This Sammy was the set I was thinking of getting instead of the 747 but if they're having probelms I think I'm almost 100percent certain I'll get the 747. The only 2 things left against it is that its 5in smaller which is a difference and the fact that no store near me has it so I cant see it in person before I buy it. Other than those 2 it seems like this is the TV for me!

Techaholic, how big is the difference between a 47" screen and a 52" in a normal setting (i.e. outside a showroom)? I wanted a 52" bad when I was shopping for my HDTV, but was surprised how decent (not overwhelming but just right) the 747i's 47" screen looks in my small studio apartment. Now that you've tasted 52 inches of goodness its going to be hard to come back to 47. Hope you make the right call for your viewing needs and thanks for not lying or pretending the 5265F was better than the 747i just to save face. There's no perfect HDTV and somedays I find myself wishing I had a 52" HDTV that is light (versus 130+ lbs.), swivels (the 747i is stuck) and is brand-new with 15,000:1 contrast ratio. But reading your thoughts makes me glad my HDTV accepts anything I've thrown at it, does PIP like gangbusters and makes my SD programs look decent. Grrrr...

Wow, looks like you're really, really disappointed with your new Sammy for everything but the HD and the screen size. Are the PIP options on the 5265F really that bad? You mean to tell me a cutting-edge 15,000:1 contrast ratio on the Sammy doesn't completely overwhelm and destroy the 747i's 1,600:1 contrast ratio? How can that be (especially for $800 more)?

dude don't get me going on the PIP, it sucks so bad, you have to bring up the menu to change its size, and its air or nothing, and when you are in air no PIp at all. You know how the 747 would let you just arrow to the screen you wanted to control, transfer sound and let you change input to your hearts desire, well not this Sammy, no sir.

Why the happy face saylor? If it were my Sammy 1080p TV constantly losing synch with HDMI I'd be fuming.

Happy cause he can still go back to his 747i ... One thing Techaholic said was the HD was awesome on his Samsung, maybe it was with the glass covering the panel, but on my Matte finish on the ln-t4665f it was horrible. It was very soft and not satisfying at all. I heard that the Olevia 747i is a beautiful crisp picture similar to the xbr2 or xbr3 is this true ??

Yep, the Olevia reflects only when the set is off (and its minimal, not mirror-like reflection). When on the HD pic is very similar to the XBR2/3 except (a) the Sony's look a lot more colorful out of the box (the 747i's are more subdued and realistic; first thing the set asks when you turn it on is whether you want "Home" or "Display" settings, and the PQ adjusts accordingly) and (b) the blacks/contrast ratio are just a tad lighter than the XBR2/3.

If you want a 52", and i suggest you get the larger size, you still have a couple of new choices. The Westinghouse which is priced closer to the Olevia:

And the Toshiba LX177 which is premium and priced in the 65 series ballpark:

Neither of which is out or priced yet. And neither packs a Realta HQV chip to smooth out signals, although the Tosh LCD's sure pack-in some killer specs. Guess lipcrkr is right Techaholic (you're living up to your handle name BTW ): if you can wait a few months see what the upcoming 52" models from Westy, Toshiba, Sharp, Sammy (the 81 LED models coming out later in '07) and other manufacturers offer. Or get a 47" Olevia now and in a couple of years upgrade to newer, more mature 1080p LCD models and give the 747i to your kids or move it to the bedroom.

And no, the 742i is still MIA.

Nope the Olevia is a real nice set for the price and is the lesser of Sharp, Sammy evils... actually it is a very nice well rounded HDTV and will do nicely until they sort out their issues a couple of years from now. Imagine this set with deeper blacks, it would be a hands down winner.

I saw it. I guess I just didn't understand it. I don't get out much. I know that you know what you are doing so forget I said anything. I am going to buy a 747 .... just as soon as I can convince the CFO that it is a good deal!

Question for anyone who has the answer ... My 747i shipped from Texas on tuesday, and I was told it was going to be here on friday, well the tracking information says it is already in Ontario, CA and ready to be unloaded. (that's where I am located) Does this mean that I will get the TV today or do I have to wait another day even though it is already in Ontario, CA ??

Here is a History:

Date Time Status
4/19/2007 03:10:28 AM TO BE UNLOADED AT SAN BERNARDINO,
4/18/2007 02:11:38 AM DISPATCHED FROM FORT WORTH, TX
4/17/2007 10:43:28 PM LOADED FORT WORTH, TX
4/17/2007 07:49:42 PM TO BE UNLOADED AT FORT WORTH, TX
4/17/2007 04:50:00 PM PICKED UP

Thanks in advance for any help.

You should ring UPS, FedEx and enquire... it might get there early, especially FedEx. However mine was out for delivery and the B$%7ard took it back because the box was too heavey and I just told them to hold it and picked it up myself....
