I was thinking over the weekend - three more HD channels in our line up and I would never have to watch SD again! (we have all the networks, Fox Sports, TNT, Discovery (though they need their normal programs in HD), and ESPN - I want SciFi, Animal Planet, and FX).

What's the difference in cost between basic analog cable and basic analog cable with additional HD channels?

Why would someone want to price match their current price? For only 20.00 more they could get a 537H

Price match plus brings the price down 10%.

I'll try to remember to post a picture or two tonight. Should have Discovery HD now. Will be flipping between that and the Stros.

So do I. Especially Sci-Fi, you would think that considering the nature of their programming that they would WANT to broadcast in at least 720p. Sadly, it probably won't happen for another year though

You can on the 537H, so it looks like you guys have discovered another 'difference' between the two models. On the 537H you can set it when the tuner is on Switch to tuner and see it it appears in the menu. If it doesn't then they muted that feature.

Contact your cable company. Where we're at there is no difference

On the 237T it is available when using the tuner. It's not when you switch to HDMI.

When comparing manuals, there are other differences too. The RGB controls come to mind.

That's because those settings are for tuner signals, not picture output signals. If I have time later I'll post a flow chart which will explain it better

I keep forgetting about those But that is indeed another difference

Maybe it's the box I have, or the HDMI cable itself.

I have tried just about everything, tuner, cable box via component, cable box via HDMI, DVD via component, DVD via HDMI, and in all cases the scaling was excellent.

I doubt your HDMI cable is the problem.

Does the SD picture look bad at 1:1 if you move twice as close to the screen?

A better question is why doesn't Olevia mention it ANYWHERE? Not in their manuals, and not even on their website I've contacted them about it to try to get more specific information on why. When I hear from them I'll post and let you know what they say, but they should at least mention it somewhere I've also noticed that they don't mention Director's Image anywhere in the manual either

The manual does stink - "how to turn "X" on" - never explains what "X" does or when to best use it.

As far as Director's Image, I assumed this was the varying available levels of zoom/aspects...?

According to their website we're not supposed to be able to adjust Directors Image. It says; "Watch programs with the rich colors and image enhancements as the director intended." That implies that we should be able to turn something on to see what "the director intended." Pretty much everything about the manual is poor. I hope next years products actually have a readable manual. Almost every single review on the net about Olevias mention the bad manual. Hopefully someone at Olevia is taking notes I wonder how much busier their tech support department is, just because people have to contact them about simple questions that should be in the manual. Hopefully they'll keep the people who made the manuals - away from the people who design the TV's

I purchased a Sony DVP-NS75H HD upconversion DVD player today. It really enhances the picture! I put the HDMI and Component inputs on the new player side by side on the TV and I was surprised to notice that the component was clearer in my opinion. This of course works out really well since my satelite box will be HDMI and there is only one HDMI input on the TV. Has anyone else tried upconverting DVD players? Just wondering how their luck was. I have been told before that XBOX 360's also run a better picture through component cables than HDMI as well. This surprises me though because HDMI is 1080i and component is 480p.

Does anyone know if there a way to select the input resolution? Like, can I pick 720p, 1080i, or 480p on my devices?

Thanks,

cliff2456

You might be looking for Picture > Mode > Input > Hi Def TV.

Most upconverting DVD players ONLY upconvert over the HDMI output and not the Component. Its a copying protection issue. I believe the Sony follows this practice.

Upconverting DVD player improves the picture compared to what? The big improvement comes with progressive scan, so if you are comparing to a standard 480i DVD player, most of the improvement is probably there rather than the upconversion.

An SD DVD upscaled to 720p looks better than the same DVD at 480i

The manuals for the 237T and 237V are not available from Olevia's website.

The 237V manual is available here.

The brightness and contrast controls work off of each other. Sounds like you have one set way to high.

Got levels reset contrast was real high, picture is much better but the picture is a little dark for my liking and if i bump either up just a bit the white seems to overpower(like when screen has direct sun in the background)but it is much better than i originally had it set

Are most of you running the "fullscreen" option? In what situations would you use the other options (1:1, panoramic, zoom, aspect)?

I'm curious as to what settings everybody "configured" their Olevia with. If you have any suggestions as to how to make the picture even better than it already is, please post your recommendations. I know that some people have experienced the best picture with high contrast, low brightness, and high color.

I'm also interested in those of you that have upconverting DVD players. I was wondering if you experience a better picture via HDMI or component cables. You can run a split screen and view both at the same time do compare. It's a beautiful option! My experience was that the component looked better, and I have seen this happening to many LCD TV owners via forum posts. Many posts say that "it depends on your TV" whether component or HDMI looks better.

Thanks
