after 3 days, preliminary report:

1. The "Model" you have.
Mitsubishi 46144 LCD

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.
120Hz, picture quality, color adjustments (primaries plus complements)

3. What you like best about your LCD.
picture quality, PBS "Storm on Everest" was amazing (I think it was 1080i, digital QAM)

4. What you don't like about your LCD.
only has 2 color temp presets

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.
more color temp presets

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.
keep up the good work

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.
good quality of SD and digital broadcasts freely available on standard (not HD) cable

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.
on dark screen , slightly lighter in upper left and right corners, but this is not noticeable during most programming.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.
Yes, especially if you take your time and wait for a good sale

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.
Honestly, I suspect almost all the new TVs will look great in the home. I chose Mitsubishi (and paid a little extra) because I hope the quality will extend to non-visible components and a longer life.

Note: returned it after 4 weeks. when sitting to the side washout of colors, contrast was significant (at least to me). Some colors, like dark red, suffered more. Too bad, really had a great picture when viewed from straight on.

Has anyone attempted to mount a 42" LCD HDTV above their fireplace? Is it safe, or will the soot leakage (if any) kill it? Any advice would be appreciated.

1. The "Model" you have.

Samsung LN-T5271

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

Taken back by the contrast, saw potential after calibration.

3. What you like best about your LCD.

Blacks, color accuracy

4. What you don't like about your LCD.

Before purchasing, read a lot people complaining about stutter and ghosting. Luckily, I got a good panel, and only see ghsoting once in a while on sports.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

None that I can think of.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

How much better the blacks were after calibration.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.

I guess you didn't buy an HD when plasmas hit the scene in 2000. I paid 9k for a 42" Sony . So I would give it an emphatic YES!

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.

No but I would like some opinions, which of these looks more accurate?

1. The "Model" you have.
Sony 37XBR6

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.
Best 37 inch LCD TV there is.

3. What you like best about your LCD.
Picture quality is great, viewing at wide angles is great. The sound is awesome, and the menus and features are organized and easy to use.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.
Doesn't have 120 Hz, isn't 10 bit. Sony didn't ramp up the technology on the 37 inch model as it will with the 40 inch and up models .

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.
Motionflow for 24p output which I hear is great.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.
Be consistent in the technology across all model sizes. If it's an XBR it should have the latest technology no matter the size!

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.
How great the tv design looks when people were complaining about the hole at the bottom and stuff. Once you see it in person it's a lot nicer than the old XBR designs. The picture quality was not really a surprise because it is a Sony.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.
Some features don't work as well with a cable box (like the auto wide feature). Other than that no problems so far.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.
I think that LCDs are quite cheap compared to CRTs before so yes.

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.
Despite not having 120hz, motionflow, or 10 bit panel the TV is still amazing. So I guess don't get too caught up with the specs and just enjoy it. Who knows how much difference all those things make anyways (probably not major ones) and with the money I saved I am getting a PS3 .

1. The "Model" you have.
LG 37LG50

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.
At BB the images on the LG were better than the rest of the tv's in the same shelf, and a 37" for $1100 is hard to beat.

3. What you like best about your LCD.
PQ, Colors, sharper images, No issues with ghosting, or input lag, perfect for gaming, and watching blu-ray. Good quality on the SD channels, it looks better on my LG than in my old crt which was a sony.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.
nada

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.
more buttons on the control remote, which is nothing major.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.
Keep up the good work.

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.
The easy calibration, expert calibration mode, a lot of preset profiles, AV mode which also configures the audio, the weight. Swivel stand and 178 degrees viewing angle.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.
Nothing so far

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.
Not really, although the prices seems to come down from few years ago

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.
the tv has a 5ms response time gray to gray, i do not see the issues another people has posted, like the light black or awful viewing angle, or light bleeding. Even at 1 feet from the tv, the images still look good.

Hey, lcjrodriguez, if you lower the blue gain or blue offset a little more in the first pic, it will be much closer to accurate. If you look at any picture....or real person, you'll see accurate tones are a little reddish (or pinkish), brownish. But, light greenish near the middle of the face, but not pale. Blue should always trail red and green. And green should closely trail red. Better to have a little more reddish tone than bluish, until we get more color options. No one has a bluish tint, though. So actually, I guess your second pic looks better and closer to accurate.I don't know what your firmware is, but here's my non-professional settings, as an example:
1001/1013.1
REDOFF-15
GREENOFF-14
BLUEOFF-13
REDGAIN-15
GREENGAIN-13
BLUEGAIN-10
EDIT: I just saw in the 71 thread that you had your set professionally done-I was right and you're good.

"Talk to me Goose."

Hello lake, I actually posted the first pic to see if anyone would give some opinions without bias. Which did happen, and I'm glad. The first pic is a plasma pic which I borrowed from someone here on the avs forum anonymously. The person is a diehard plasma person, which argues that lcd cannot replicate the intended image (what the producers wanted us to see).

I can only assume that his set is calibrated, seeing as this person pretty well versed when it comes to video displays, although I too noticed some flaws with his setting. My lcd has been calibrated, and my camera crushes my blacks and oversaturates my images.

On an end note, thank you for the compliment. I was just trying to prove a minute point, that lcd's recreate extremely accurate images, in most cases, more so than most plasmas. Only set that imo is superior, is the Elite.

1. The "Model" you have.

Samsung LN40A330

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

Price and size

3. What you like best about your LCD.

HD, previous TV was a 27" CRT SD

4. What you don't like about your LCD.

Not quite as sharp as a plasma or higher priced LCD would be.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

More tweaking options for the picture. More inputs

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

none, everything about the LCD is great.

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

Weight

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

Not really an issue just a feature I don't like. The A/V input shares its connections with one of the Component inputs.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.

Yes, LCDs are very affordable now.

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.

I've had it for about a month and have no real complaints. It looks great even with sun glare coming in through the window.

Just got a new LCD Flat Panel? Post it here ONLY. Please do not post projection models.

Tell me the following:

1. The "Model" you have.

42LG30

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

Price and Picture quality

3. What you like best about your LCD.

Stunning picture

4. What you don't like about your LCD.

Learning curve to calibration

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

Nothing more than it has.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

Nothing, it's perfect

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

How light the TV was.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

None, though I don't quite understand how to get the best looking picture.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.

The 1080ps have made the 720ps much more affordable

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.

I love it

Intended use: Primetime evening shows-OTA, Live OTA HD sports, HDMI HD recordings, DVD movies via component. Environment: dark room or medium light. No Games, No PC connections, No satellite, No cable.

1. The "Model" you have.

2008 Samsung LN32A550

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

Wanted a premium quality 32 set for bedroom - Hint this is not it!

3. What you like best about your LCD.

Not much - the remote is excellent.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.

Lowest Picture Quality of any HD set made - was amazed they made it this bad. TV for ONE. Zero viewing angle, Extreme motion blur and smear. Makes you sea sick trying to watch it.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

Quality Picture and it should at such a high price.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

Bet Samsung takes this one off the market fast.

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

Low quality picture; sound was only fair; sometimes the plastic cabinet would buzz and rattle.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

HDMI ports would not stay set on just scan; each time you changed source you had to readjust the picture up two notches to remove the white line at the top. Bad QA.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.

This TV might have passed for a $200 set - but at $900-$1050 forget it.

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.

The constant motion blur and smearing with jerking picture would make you sea sick; that combine with the fact you had to sit dead center to get an almost acceptable picture is absurd. Just moving 5 degrees to either side, it was not watchable.

I am currently looking at the Sony 32XBR6 - It has the best sound of any 32 out there. Also, looking at the Panasonic 32LZ800 - It has the best picture of any 32.

At $1,000 you would think someone would make a good 32 with both sound and picture.

Sort of crazy when you stop and think about. It is easy to find a high quality 1080p 42 Plasma (within $100) that simple blows away these 32 LCD's. It cannot be that hard to make a good 32 LCD (or anything else?) that has a good picture and sound?

1. The "Model" you have.

Sony 52W4100

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

It came down to the Samsung and the Sony. I went with the Sony only because the reflections in the Samy were very noticeable.

3. What you like best about your LCD.

The size. The size is the most important variable. I didn't realize how much difference it would make. We feel apart of the program.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.

Only the price. Sony is the best, IMO, but you pay.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

One feature I really liked about the Samsung was their built in A-B swith that allows the viewer to switch between ASTC and cable programs. I wish the Sony had that feature most of all. As it is I will have to add an IR remote AB switch (likely a Radio Shack). It will cost me an additional $50 and be a hassel to install into my setup.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

Provide an complementary HD DVR for sale for your customers in America, just like you do for every other nation on the planet. Stand up to the US lobbyists that represent the interests of the media providers and give the public what it wants. Do it and Sony will be forever endeared in the hearts of the American public.

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

The fact that even at 52" size, the HDTV experience was not at it's limit. I have no idea how large a screen you could buy before the resolution becomes pixelated or diluted but it sure isn't at 52".

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

I just got it. Let's hope nothing goes wrong.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.

I will answer no, because I know all to well that in a few years the prices will be about half of what I paid. ($2700 thru a local Sony Style franchise). But be aware that I am very happy with the set.

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.

Go big - as big as you can. Big is the most rewarding variable. Not resolution, not clarity, not contrast ratio, not brightness, not off angle viewing angle - SIZE MATTERS. The difference is dramatic.

This set is just amazing, great price, easy to hookup awesome PQ in both HD and SD, Audio is a little lacking, but you do get used to it, but some form of external speakers or surround sound is your best bet unless using it for a bedroom set, but outside of that I highly recommend this to anyone in the market for a budget TV, this set is great.
