In order to this thread looks more professional I’d propose the following New User Template:
1. Model name –
2. Bought date and place –
3. Manufacturing date and place –
4. Software Version – (available from XMB Product Support > Contact Sony)
5. Firmware Version – (available from SM: from the TV turned OFF shortly push one button after another on remote: Display > 5 > Vol+ > ON/Power. Turn TV off to exit.)
6. Detected Issues – (if any)
7. Comments – (pros and cons)

Feel free to add/edit this template. If agreed it suppose to be mandatory for each new user to fill this template.
Please advise.

Can anybody confirm the bezels of the XBR4 being the same removable bezel mold of the XBR2? and can be swapped with those?

Thanks

When mine comes in I'll try and remember to post this info.

Well this is my experience: I have at times left my DVD/BD/DVR on pause for upwards of 45 minutes (sometimes while coming here to read/post) and never once seen any trace of IR or Burn In. However, when viewing my close friend's plasma a DVD Menu or DVR on pause for even 15 seconds shows clear IR, although he hasn't had any permanent burn in on his current TV (he did on a previous gen plasma).

I really want to get one of these TVs, but there's so little information about them out there that I can't find answers to any of these questions! If someone could help, it would be greatly appreciated!

I'd suggest you find a store that has the unit on display with a isolated feed to it. I went to a local Circuit City and it had it on a split feed and I couldn't tell much of any difference between it and a Samsung 65 and 71 series. There were literally 15-25+ TVs all on the same feed. They all looked horrible with macroblocking and artifacts, and because they were far apart I couldn't really compare black levels.

I just came from another C.C. further away and it was hooked up to a Sony blu-ray player and the thing looked incredibly good. Black levels were great for the environment as well as colors and all that. But this gives you an opportunity to change settings and see what impact, if any, it has on the picture. I didn't have time to play with it a lot, but if it's important to you I suggest trying to find a similar setup.

well guys my 46XBR4 came in today with the box ripped aparts and TV sticking out of it. The delivery driver is like "um... you probably wanna reject that" So I am not getting a Sony, I will wait for the new 81 series to be out at stores.

Whoever posted that Cnet user review didn't say anything about trying to view those fast scenes with motionflow on or off. It makes you wonder if they knew that feature was available. Or did I miss something?

zmickz1,
Thanks. It was something that worked with the XBR2/3s after the USB patch was applied. At Brightness of 50 or more, the auto-dimming stopped auto-dimming! :-)

On that stand I think the only option is the fixed mount.

You'd have to do a wall mount for articulation. I'm actually not using that mount and will have the tv sitting on the stand.

As of now from what we've heard Motion Flow and Motion Plus seem to be quite similar; the only big difference that hasn't been talked about much yet is the difference in contrast ratios and blacks.

Some pictures in the 71 series owners thread hint at a VERY dark screen in a pitch black room. How is the XBR4 performing in a home theater environment? Do you get deep blacks or greys? Can someone post a picture of a black screen in a black room, to see how much light passes through?

for me the black levels are the best I have ever seen on an LCD, the black just seemed pure black to me

1)Sony W3000 vs. Sony XBR4

Can you please give me any feedback on if the 120 Hz feature is a noticable difference? (I will be using the tv for gaming as well)

What would be your weapon of choice?

2)Sony XBR4/Sony W3000 vs. Samsung 71 vs. Toshiba LX177?

Someone recommended the LX177 for the value as long as I get lucky with the green push issue. Do all the LX177s exhibit this problem to a certain degree?

Was anyone able to compare any of these models side by side with objective settings? Thank you.

You should either PM bpmurr or look for his post in this thread since he has both Sony 46XBR4 and Toshiba 46LX177 right now. He did write up a comparison about those two models.

Now, all you have to do is to ask him to purchase Samsung 4671F and compare all three models at the same time under a same conditions.

Great! You did it! I've fixed my first post and removed our "ping-pong" communications, so I think you can clean up yours.

Interesting that your XBR4 settings are very close to my 40W3000. My FW version has last character "M".
SM has only 2 differences:
DM1. 010A00LA
BD1. 012A00LUW
Now we have to figure out what these numbers stand for... So we need more data, starting, but not limiting, from 40XBR4 and 52W3000 for cross comparison...

If I had to buy one of the glare brothers it would be the 4681F. If someone can get me one in the Baltimore area we can do a LCD Shootout, with the actual settings being posted!

Just checked with CC and my 46xbr4 is here!

Now I just need to get rid of my current ent. center and take my current tv to Greensboro, get a stand, some HDMI cables, a PS3, and I'm good to go...yikes.

The stand I posted on page 1 has an articulated mount for the TV. I'm not sure of the angle, but it will swivel left/right (no vertical motion, though).

They aren't ISF calibration settings, but for home use I'd say its arguable that there are any standard settings that are worse than straight out of the box vivid mode unless you're looking at this:

Would be nice to see if someone else could run their XBR4/5 through a calibration test / dvd and post their adjusted settings. We have our monitors at work professionally calibrated once per month and I'm tempted to have one of the guys drop by my house and calibrate my XBR4.

I just checked out the XBR4 in circuit city, but they couldn't find the remote for me to play around with the settings. I stood there for about 15 or 20 minutes tinkering with it using the side control buttons, but ended up just getting frustrated trying to calibrate it that way. The main thing I wanted to check out was the motionflow, but I was wondering if there was a quick way to toggle it on and off without going through the menus. The best I could figure would be to setup two settings identical except for the motionflow, and swapping between them, but I wasn't about to do that without a remote to quickly navigate the menus.

There is a quick "fly-out" menu that you can use to change these settings...
Was it in the manual? I can't remember... I saw it somewhere.
