It's very sporadic. It only happened 3 or 4 times in the last 10 days and it only stays for a second. I will have a camera handy and try to capture the exact moment.

I could not get my local BB to match that Office Depot price either. However, they said they could match an amazon.com price which was sold by amazon (couldn't be a third party), plus whatever shipping is. They said that store policy was they could only match local prices or Amazon.com, no other online retailers. Turns out Amazon is offering the 4053H for about $100 more than that Office Depot price, with free shipping. So it wasnt quite as good a deal, but was still much, much less than the BB price. I did this today, 2 days after I bought the TV, so you could still probably go over there, and get them to match the amazon.com price and save yourself some money.

Sounds like tearing. It is not the tv, but the signal coming through your HD-DVR box causing tearing. I have had that on both my Sony HD CRT and my Olevia LCD, which I am returning to get my 53H, lol.

It happens on occasion, especially through HDMI at 1080i. PLus each HD-cable box has different performance. I just switched to an HD-DVR box from a HD-cable box, and the new one renders HD darker and may occasionally stutter the HD signal. So performance will not just vary TV-to-TV, but from cable box-to-cable box.

THe only thing I would worry is that your DVD is getting tearing. Is it an upscaling DVD player and what model is it? Is it frequent or rare? DVDs shouldn't be tearing , maybe rarely, but not excessively. Anyway, good luck.

You must have been lucky and had a sales manager that was flexible. I would think Amazon is considered an Internet-only retailer which they say is exempt from price matching. Best Buy's Web site says:

Store Price Guarantee

Does Best Buy match prices of Internet retailers?
If you made your purchase in a Best Buy store, and you find an Internet retailer with a local retail store honoring its own online prices, we'll match their price, plus 10% of the difference. Internet-only retailers are exempt from our price matching program, as well as Web-exclusive offers. Eligible items must be the same brand and model, and currently in stock at the competitor's store. For purchases made online at BestBuy.com, please refer to the Online Price Guarantee on BestBuy.com.

It happend just once. It's an upscaling DVD (Philips DVP5960). I still have 20 more days to decide to return it or keep it. If the problem persists and no one reports this issue with the 53H i may go that road.

Ive had a line also, looked like a streak you would see when a vcr tape is bad. Ive had my tv since last Friday, seen it one time, using HDMI1 with my Directv HR20 HDDVR.

Also about 5 times the sound just muted, dont know if its the tv or the Directv HDDVR.
Didnt have the mute icon, could hit volume up or down and didnt bring back the audio, had to cut off satellite and cut back on.

The more I read this thread, the more I am wondering whether this is an issue with the 42H since there has been no reports of a 53H having this problem. If this is occuring on both versions of the sets, then I say it is nothing much to fret about. But if one is having the problem and not the other, then we may have an issue.

Whenever I get mine, no later than Friday, I will update as to my impressions as well as if I receive the same tearing problem. Have a good one all.

According to the manager I was talking with, Amazon.com is the only online retailer they will price match (and several other employees around seemed to confirm this). Shrug- not sure if it is a new policy or what, but it made me very happy

Ok, now the problem seems to be present in both series. I also have my HD DVR and my DVD set to 720p. Will change to 1080i and let you guys know how the 42H reacts.

I just picked up the 32" last week and have happy with it so far. I do notuice a stange thing when i have my motorola 6412-III connected via HDMI. If I have it set to 1080i 4:3 sidebar mode, where the SD channels have the black bars, there appears to be some image retention or bleeding into the black bars.

For example, if I were to watch an HD channel, then switch to an sd one, there are some artifacts left on the sidebars. also if i switch between sd channels, there seems to be some purplish horizontal distortion.

i tried to change the mode from 1080i to 720p, but it had no affect. the only setting that looks good is the stretch mode, which i don't really care for.

finally i switched over to the cable input and found that the 4:3 channels there have nice solid black bars, with no retention at all.

i tried to adjust the hdmi black level. switching from low to normal helped a little but it was still noticeable.

has anyone seen this?

here is a pic

Is your HD cable box at a fixed resolution, i.e. 1080i for all channels, or is it based on each channel, i.e. going from 1080i to a 480i source?

good point!

its 1080i for all channels. so i think the issue is the box filling in the sidebars.

i switched to 1080i for HD and 480p for SD, then changed the lcd to display 4:3 instead of 16:9. That makes the problem go away. it looks as good as it does when using the cable input.

the only problem now is that when switching from SD to HD takes a few more seconds, as the set and box sync to the new mode. I guess I can live with that.

How does tearing actually appear? It's a line completely across the screen.

I almost pulled the trigger on the 3253H, but decided to wait since i'm going out of town at the end of next week and can't be sure it won't be delivered while i'm away. The 3253 will fit in my wall unit. The 3242 is wider and won't fit.

With these possible problems maybe it's a good thing i have to wait. Thanks for all the info ppl.

I haven't recieved mine yet so I am just basing the tearing on what others have said. Tearing is when you see a horizontal line across the screen that appear as if the image is "tearing" away the top from the bottom. So if this is what is occuring, then tearing is going on. If it is just a line, and not looking as if it is out of sync, then it is something else. When I receive my samsung, I will be better able to comment.

Have a good one and good luck. BTW, is yours having the same issue, which model is it, and does it only occur through HDMI? Just wondering.

YES! Image 2 really shows what I'm experiencing (although not that noticeable) 3 or 4 inches from the bottom and only in 1 section of the screen (not like image 1 where you can see it all over). Yesterday while watching Lost (recorded trough my HD DVR) it happened twice (my wife wasn't able to perceive it both times even though I warned her to look for something suspicious), so I paused, went back a couple of seconds and re-playand it wasn't there .
Now I will investigate a little more about tearing and it consequences and if it's fixable.

I am very confused now. With this tv having a problem with 720p I don't know for what tv to get. You can see a differnce between 720p and 1080i? And the problem was on the previus Samsung LCD?

What propbelm does it have with 720p?

I just bought the 1080p from sammsung lnt4066 and to be honest, I cant really tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. I had a 32panny lcd 720p and sharp. Switched to this version only 8inches more of screen and double the resolutions, but I wouldn't know unless you told me. Xbox looks the same, wii looks the same, dvd's look a little worse. Now HD looks amazing but it always does. Im thinking about going back to 720p and save 13xx$. So just wondering how these new sammy's are in the 32inch. The 32inch looks just like my 4066f as far as the bezel goes and the buttons on the side that are heat sensitive...

The problem of the strange line running across the screen. 1080p and 720p look the same on a 32" TV. But are 1080i and 720p the same?

I just got the LN-T4053H. ($1,379+tax from techdepot, $35 shipping, shipped via Pilotair.)

I plugged in my five-year-old Apple Titanium Powerbook G4 laptop with a DVI/HDMI cable to the Samsung's HDMI-1 input. The computer instantly recognized the correct 1360x768 resolution, and the Samsung displayed it 1:1 with no overscan and no black bars. PERFECT and zero-config. The new Samsungs have it right.

Picture is spectacular, btw. You could say it's a bit of an improvement from the 21" CRT it replaced.
