FYI the Micronas TruD HD chip is a total solution which performs de-interlacing (including multi-angle diagonal motion adaptive video de-interlace like Faroudja DCDi does), scaling of resolutions, and the framerate conversions. It will be interesting to see the results when a site like Secrets gets a chance to put the chip to the test.

Yes it will be interesting to see.

I think many of us are going on the assumption this Micronas chip will be used, but there has been no confirmation so far, so we have to be open to the possibility it might not be using this chip, so the responses reflect that.

Once we know for sure then the responses will reflect that also.

Sharp production capacity dwarfs anything Olevia can do - so this comparison has no history or logic to it. Olevia is getting 700K of it's panels from LG Philips being built in China in a joint venture. Sharp is expected to sell 7 million LCD TV's this year with production capacity much higher in the future. Olevia does not even make Display Search Charting.

Because ABT has that panel on preorder doesn't mean it's going to be months - they posted the D62's shortly before release and CES is around the corner.

As a reminder to those of us that knew Mike53 of Sharp USA before they made him leave here he communnicated here and in PM's to me that the D92 4ms would be produced without electronic manipulation - I would guess without the quickshoot - or perhaps Micronas - I may be wrong but I swear he confirmed the Micronas before he left us.

The five wave is in the 57" I own and the Red's really standout but not in an artificial way. I had a hard time believing they could make red better than my 45" but it's the most noticeable difference.

The contrast ratio is exciting 3K:1 and 15,000:1 Dynamic WoW placing it the league of a Ruby. Ashamed that Mike53 cannot join us to separate the rumor from reality he was extremely helpful before Sharp made him leave.

CES is around the corner and hope those West Coast members give us a great report and Tetsunwave does his photo tour again this year. His posted photo tours the past few years have been among the best I've seen posted here.

Actually Syntax-Brillian has quite a bit of manufacturing capacity. The story is that it was last minute development delays and not production delays that stopped their previous attempts at release. I think that product's chance for fame has come and gone now with the IPS panel it's based on. Some people will still buy for the Realta but with other competent solutions out there it's not such a great lure anymore.

I don't see anything about whether the 92U has Picture-in-Picture (PIP). Has anyone heard about PIP?

I know it's kind of assumed, but has anyone seen something confirming that the D92 series will accept a 1080p24 input?

doesn't the D62U do that? So I'd assume this one would too.

The only picture of the tv is the one at abtele:

Unless I missed a critical post somewhere, the D62 does not accept a 1080p24 input. So there is no guarantee that the D92 will either.

Ok, I know this is a bit off topic----and may not be the right forum. Please accept my apologies.

In case you haven't heard, Toshiba will not show its 55-inch SED technology at CES. This according to an article in DigiTimes. Toshiba had no comment.

I have it from a very reliable source that the 46" and 52" d92's will be available in EARLY January (basically will hit the distribution channels at the same time as CES). There will be a 42" d92, but it wont be available until March.

Think i'm willing to gamble a bit on this one. Shouldn't this set be comparably better than the 46XBR2? Hopefully, their processes are more mature and banding isn't the issue it was with the last iteration. Really would like to get a set before the Super Bowl.

as I am looking forward to taking the plunge into the world of HDTV in the near future!!!

Considered purchasing the 46" or 52" D62U's but, like some/many, have decided to wait and see how the D92U's stack up.

My sister purchased her 45" 1080p just before Christmas of last year. Got to watch it for the first time over Thanksgiving. WOW! Very impressive. We watched a number of sports events----NO blurring.

Anyway, looked at an article from back in Sept. that I printed about the MSRP's for the D62U's. Sure hope the D92U's follow suit. Definitely would be a Happy New Year for me!!! Though, most likely would wait till early spring, or so, to make my final decision. Of course, all of that depends on when the D92U's arrive stateside---I am just assuming they will be here soon after the 1st of the year.

You're correct in that the D62 does not accept 1080p24, but there is a good chance that the D92 does based upon the (likely) assumption that it does indeed use the Micronas chip which itself supports 1080p24 input.

LOL. Now c'mon, we want the brave to order it and give a banding report.

Also, if the 92u is going to ship in the next few weeks, I would think more retailers would be taking orders. Has anyone found a retailer besides Abt that is taking orders?

Hmm, I suppose a black TV is a black TV. I prefer Sharp's base better, square instead of oval. And the Samsung comes with a huge power button just below the logo, begging for small children to "PRESS ME!!!"

Yes, the Samsung button needs to go, really ...

wtf -

Check out the pdf at Abt, shows more detailed pic of the d92.
The bezel has some detail you cannot see in the other pic.
The bottom piece looks like speakers rather than just a deflector.
The rectangular base looks crappy, though, Samsung's oval has style.

The current Sharp line apparently has the best black levels of any non-CRT technology according to CNET. Therefore, I would assume that since these new LCDs have a higher contrast ratio they would have even better black levels.

Current Equipment:
Panasonic TC-P42G25
Logitech Z680 5.1
Xbox 360
PS3
Gaming PC (Core i7 2600, GeForce 670, 16 GB RAM)

I'm looking to buy a HDTV with excellent black levels, HDMI 1.3, crisp clear picture quality, excellent color saturation, fast response time, 1080p or 1440p would be fine.

I was judging by the Samsung deflector, which is just a very thin piece of plastic.
Could be that you are right, that this deflector is just a bulky version, not sure.
I guess it would be a bit too narrow to have any speakers worth listening to inside.
My d7u's actually have a decent set of speakers, clean audio.

Is this 8-bit 10-bit, or 12-bit?

I won't buy the sharp_lc52d92U if it's 8-bit. Might if it's 10-bit. Definitely if it's 12-bit
