I am looking for my first HDTV - unfortunately the cabinetry in my family room will only allow a TV with the width of 40 inches and I don't really feel like replacing the cabinetry. I am not really on a budget and would like to buy a tV with the best picture and color that I can with the best technology in it. Being able to connect to a Mac for content is a bonus, but not a must have. I will probably connect both over the air and cable and may put in a Blu ray DVD (but really don't watch a lot of DVDs right now anyway). I started out looking for plasma tvs, but can't really find anything that will fit in the space.

I am considering the Sony 40 inch W3000, but am willing to consider anything else.

Also, sorry for the newbie question, but with the move to HD, will I have to replace my Denon AVR 2807 receiver?

Thanks for your help!

The Sony V3000 is cheaper and about the same TV, and the Samsung 4061 is about as good.

As for replacing the Denon, is it 5.1 audio-capable already? How many coaxial and optical audio inputs does it have? Does it have a dedicated 5.1 analog audio input? A dedicated 7.1 analog audio input?

Samsung 4065F on amazon now for $1400 with free shipping... pretty damn good PQ. The W3000, V3000, and 4061F would also be good choices. Really in that 40" size point you have a few really good sets to choose from.

40" is the diagonal measurement of the display. A 40" TV, w/o side speakers and including the frame is pretty close. My 40" set measures 39 3/8 x 29 x 13 (w/stand). You do need to leave some space around the set for cooling/heat dissipation. The recommended area around my set is 6" on the sides and 8" on the top.

i went thru this exact problem. the only 40inch tv that fit my 39.5 inch width entertainment center was the sony kdl 2500v. i believe the newer models are slightly wider.

I am in a similar situation, except my cabinet is 41" wide. I have been checking out the BF ads and came across the HP LC4276N from BB. It is a 42" television and the specs indicate that it is 40" wide. This is one that I am seriously considering.

Mits also has a 40" that is 37" wide. I don't know how this compares to the Tosh though. I am just starting my short list.
