Hi everyone. I recently bought this TV open box. It's a Sharp Aquos, released in '05.
The aspect ratio can be set to one of five options, quoting from the manual:
"NORMAL Displays 4:3 aspect ration TV images normally
WIDE Expand 4:3 images horizontally to fill the entire screen (16:9)
ZOOM1 Expand the image to fill the screen (16:9) with wide black bands across the top and bottom such as letterbox format movies
ZOOM2 Can be used when ZOOM1 cuts off captions or telops at the top or bottom of the screen
FULL Returns images horizontally reduced from 16:9 to 4:3 back to 16:9 so they fit the entire screen"
Testing this with a widescreen (says 16:9 on the box) DVD of Total Recall, I find that the FULL setting seems to work best. WIDE cuts off captions, as does ZOOM1 and to a lesser degree ZOOM2. NORMAL looks strange.
Does anyone know if the FULL setting is indeed the one I should use with DVD of this type?
