Anyone using this machine with WinXP as a second monitor? Which driver are you using? The generic monitor driver doesn't work with my laptop (Dell D630 with Intel GM965 graphics driver 6.14.0010.5076).

All but the most powerful recent laptop IGP's might have a hard time handling it. And I would recommend using a card or laptop that has HDMI or DVI to HDMI adapter that is sound capable like a 5800 series ATI card if your playing games or Blu Ray and you want to use the Home Theater sound. The only onboard graphics I've used is the 680G chipset, It's one of the most powerful IGP's there out there. You can use both screens at the same time. Any reasonably powerful discrete card from ATI or Nvidia will be fine but for multi-screen setups I like Nvidia graphics cards. You can have separate desktop wallpapers at native resolutions and run demanding programs at the same time (Like Blu ray on the 747 and surfing on the desktop).

Thanks Thud2. I occasionally use the 747i as a monitor for my laptop and don't really need the sound. I'm surprised there isn't a generic monitor driver for XP with 1920x1080 support.

Last time I posted pictures for the 747i the Beijing Olympics were on (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...3#post14444393). Well, it's 2010 and there's this little thing going on in Vancouver. So, with the help of the 747i' still-boss PIP technology, an SA-8500 HD-DVR (Time Warner Cable) and WNBC-DT here's a mix of OTA, DVR, high-def cable and other stuff:

PIP SHOTS w/ZOOM-IN TO CLOSE-UP'S (mosquito noise courtesy of bit-starving NBC station and the glass between the screen and the camera):

BANDING - couldn't get the banding to show up in any Olympic picture; on this greyish wall of a "Law & Order" set it's clearly visible though. They look like werewolf claw marks, don't they? The line near Ben Stone's face is the set's wall; can you see faint banding on the right of the screen where the 'F' of 'Freeze' starts?

MORE OLYMPIC PIP (and yes, there's too much Goren in the first couple of pics; so sue me, I'm also a "Law & Order" whore):

BUNCH OF RANDOM SHOTS (because I took so many and I don't want to let them go to waste):

That's it gang. See you in London 2012 if the 747i is still working then.

Beautiful shots! I am enjoying my first HD Olympics and WOW is all I can say/yell. Very different perspective than what you get from a 27" SDTV. Me like very much

I also went from a 27" CRT set (which I still have for old videogames, B&W SD movies on cable and VHS stuff) to 47" widescreen and it's da bomb.

Gotta love those screenshots, I don't know how you do it.

I noticed while watching Olympic hockey they seem to have a really good feed. Looked great! Look at how little motion blur there is in those shots.

An HD-DVR (so I can fast-forward/rewind to cue a really cool shot in one window), patience while the non-freezable PIP window shows random stuff (waiting for the 'cool' shot to come on) and taking lots and lots of pics. Those 29 pics came from over 100 shots that I looked at carefully before choosing the one's above. Tuesday I was watching both Curling (CNBC-HD) and Biathlon (NBC-HD) and I wish I had a camera then to snap some pretty cool pics of the curling target as PIP along with the shooting segments of the Biathlon. Such an explosion of pretty camera angles and primary colors.

Ice-sweeping motions of curling too much for any TV to handle (even a Realta-fortified 747i)!

Boy that was a lame way to end the coverage of the Olympics, just cut away in the middle of the ceremony. And just to go to a dumb new reality show. NBC screwed the pooch again. Hey, were out, coverage is over, Bye! No wrap up, just shut down halfway through the ceremony to open Seinfelds new "Marriage Ref". NBC doesn't deserve to broadcast the Olympics if they don't respect it.

I also just noticed in the background of the curling photo, does anyone know what exactly a "SPARKASSE" is?

It went unnoticed by most of us but last Thursday marked the third anniversary of this thread's existence. Damn, has it really been three years? Time flies when you watch quality high-def (and Realta-enhanced standard definition).

In totally unrelated news, I bought a new HDTV... ...but it's not what you're thinking! I ain't bailing on my 747i but it's a cute story you guys will appreciate: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...9#post18289999.

Yep, mines still goin strong too. I just moved to a larger house and the 747 made the trip with me. I'll post pics of it in its new home soon. I'm thinking of getting an Epson Pro Home Cinema Pro 8100 and putting a automatic screen in that falls in front of the 747 and the speakers for movie watching.

I can't believe I've had this set for as long as I have and I just noticed "PC Mode" in the Picture settings. I've been using it with my PC since day one, I just set the PC resolution to 1920x1080 and used "1 to 1" aspect ratio. What does "PC Mode" do?

^^^ Theoretically the same thing 'Game Mode' does: disable the processing that involves TV signals (like de-interlacers for analog stuff) and concentrate on either properly-encoded-for-PC analog (VGA) or digital (HDMI) PC signals.

Not directly related to your PC question, but check out the workout I gave my sister's week-old Toshiba 55" 1080p LCD (with tons of pictures, including testing the Tosh's PC resoluton/connectivity with my laptop): http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...137494&page=42

DAMN! I've seen you put a ton of work into delving into all the details of the 747i in this thread but you are really showing your attention to detail and thorough research in that thread. Personally I think it rivals professional publication reviews I've seen (who knows, maybe you are a professional reviewer for all I know). I know we've all benefited from your attention to detail here in this thread, Thanks for all the work!

Update; No, I have to say that I have NEVER seen an editorial article with over 100 photos! amazing.
