Congrats on pulling the trigger rsonnens... and on a brand-new set! Looking forward to seeing pictures and reading your hands-on opinion. If you've read the thread like you said you have then you know the drill!

Yea... I really don't need the help. :-)

Sadly I won't have a 1080p source for awhile that is my next purchase...but I want to get the TV in first. I also have a MacMini (for itunes/web surfing...) which is why I needed 1x1 mapping (and why I wanted PIP for the rare time I want to look something up while watching a show.) In addition I have a GameCube (an older one that does progressive scan unlike the newer models), DVD player and VHS machine....and an older receiver for audio out.

I do really have to go...

This is awesome news! Congratulations!!

I didn't think we'd see these sets in stores until 9/24. This is a full week earlier! I can't wait to hear about your experience! Keep us informed!

And let us know if it's black or silver.

If it has to be black, I'm with you falser. But really, I'd much much prefer it to be dark silver.

one word.....WOOT !! now bring on the 46 great news and congrats on the purchase. Def take pictures as soon as you get it. glad to hear you have a Mac.

my bday is at the end of the month, so I can see a 46"incher very soon. I hope this 46v2500 lives up to our expectations.

Even price from best buy wasnt bad from what rsonnens listed. not bad at all.

great news indeed. keep us posted with pictures and settings.

you will finally put LCD1080 at peace. that boy has been waiting a LONG time for his set. hehehe. As well as put me to rest, strugling over xbr3/sammy95 and now the 2500 line.

I'll join you on that hallelujah chorus. hehe

Now on Sony Style, comments on this one, other than the price, at $6499 retail is a bit harsh.

I will but my expectation is that it will be two tone gray as the picture on the Sony site shows (and it is darker then the older Bravia 2000.)

[Sorry about not making that a link or image from the Sony site...it seems I need to make 5 posts before the forum allows adding links/images to posts!]

I also better order my hdmi cable now (there was a rec on the xbr2/3 thread). Anyone w/ any info in the md-de-pa area pm me.

My guess is that California got them first because of its proximity to Japan and that it'll take a week or so for them to ship the product to the rest of the country. Of course that assumes that they manufacture the V2500's in Asia. Not sure if that's the case.

Thanks to all on this thread who have informed me and even entertained me the last few weeks. I almost bought the 46v2500 (preordered it a month ago for slightly over three large), but decided to to with the Olevia 747i due to the first-rate Optix Realta. First impression at CEDIA by one forum member (Pete) is favorable, to say the least. I'm going to continue following this thread, as I still feel the v2500 will be a great set in its own right. Perhaps even better, who knows.

I was into the syntax a while back, now eyes are on the sharp 62U line. as well as waiting on to see what sony 2500 is like. but for sharp is really grabbing my attention. slick looking and cheaper.

lcd1080: I can wait a week... that they're entering the pipeline now is great news... along w/ that sale price which I hope holds up since it's good enough for me. The Glen Burnie MD and Springfield PA BB's had the XBR2's in first, so they may be the first for the V2500's too. In the meantime I'm going to order my hdmi-dvi cable from blue jeans or monoprice.

Off topic, but was wondering if we can get that hawaii demo... or a source for some transport stream or whatever 1080p stuff... BTW, I have an OnAir USB HDTV tuner (very nice -- they have new models and a large thread on avsforum) so can record 720p and 1080i content on my hd. I don't believe there's any ATSC tuner output from the tv, so another tuner is a must for a htpc.

Yeah I meant to say that the 40V2500 is the only 40" 1080P LCD-TV that does 1:1 and measures less than 40" wide.
40" is pushing the limit for the minimum usable size of a 1080P LCD-TV. 37" exceeds that limit IMHO.

Rick, is that an actual photograph of a US V2500? I'm hoping that it is because the bezel and base as shown appear much closer to black than to silver or grey.

no its asian, but i thought the detail was worth posting. I just think these pictures are altered by angles and quality or type of cameras

Now that's a gorgeous picture. That's about the best looking lcd I've seen (I don't like piano black). All the descriptions do say black so maybe this is closer to what we'll get. I'll have to inkjet that and put it up on my wall. But I'll be happy with dark gray too and won't be disappointed.

lcd1080: how's your pre-order coming along? Are you considering a BB if that sales price holds? I'd like to see you kick-off the official owners thread.

I think rsonnens will be kicking off the owner's thread. He mentioned that his V2500 will arrive on Monday. I haven't heard when my pre-order will ship. I'm not interested in BB with my price being less.

rick t: I agree it's the angles and light affecting the shades of color. The sonystyle pictures (for all the sets) seem a little bright (compared to what I've seen in person). Your picture provides detail for the led's in the bottom-right.

I believe Rick's photo is of the just announced KDL-40S2400 which is NOT a 1080p set. The s2400 has a display desolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. When I first saw this photo on the Sony site I thought it looked nicer than the v2500 (at least to my taste.)

Hopefully I let you know on Monday if he is right or wrong.

Yep, for me it was an 'impulse buy' I was there for another reason and everything was in allignment.

[I also noted in a previous post that I did not have any 1080p equiptment to plug in when obviously the MacMini will be driving the display at 1080p thru HDMI.]

The 1080p thru hdmi is what I'm most interested in -- it's the final green light I need (1-1 pixel mapping). There's also a Color Space setting... am curious how wide and normal change the blacks and whites.

talked to Video Only today in San Francisco. Not sure how productive my visit was, but i'll relate the details.

Things the Salesman told me:
theyd be selling at list, but i could get on preorder for a couple hundred dollars off.

the XBR3 is a 'best buy exclusive' so they wouldnt be getting any.

if i wanted to buy a TV today, i could get the JVC. it had the same panel as Sony / Samsung and is a few hundred dollars cheaper. How true / untrue is that?

( for the record, i said i wanted a silver TV, thus ruling the JVC out, and he showed me THEIR inventory pic of the v2500, and it was very much silver. even if i'm in the minority, i was very happy to see that. )

He also said that they could negotiate the price even lower and they do a rather inexpensive extended warranty ( 5 yrs / 220 bucks ).

Bottom line - Video Only should be a great place to buy the TV as long as you're not looking for good information.

Not true. The Sony V2500 and Sammy 95 both use the same Samsung 92% color gamut back light. The JVC uses a Samsung 72% color gamut backlight.

Amazon has it on their site with a new picture. You can zoom in on the picture and it's mounted on the way in a home and it definitely looks black. I was hoping for silver, but ultimately picture quality is what really matters.

on the wall, it looks black, but in the other pictures, silver. this is annoying. we'll know for sure tomorrow, right?
