Nevermind. I found answers that allowed me to try a reload here: (can't post urls yet, Samsung LN-Txx69F FAQ page 1)

I now know that 1008.3 was cleanly loaded on my LN-T4681F per the samsung.com site. But the TV is not happy. Not sure if 1008.3 has some incompatibility with my hardware version. My advice is to not load this version unless you know it fixes something specific to your TV.

Turns out the LVDS_TX_Fmt option byte was set to VESA. From other posts it seems this is what it should be, but for my unit, it wasn't happy until I set this to JAIDA. Maybe an early 81 unit?

I also updated to ver 1008.3 and am FUBAR. I need help getting it fixed!

I noticed that you have found out how to reapply the firmware update, and also noted a particular code that needed to be set properly. Will you share the details with me?

Thanks.

The poster known as santori_time is a goddamn genius! All Samsung wanted to do is send a repair tech out to replace my main board for about $250 or more! So instead, I did a search after the firmware update ruined my picture, and I found this solution by santori_time! Thx so much to santori_time!

2. Service Menu Screen should pop up.

3. On the Menu Screen, select the second option called "option byte".

4. Scroll down to the fifth option called "Panel Option".

5. Scroll forwards or backwards until you see "46 AML".

6. Select "46 AML" and the TV should return to normal.

I had to go into the service menu on my LG LV9500 nano led to get the 3D working(the 9500 did not come with the 3d turned on.at 1500 bucks i had no problem turning it on). This is the first time I've seen a service menu on the 81 F.
I had the main board replaced by geek squad this year because the Quam tuner was not working.
the tuner is still not working right and I was wondering if I could do anything in the service menu to fix it.
The 81F is still a great TV and beats any edge lit led out their. If you really want to see local dinming, you need to see the LG LV9500 nano 2200 LEDs and 280 local dimming zones

The update made my 81f able to adjust the back light settings in movie mode with smart light on.
Did anyone try to see if the 81f series can be upgraded to 120 hz in the service menu? This TV came out the same time 120hz came on the scene.
My LG LV9500 did not come with 3D enabled, some guys on this form got into the service menu and made the active 3D work.

you need to read this thread and do a reset in the service menu: Your display is ok, the same thing happened to me when I applied the 1008.3 update. Follow the procedure below:

1. Access Service Menu: with TV off, press mute, 1, 8, 2, power.

2. Service Menu Screen should pop up.

4. Scroll down to the fifth option called "Panel Option".

5. Scroll forwards or backwards until you see "46 AML".

6. Select "46 AML" and the TV should return to normal.
In your case it is 40 AML.

give it a try you do not have anything to lose.

I would try reinstalling the software update again.
If that does not work go back to the service menu and make sure you set it to 40 aml.You have to set it to 40 because that is the size of the TV.

Nagysaudio I hope your 81F is working.I have the 40 inch in my bedroom and I am still happy with this TV. After all it has stood the test of time because I believe it beats all the edge lit TV'S and still holds it own.P.S. I have the nano lg 9500 led local dimming.

I had my 81f main board changed do to a tuner problem,is their any way to find out what board was installed.
I have done the software update and was wondering, did it make it so you can adjust the Back lite in movie mode? When this TV came out you could not adjust the back lite in movie mode, now I can adjust it in movie mode! Was it the software or the new motherboard?

Does anyone know how to turn back the software on the 81F? I upgraded to 1008.3 and want to go back to the last upgrade before 1008.3.

I know that I'm getting in this at the very end but I just opened the files in the update and some were from 2007 and didn't look right to me. The update 1008.3 on their site says 10/20/11?? When I called Samsung and described what I read in the download files they told me NOT to use it and that they reported it as a problem. The reason that I looked for support was that all the other TVs in my house can get the "on air" (through a cable) channel 11.2, it cannot be programed or displayed on my 5281. Their reply was to call a repairman..........Is the update ok and what did fix??

Geek squad replaced my board on the 40-81f and it did not solve all the problem with the turner.I down loaded the 1008.3 and it did not fix the turner.
I am not happy with the 1008.3 update and posted on this forum asking if anyone knew how to go back to the previous version , no one replied..
don't update!

Thanks! What don't you like about the update, what were the problems? My problem, it seems on the 5281 & my 40" Samsung too is that there are a few local channels with decimal points that I can't get no matter what I try. All my other TVs, one of them a cheap Viore gets them just fine. Samsung told me to call a repairman.................I don't think so.

The turner on my 81F would get stuck on channel 10.1,I had pages of channel 10.1. I have comcast and my old polaroid works fine.
Geek Squad replaced the main board and it help the tuner a little, but did not fix it totally. I upgraded the software to 1008.3 and it didn't help,so I tried to go back and couldn't.
The new software picks up the inputs even if they are not on.

Im still using a 4681f. Im curious though as to how it compares to the tv models out now. Does anyone know how it compares as far as picture quality goes to the low end, middle, high end tvs of the past couple of years?

The 81 series is still a top line tv. I have a 46 sharp,40 81f and an LG nano led 55.First off after buying the 81 series I would not buy another non local dimming led set.The LG with nano led 480 refresh rate is a top line 2012 TV and I would rate it with the top SonyTV'S.My Samsung set the standard for led local diming TV,but the nano is a lot better with 2300 LEDss and 288 dimming zones, the 480 refresh rate make a difference with motion when comparing it with the 60 that is in the 81Fseriess.Blooming is a lot less on the lv9500 then the 81f and you can tell on the flash light cave sceen in Prometheus.
Over all I would rate the 81F series lower high end if you leave 3D out of the picture.
I am sti impressed with the low black levels of the 81F and don't like the gray of TV'S(Plasma) when the TV suppose to go full black, nothing like being in a dark room and Will Smith closes the shutter and the room goes black and you can not see the TV nothing! (I am legand)

Thanks for the response, appreciate it. I was already for the most part looking to get a good deal on a local dimming set. More convinced now that is the way to go if buying a new tv.

I recently got this TV and would say the Soap Opera Effect on this model is really bad. I can't tell the difference between with the motion setting on or off. Is there anything in the service menu to help reduce the effect?

Power problem 5281f

I know this thread is old as dirt but as an early adopter of this set I (more so my son now) still enjoy it until lately. When powering up, an internal relay (PSU I suspect) clicks on and off for a progressively longer time each week before the set comes to life. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you (were you able to) get it repaired or just get a new set based on cost?

Normally I would just get a new display but we just moved. Want to cut my losses one way or another.

Regards,
Dave
