My first post here.

I can't find any review on the internet on Magnavox 42 lcd hdtv. model# 42MF531D.

Can anyone help or at least give me an idea?

This TV is in HomeDepot for $1200 right now. Is it a good one at this price?

I can't speak for the 42", but I have installed the 32' and the 37" for friends, they seem to be good sets, no problems at all. Personally, I am a plasma guy, but I didn't see anything bad about those two LCDs.

Lets see, I think the 32" was eight and the 37" was ten, first one from CC and second from Wally World.

I saw this TV at home depot too for 1199$ and also seen it at sears for 1859$. Pretty big price difference and was thinking about pulling the trigger on the home depot one. The guy at depot said they were only making 12$ profit on 'em. He only had 2 in stock.

Crusin thru Home Depot last saturday and saw this lcd tv. was not planing on purchaseing but our old magnavox 27 crt was on its last legs after 17 yrs. and they only had two one for display and one in the box. so i scooped it up and brought her home. i payed 1199.00 and no payments or intterest for 12 mths. pretty darn happy with it so far. feeding it from my dish 721 with svideo. just need to find good calibration tool for it that wont cost arm and leg. 42 inches at that price pretty darn good i thought.

The HD and Sears Magnavox lcd tvs, model 42MF531D are not the same. The HD is model "/37" and the Sears is model "/37a."

The HD model has a contrast ratio of 1200:1.

The Sears model has a contrast ratio of 3000:1. (Supposedly, anything above 2000:1 is superb.)

It took me a long time to find this out and finally did by calling Magnavox.

See the "Leaflet" files for the two 42MF531Ds at:

usasupport.magnavox.c0m (change the 0 to an o in com)

I saw the 42MF531D at Sears and I thought the picture was great. I went to Home Depot and bought one thinking both were the same models. I decided to return the one form Home Depot and getting either the 42MF531D/37b from Sears or the 42MF521D/37b from WalMart. The spec of the 42MF521D at the WalMart website shows contrast ratio of 3000:1 and brightness of 1000 cd/m2 same as the Sears model. I think the only difference between the two model is that the one at Walmart is black versus the one at Sears which is silver. I am still calling Magnavox to confirm.

I contacted Magnavox support and they are telling that the difference between the 42MF531D/37 and 42MF531D/37b is that the one with the "b" are refurbished units. When she told me that I mentioned to her that the units with "b" had a higher contrast ratio and brightness; she could not give an answer. I'm also baffled.
