I think after reading all the negative reviews on the 37 inch sceptre I am going to spend an extra $300 to $400 on a name brand LCD. I was at Costco and saw a 32 inch Visio for $900 (I think) but the picture was just OK. However, the 37 inch Vizio looked better than the 32 for some reason.

They also had a 32 Toshiba and a 32 inch Sharp for about $1000. But, I went to another local store and saw a 32 LG with a great picture and a contrast ratio of 1600:1 and a cash price for alittle less and it had a lot more features.

I think I will de alittle more research on these 3 LCD's and go with a name brand, but leaning towards the LG.

One thought, the more research I do, the more confused I get. I will eventually just go out any buy something!

I've been all over the place - and feel the same as you do. Actually, you might want to check out the Panasonic xxxxx60 or xxxxx600. You can get a great deal on the 60 this week at BJ's with the coupons they give out at the door. Giving it serious consideration - I might actually (finally) pull the trigger.

Good Luck!

I saw the Pani 32 LCD on the CC website and the stats looked greeat with a 3000:1 contrast. I was hoping to see the picture in person, but they didn't have one on display.

Bottom line, all LCD's have some kinda problem and you get what you pay for. I will just have to go with reveiws and stats in mind, but go by gut feeling.

Thanks! Happy hunting.

Hey Esexx,

I couldn't agree more. Before you pull the trigger - you might want to check out the Panasonic thread:

Well, Monday I made the rounds to a different Cosco, Best Buy and Circuit City. I really want to buy the TV from Cosco because of the return policy.

BB had a really nice display of most of their 32's side by side. (actually 3 rows of 3). The LG's picture looked alittle washed out when compaired to the Sony, Sharp, Pioneer, and a few others, but it was still good for the price.

I went back to Costco and was really impressed with the Sharp Aquios LC40C32U for 1K. I am doing research right now and the stats look pretty impressive! It has a contrast ratio of 1200:1 and a response time of 6msec. but the brightness is only 450 cd/m2. The picture looked pretty good to me and it was on display under the bright Costco warehouse lights.

They had the 32 Panisonic, but the picture was really yellow. The TV was too high and there were TV boxes infront of it so I couldnt play with the settings.

I am seriously leaning towards the Sharp. Now I will go back to another local store to see how much they might be able to wheel and deal for the same TV or maybe the LG if the price was right. (they give a good cash price discount on top of their low prices)

1. 450 is plenty bright. You want a TV, not a torch.

2. You can't tell the quality of the set by the displays at the stores. Who knows how they were setup and how they've been screwed with since. Also, the quality of the feed may vary from set to set .... depending on how the signal is distributed. Some sets may be S-Video, others component, etc. Remember, the store employees aren't video experts.

3. I have both a Sceptre and a Vizio and they are both fine sets once calibrated. The biggest problem with these sets is the set to set variation in build quality. If you get a good one you're OK, it not you lug it back to Costco.

Thanks for the info RBYERS. In Costco the 37 Vizio picture looked better than the 32 Vizio. I have been following the threads on the 37 Vizio and the 37 Spectre.

There were too many people that got delivered a Specre dead on arrival and a friend has the same one and he said the picture was OK. Then that made me lean towards the Vizio. I saw the 37 in person and the picture looked good to me. I saw the 32 Vizio in person and the picture looked pretty bad. I know it probably was set wrong by someone in the store who didnt know too much about it.

The threads on the Vizio seemed like too much work. I only want to have to do a few minor setting and be done with it. The Vizio seemed like it would be too much. Thank goodness for owners here on this site who post their settings.

CARIE927...Personally I would stay away from the Spectre 32 and go for the Vizio 32 inch. But, the Vizio contrast ratio in only 800:1 when compaired to the Spectre which is at something like 1200:1.

Spectre has a better contrast ratio by far, but if you look at the threads for the 37 inch Spectre Komodo, there seems to be too many problems with the Komodo models. Id rather spend the extra $100 and buy the Vizio.

I, on the other hand, am going the spend $400 more and most likely get the Sharp Aquos.

Good luck...I got to the point in doing too much research and got totally confused. I think I am on the right track again.

Well it seems like Sceptre 32"[EDIT] but since no one has it yet, its hard to find any reviews. I am considering to buy it from Costco and later return it if not satisfied with the quality/controls.

Is it ONLY available online?
If we order online do we have to pay tax? since shipping is included in quoted price.

I am also REALLY interested in what you all have to say about this set.

I have the 42" Sceptre and am writing this on it now. I have a 1920 x 1200 resolution. It's sweet. I even set it to 1360 x 768 and it was good to work on. It's not too much worse a resolution than some cheaper LCD Monitors.

I am building a PC for a family member who needs a LCD Monitor and a Newer TV. I figure instead of getting a 19" Monitor for $xxx.00, she could put it towards this and save some $$$ and space in her room.

I look forward to the feedback.

I just bought this TV on Costco's web site today. I'm looking forward to getting it and comparing it to the PQ on my 50" plasma. Interestingly, Costco's site said this set would be available for order on November 20. But it's available now.

By the way, can we change the title to make this the official review site for this model?

[EDIT], I'm not expecting the greatest miracle of technology, but I feel it's time to dip my foot into HDTV. I was just about to click on the "Complete Purchase" on the order page when I thought I'd go to Costco to check it out. They didn't have any Sceptre models on display. It must be an online-only deal unless you luck out at a particular Costco. It's funny that the only reason I know about the Sceptre brand was from watching Earth:Final Conflict where all the computer monitors on that show were Sceptre models. I want to hold off ordering it until Sunday or Monday, so it won't arrive while I'm home up north for Thanksgiving.
Since many of you already own an LCD TV, I have a question to pose. Since this TV has a CQAM tuner will it receive any channels beyond what you would normally pick up with an NTSC tuner? I have TimeWarner digital with a box for my 32" SDTV. Does anyone know whether any or all of the digital channels are encrypted? TW offers the CableCard for TV's that can use it, but I wonder if I'll get anything else other than what a SDTV would get sans cable box. This is not a deal-breaker since this Sceptre will be replacing a 27" in my bedroom. Your thoughts would be appreciated!

I have one on the way too. Ordered 11/16, shipped on 11/17, but not due to arrive until 11/27. It has to go cross country, which usually takes a week. However, UPS Ground is closed for Thanksgiving and the Friday after, so that's two lost days.

Emissary52,

I have the 42" with the NTSC/ATSC/QAM Tuner and Comcast Basic Cable. I scanned and get ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, FOX and a few more unencrypted HD channels that come in great although sometimes I notice some macroblocking. I'd expect this to do the same if your cable providor sends some channels unencrypted.

Costco is realy weird.
They've also announced the release time for PS3 at "approximately" 8:00 am PST.
It went live around 7:35 am, leaving thousands of loyal Costco members totally pissed.

Just a Thought...

I know the moderators do not want us to talk about prices of TV's here, but I think price is very important as a whole when considering purchasing a TV.

As a consumer, I want to compare picture quality, response time, contrast ratio, HDMI inputs, lamp life, brightness, pixel rez, video system (ATSC/Qam/NTSC), etc and cost per unit as a whole when considering purchasing a TV.

Just my opinion respectfully posted.
