Samsung will also offer two 1080p sets. The LN-S4096D and the LN-S4696D. I am not sure if the LN-S3296D is a 1080p set.
One new feature added to some of the new LCD's is Game Mode.

Last week I got a great price on line for the LN-S3251D and we set it up in the bedroom. My wife likes a lotta lights on so couldn't do much re ISFing it, she likes it overly bright. Oh well - I've got my CRT projector in the adjoining room for me.

I gotta tell you. Decorwise, this is a really good lookin' HDTV. At about 40 poinds it weights 10 pounds less than last years model. Its got a 20 degree swivel just perfect for the bedroom. I'm shocked by how nice a picture it is for a LCD panel. Standard definition looks fine on it. I have it hooked up by HDMI cable from a HD TIVO and both picture and sound work fine via HDMI that is using the TV's internal speakers, which are mounted at the bottom of the TV.

I agree, Steve. This is the best small LCD I've seen. I just bought two of them, one for the bedroom, one for the family room. Am very happy.

I am glad to hear that. I am planing to buy one of the 1080p models that are coming out later this year. I do not see why the picture quality should not be good because Samsung makes the panels for the Sony Bravia LDC,s.

What's really weird about the Samsung 32" LCD is I can put my nose right up to it and the picture is clear without visible pixel structure. Its viewable from any distance.

I agree and I was very surprised by this. I was wanting to buy a new LCD here in about a month. I had it narrowed down to the LN-S3251D and the Sharp LC-32D50U, which doesn't come out until May. After seeing the Sharp LC-45D40U in person the other day and being horribly disappointed, I'm leaning more towards the LN-S3251D. Now I just have to decide between the LN-S3251D and the LN-S3252D. I really like the pictures they have online of the LN-S3252D, but I'd really like to see the white/red vs. black in person. Nobody around here has it in stock and for some reason the LN-S3252D seems to be more expensive/harder to find online than the LN-S3252D, but here in a month that could all change.

I have the LN-S3251D - the SD picture is very impressive for an LCD it looks just as good if not better than my Sony CRT. It suffers when the picture is dark, you just can't see much at all. Also I have noticed it finds it hard keeping up with motion, and it seems to blur easily. The folks in the game section have said that it is terrible for games. The sound quality is poor, very disappointing. The sharp da5u has much better sound.
Pros - Kick Ass SD pic - good HD pic - Nice Case - good pc support cons - poor black levels, poor sound

I have the 3251D. I'm pretty new to HD so I'm still familiarizing myself with all of the settings. Would you folks mind sharing some of your settings that you think work well on this set? I'll be using the set for over the air HD, SD Directv, and gaming. Your assistance would be appreciated!

I have the LNS-3251D. I purchased the DVE calibration DVD as recommended on this forum. Maybe it was just me but its pretty confusing. I came up with a couple of settings but I am not confident enough with them to recommend them to anyone. Here they are anyway.Brightness 57
Color 41
Sharpness 20

Contrast I didn't do as the DVE mentioned what they were saying was for CRT TV's.
I have my DVD player(Xbox 360) plugged into the component so Tint is not available to be adjusted.

Luckily I like the presets on this TV so I guess I am just simple-minded and easy to please.

There is also an AVIA calibration disc available which is possibly more user friendly.

So I guess what I am saying is maybe I need a little help calibrating this TV too.
Anybody else want to share their settings?

I am wondering if anyone can give their thoughts on the following:
I am in the market for a 46" or 50". I have narrowed it down to the following 2 models:

- Sammy LN-S4692D
- Panny 50PX60U

Viewing distance will be about 18-20 ft. Aside from price, can anyone provide comments or comparison? I have searched the forum and cannot find a comparison...is there such a thread?

Thanks in advance!

How many of you are using your sets with the 360? Is the ghosting as bad as I'm hearing? Even with game mode enabled? Does the DNI still crush blacks as bad as my Samsung LNR238W? Any comments on 360 at 720p would be great!!

What is the difference between the new LN-S4692D and the Samsung LN-R469D? Is there an official press release on the new sets?

The 4692D has an S-PVA panel (like the upcoming Bravias) for better contrast and viewing angle, while the 469D has a PVA; the 4692D has the 92% NTSC Color gamut backlight (like the upcoming Bravias) while the 469D does not; you can turn off DNIE (apparently); it has 2 HDMI; it is all black; Game Mode; MP3 playback.

Its already up on Samsung's website, and TV Authority has a "Coming soon" page on it. I'm looking at the 4092D; both should be available in April sometime.

I am leaning heavily toward the S3251D now after being underwhelmed by the new Sharp LC-32D40U (and apparently it's disappearing already, to be replaced by a 32D41U *confusion*).

The Samsung is a beautiful set, met with remarkably robust GF approval. The swivel feature is perfect for the layout of the condo and the positioning of the entertainment center. The colors may not be videophile-ideal but they sure impressed these novice eyes. It's going to be hooked up to DirecTV HD and a DVD player, no gaming for us. Unless details on the replacement Sharp become available very soon--along with reasons why--I think we've found a winner in the S3251D.

Did you mean LN-S4692D? Because the 4696D to be released in August is a 1080p model.

I have not noticed any ghosting and I've mainly been playing Burnout recently which is a pretty fast game. I think the games look awesome but I had been playing on a SD Sony until I got this TV.
I've had it for a couple of weeks now and I've played lots of Xbox 360, I have OTA locals and DirectTV HD. I think it looks great and have not had any problems.
I did ALOT of reading on this forum before the purchase. I changed my mind numerous times, because somebody has found at least something wrong with every TV discussed here.
I got what looked good to me and went for it. So far so good.

BTW they also had the new 40" LCD at the same store, not sure why some people are saying April for this TV.

I got a question, when you calibrate the 51D's, you can't use game mode right? It would reset the settings to a preset i'm presuming? or does it still keep your brightness/contrast settings?

Thanks Rev,
The set looks really nice - I guess I should hold out for it if it's going to be out within weeks. Any word on the MSRP for the April models? I'm assuming they still have QAM tuners?

I can not post a link to the page because of the forum rules. All I can say is go to the electronics depot web page.Google it. In the past they always had accurate informaions on the release dates.

Some of the online stores have the LN-S40/4692D in stock. I don't know how accurate that is.

I have a question.

What set should I get? The LN-S 4692D or the LN-S4696D. I understand that the only 1080p source are the new blu-ray players and that SD looks better on a 720p set. But to be future proof a 1080p would be the better choice. Any opinions?

So very enlightening...

1080p +/- has been debated to death on the forum. There is no "right" answer. You just have to decide what suits your needs. And keep in mind that you have to sit pretty darn close to a 1080p TV, while 720p gives you more room to sit back and still enjoy the detail. Personally, I'm not interested in Blu-Ray (cause I kinda hate Sony), I watch a lot of SD-only content, and I sit 9' away. So no 1080p for me. That calculus will be different for everyone.

Where did you hear that you can turn off DNIE on the new models? I've been through the press releases and haven't seen it mentioned.

CC has the LN-S4692D listed on there web page for the MSRP of [EDIT] . That means it will be in stores in a week or two. I am surprised that they don't have the 4092D.

CC has the 4092D up as of today for MSRP [EDIT]

Doug: there was some early speculation in another thread--the DLP thread, I think--that DNIe would be defeatible in the new models. Based on others' experiences with the 5xD and 4xD LCD models, it seems that those models, at least, don't have a DNIe-Off option, so I'm not really expecting the 92 series to have it either (or the DLPs).
