I left my LCD on for approximately 12 hours with a black screen. Now the screen has no color, will it come back or is the tv trashed?

I would certainly hope it would take more than leaving the TV on with a black screen one time ! The reason I say this is, at least twice, in the two months I have owned my LCD, I have accidentaly turned off the cable tuner box, instead of the panel.... but of course this turns the screen almost pure black, as if its off (least wise with my JVC..... some lesser LCD's might still be a light enough grey to notice it was still on ;-)

Seriously though, can anyone confirm that kcroyaljosh's problem is more than just a weird fluke ? Could I accidentaly leave my panel on with a black screen just once more, and end up with no color also ?

A bit concerned,
Fish

this is absolutely a fluke. likely the backlight is malfunctioning.

I should explain this a little better, the screen has color but the color is not very good. The tv color just looks vry bad.

another important question, what input source are you using? HDMI, component, S-Video?

Could just be a cable problem, a bad chroma pin on an S-Video cable for instance. A backlight malfunction is possible, but that would really just make the display dimmer, or unevenly lit.

LCDs do not burn in like plasma panels do. There's no reason why doing what you did would cause any kind of damage.

I think you could leave it on for like a year with no problems. Or you could leave a steady white screen image on it for a year with no problems. Or a picture of the Mona Lisa...The technology just works that way.

You must have turned down the color settings somewhere or somehow on something.

It has the same color problems with all the inputs. Also I have messed with all of the color settings and it still looks bad. It looks like a tv that has lost its color. The tv reminds me of a tv that you see as a display model and has been on for a while and the color is gone. The red stinks, the blue is bad(through the componet) and the HDMI looks like there is no color.

unplug the tv from the wall and plug it back in, try again. can also try a factory reset in the menu's. if it's still messed up take it back.
