1. The "Model" you have.

Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-L32S1 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

Amazon Gold Box special.

3. What you like best about your LCD.

Good price for (hopefully) good picture quality.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.

I've read the sound is less than ideal. Might need to add a (gasp) sound bar/sub

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

Netflix streaming

I've got an old 21" CRT in my garage in front of my treadmill. Was going to get a replacement sooner or later, and limited to 32" based on space. Was going to wait for the 32" Netflix-steaming boxes to come down a bit in price, but figured the Amazon Gold Box deal was good and I can always add a Netflix-streaming blue ray player for under $200.

60Hz shouldn't be a problem. Any "judder" will not be worse than the judder of my eyes since I only use this tv while running/jogging.

1. The "Model" you have.

Sony KDL-55EX501

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

Size, warranty and price.

3. What you like best about your LCD.

Just got it, but like picture and swivel stand.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.

Trying to set it up for best picture-many settings like other LCD's.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

Has most of the features I needed.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

None yet-seems to be a good LCD.

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

Easy to set up.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

None yet other than trying to get settings/calibration done.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.

This was a good deal through Costco-cannot complain.

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.

This model came with 3 year warranty which I consider very good. Much better start with this than the 55V5100 I had to return because of sound issues. I will be interested in others comments about the new line of Sony's, especially the EX series. Seems to be priced right even though it is old technology. Good deal for those of us on a budget.

1. The "Model" you have.

Samsung UA32B6000 Edge-LED LCD

Quote:
2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

After playing X360 and watching Blu-rip on my CRT for a very long time, I realized that I should enjoy my life more. Decided to buy 32B550 because its good review, but the local store had the both model. After comparing head to head (and tweaking some settings), I must admit that I prefer 32B6000 to 32B550. Just personal preferences, not professional judgment.

Quote:
3. What you like best about your LCD.

A lot better than my CRT, in a lot aspect

Quote:
4. What you don't like about your LCD.

Hmm, none so far...

Quote:
5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

None. Actually I don't even use a lot of available features on my LED, I'm already happy with standard calibrated appearance.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

None.

Quote:
7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

Playing X360 is a LOT better than I expected. Perhaps because I played on CRT before.

Quote:
8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

None so far. The notorious auto dimming feature actually doesn't bother me, but I "magically" (and incidentally) turned it off without disabling CE DIMMING on Service Menu like others did. Dunno whether I'm happier or not.

Actually no. It could be lower.

Dear All:

I just bought a 32" panasonic viera for $350 from newegg that i bought for my bedroom and had barely used it for days, and i like how beautiful the image is with the HDMI feeding it.

the problem is that i think that now, with the stunning hd picture in my bedroom, i think the 32" size is too small! (my living room has a Sony SXRD LCD rear projection 60") i'd rather try to sell it quickly to a friend now rather than later on.

i think 40" is sufficient but 46" would be even nicer, though a bit overwhelming for a bedroom.

there appears to be 2 "top contenders" in the 46" area:

(1) Samsung LN46B550

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889102260

(2) Sony KDL-46EX500 (thought i don't know the difference between the EX400 version versus the EX500 version):

http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=103007

They are both priced around $950 to $1,000 range.

Of course, there remains the issue of whether or not the 50-ft run of HDMI would transmit 1080 or not, which i cannot test without one of these 1080 LCD's. (i use a 50 foot run of HDMI to connect my cable box to the Panasonic currently)

May I ask for advice on a substantial size increase option from my current, brand new 32" Panasonic? I'd like it bigger, and that maybe going just to 40" might not be sufficient.

Specific models would be most appreciated as there are so many out there to choose from.

Many thanks in advance!

1. The "Model" you have.
Samsung LN-52B750 (SS02 Panel)

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.
Great reviews and overall positive owner feedback plus it has

a lot of features I want.

3. What you like best about your LCD.
Good amount of setting options to play with, online updates, and the PQ looks great to my eyes.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.
The controller, it seems unresponsive sometimes and the online menu is kind of laggy.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.
Kuro Blacks?

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

N/A

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.
I'm surprised it has a "tie in" in the rear to hide your wires.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.
So far, only ONE dead pixel and the response time of the controller

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.
I think if you are patient, it is. There is no need to purchase a new set and pay almost 40-50% more when you can wait 5-6 months for a price drop.

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.
I was not planning to purchase a LCD but after all the trouble I had

with my Panasonic Plasma purchase, I'm pretty happy with this set and have no regrets making the switch.

1. The "Model" you have.
Samsung UN46B8000

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.
Wasn't in the market for a new TV but late last Autumn I was passing thru the AV section of a local dept store and the picture quality of the Samsung 6000 series was absolutely unlike anything I'd ever seen. Price was too high and I wasn't in the market for new TV but couldn't stop thinking about that picture quality. I kept toying with the idea and did lots of research for the next couple of months. Finally Amazon had a better price (along with no tax & free shipping) on what I thought was a better model (8000 series) for my needs/wants (yeah, "need" is rather over-rated when you get to this level) so I pulled the trigger.

3. What you like best about your LCD.
The picture quality is unreal. I'm not new to HDTV but still I think this picture is amazing! The backlit LED technology gives such consistency across the entire screen.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.
Some of the Widget set ups are a bit more difficult trying to use a scroll-wheel for "typing"... but that's minor. Can't find anything we don't really love about this LCD.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.
This LCD has so many features, I can't think of anything for a "wish list"

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.
With so many Widgets that involve searching, some kind of actual typing device would be great.

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.
The base is so much heavier than the LCD itself

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.
None (and crossing fingers it stays that way)

9. Do you really think that today's "Prices" are worth it.
Cutting / bleeding edge technology always costs more. Sure, you can buy something less expensive with less features and there's nothing wrong with that if it's your choice. I happen to appreciate high technology and am willing to pay more for what I feel is better quality. Sure, a Yugo and a Ferrari will both get you there... which one you choose is entirely up to you

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.
If you decide to go with the Samsung 8000 series, do your research and read as much as you can about the Sharp vs. Samsung lawsuit and the reasons behind why this model is no longer offered by Samsung in the US.

1. The "Model" you have.

Samsung LN-40B550

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

Price, high contrast ration, 1080p.

3. What you like best about your LCD.

Sexy gloss front and superb picture quality.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.

It runs kinda hot, and the menu has no "disappear timer"

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

I wish the menu would disappear without having to hit a button.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

Kepp it up! Samsung makes the best!

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

I know its odd but I was surprised at how light it was.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

None whatsoever

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.

For the top end models, no.

Decent reviews, looked good when I fooled around /w it in the showroom, price

3. What you like best about your LCD.
Tons of settings, PQ looks very good to me, ultra-thin and low-energy

4. What you don't like about your LCD.
I expect some issues /w PQ when watching in the dark

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.
blacker blacks (always), learning/universal remote

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.
none

Was intending to buy a Plasma (most likely a Panasonic) but this model won me over while I was fiddling with settings in the showroom. I'm sure I would've been happy either way.

1. The "Model" you have.

Samsung UN55B8500

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

Deep blacks, correct handling of 24fps content, beautiful and bright picture, form-factor, and the US-Appliances discount...

3. What you like best about your LCD.

Watching Blu-Rays.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.

Off angle viewing, ghosting on black screen w/ white text.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

Greater than 55" screen size.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

Make em bigger please. Have a button to turn AMP On/Off.

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

Just how good the blacks are. The bars bleed right into the bezel.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

none yet...fingers crossed.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.

It was a little on the high-end of what I wanted to spend but still in my budget. I think it's worth it if you are highly critical of your A/V equipment.

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.

Was intending on buying the V10 but found myself always drifting toward the LED's when shopping (brightness, deep blacks, color-pop, form-factor etc.). I've always been sensitive to "soap-opera" effect and the fact that you can turn off that feature made it a no-brainer for me.

1. The "Model" you have.

Sony KDL-40ve5, 40" model

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.

Sony reputation and clear bright display in comparison to Vizio next door.

3. What you like best about your LCD.

Great picture and fits perfectly in my entertainment center

4. What you don't like about your LCD.

Picture was dark initially, had to disable light sensor and dynamic contrast.

3 HDMI inputs and composite inputs on side of set.

Brightness control and Backlight almost max'd out.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

additional digital inputs, either optical or digital

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

Improve the Brightness and Backlight range

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

No significant surprises. Set performance matched reviews.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

Audio conflicts with Comcast Scientific STB. Audio only with HDMI audio

selected.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.

Unit is overpriced as all Sony products generally are. Purchased at Costco

at discounted price.

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged

Picture quality was terrible initially. Backlight, Contrast and Brightnes were almost

maxed out. Turned off light sensor and Dynamic contrast which helped significantly

Reduced Backlight to 8 and Brightness to 85. I used my 2 yr old Olevia 32" /720 set

and my 3 yr old Phillips 42"/1080p as a standard. Picture is not pretty close.

Just bought Toshiba 46xv645u yesterday. Have it temporarily hooked up using an S-video cable (I know its lame, but it replaces my old CRT Sony and that was the highest connection it offered) and believe it or not the SD DVD pic still looked decent.

Now am off to shopping for a BD player, upgrading my satellite receiver, setting up a media player (WD TV Live) and ordering a bunch of HDMI cables from Monoprice.

Got to rewire the PJ (4805) also with HDMI cables now.

Any tips for calibration or some sort of initial testing to rule out any obvious defects...i.e dead pixels, banding, clouding etc.

Thanks

You could kill 2 birds with one stone by purchasing an Insignia NS-BRDVD3.

The USB input supports powered external Hard Drives/flash drives, and many file types.

It might negate the need for a WDTV Live.

10. Any additional information that you want to add is encouraged.
A friend of mine recently bought his Daughter-in-Law a Condo in VA. Beach and in the little storage closet under the stairs were 2 Christie FP40 40" LCD monitors (along with some really nice DJ equipment). In exchange for the deal we give him on IT services for his company he let me pick a couple items out of all the DJ equipment they had found left behind in the hosue. I asked if I could have the Christie monitors since I knew they were suppose to be really high quality Displays. I'm using one for a gaming PC and ther other I havent decided yet.

I1. The "Model" you have.
Christie FP40 LCD monitor

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular model.
It was given to me

3. What you like best about your LCD.
The pixel pitch (.65mm is awesome on a 40" monitor)

4. What you don't like about your LCD.
No Stand(wall mount only)/Thickness 2.8"/Weight 80lbs.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.
Stand/Base || Higher resolutions up to 1920x1080

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.
N/A - Christie Discontinued their FP LCD line. (Even if they did start making Large Format FP displays again I doubt I could afford what Christie would charge for them)

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.
a.)I was Surpised the overall condition and the picture quality, they seem to have barely been used.
b.)How well they work as a PC display, text clarity is amazing.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.
Nvidia control panel seems to respons a bit slower my other monitor when making changes.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.
Maybe for a 40" commercial grade LCD display in 2006/2007. But you can get much better today for 10% of what these retailed for.

Here is a pic of the one I have hooked up, sorry for the quality I used my

webcam and had to set it on my desk to keep it still. I was trying to get close enough to show how good the text is.

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your LCD had.

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacturer" about your LCD.

Smaller bezel, easier mounting of stand-that was a pain in the tush

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

Thanks for that tip. I need to checkup on that. I doubt though that the Insignia would offer the kind of format flexibility that WDTv Live offers in terms of the video files it can play. It also could not decode DTS-HD MA, I believe which may be relevant in the future as I upgrade my receiver.

I have narrowed down Sony BDP-N460 as my BD player as it is very highly rated, has full audio support and also offers netflix and Youtube streaming.

Do you know if Insignia will play ISO, VOB and MKV files from an External Hard drive? I need look up if there is a thread on this.

I think for once, I am trying to do this right instead of being cheap as once setup I don't mess with my equipment at least for a few years, so longevity is important, although it is a relative terms in today's environment where things are obsolete within an year.

Yes. (if it's a powered HDD)

The only thing the Insignia won't do that WDTV Live does, is erase and transfer files from one drive to the other, or have wireless capability.

If you're really interested, I would buy the Insignia plus the WDTV Live, and then return the device you don't need. That's what I did, and opted to keep the Insignia. (BB doesn't charge a restocking fee on these items)

The Insignia does have a crappy remote though, but I use a universal learning remote, so it doesn't matter.

Picked up a UN55B6000 at Best Buy today, open box, for $1799. Apparently it was returned, open box, but the TV was never actually removed from the box.

I am absolutely blown away by the picture quality. I already have a 40" LG 1080p LCD in the bedroom but this is a whole other league it seems...I was literally at a loss of words when I turned it on. I love it.

That's good to know that Insignia can play those file formats. I do however, want the capability to add/erase content on the HDD once it is connected to the WD. May be I should get both and try them out as you mentioned.

Thanks
