named) was carrying the Sceptre at their Costco (the vendor that SHALL be named) Home locations, they are going to charge you exactly the same price as the online price including $200 shipping + handling.

If you don't believe, me, call up Costco (the vendor that SHALL be named) and ask them how much the Sceptre will be.

AWESOME! I'll be watching my order even more closely now (don't know why I do this kind of thing - it's not like it's going to get here faster just because I keep hitting "refresh" ). What time did you place the order for yours?
