Hi,

I'm new to the flat displays part of the forum so bear with me. I'm looking for a 30 to 32 inch LCD set for a bedroom. The set I keep coming up with in my searches is the VIZIO L32HDTV. Is this a quality set? Is there a better set that you can recommend to me for the money? Looking to spend less than $1,000. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I would guess the reason you had to bump it is the price, in the past year many have dropped nearly in half, a quality 32" used to be about $2500-$3K but the Quality panels are still slightly above that $1K threshold - 13 months ago I paid a low $2K for my Sharp 32" and my 23" Sony LCD was $1600 18 months ago and those are the lowest prices I could find at that time. It bugs me somewhat but I have no regrets but perhaps around the holidays will be when we see the mainstream LCD's break that $1K threshold for 32"?

Check out the Samsung LNS3251D at Amazon for seven recent customer reviews are outstanding and I saw it at CC and it was one of the best eye popping panels in the store and I believe it has a 15 degree swivel rotation stand.

Samsung 65F8000, 60D8000, 40HU6350, Panasonic 50E60 LCD's

Thanks Westa. I may have more wiggle room than 1000 so perhaps I'll have to consider bumping up my budget. I'll check out that Samsung set.

That's a good price on the Samsung. I looked at 32" LCD's in various stores for the last few weeks and the Samsung LN51 was consistently the best picture. Too bad it was well beyond my price point at the B&M stores.

For the < $1k price, I seriously considered the Polaroid, Westinghouse and Vizio.
Our choice came down to the Westinghouse or the Vizio and decided to try the Vizio at home, figuring we couldn't lose, given Costco 's return policy. Right out of the box, it worked well and after an hour spent calibrating with DVE, the Vizio looks great with DVD, HD and SD inputs. If you're going to use the set as a stand-alone TV, I think the Vizio's sound is the best of the 3.

Thanks Scrappy. Those are the main sets that seem to be mentioned at this price range. The Vizio looks like a pretty decent set for the money. The fact that we can buy it at Costco (with their return policy) is also a strong draw. I just wish they listed the set on their website b/c I only have a Sam's membership and I'm not sure that Costco sells it cheap enough to justify the additional membership fee. Sam's also has this set at a very reasonable price.

All of them are HD ready. You will need an external digital tuner. Check out my auction on Ebay for the Samsung SIR-T351 HDTV tuner. It still has 5 days left.
