I'm limited to Best Buy and and trying to keep the TV in the $900-$1100 range. There's a couple 42 inch sets in that range that I'm strongly considering. I've read various posts on here about how there are several factors to consider in picture quality over just the resolution (contrast, etc). With that in mind, the one TV is an Insignia 1080p (LCD) and the other is a LG 720p (Plasma).
Without a lot of experience with this, other than the resolution, the only other major technical difference I can recognize is the contrast (1200:1 for the Insignia and 15000:1 for the LG). I don't know which factor is more influential in the picture or what else could be a deal maker? Best Buy is a 2 hour trip for me and I'm hoping to get some idea before I make the drive which some of the knowlegable folks on here would consider to be a better value all things considered. It will be primarily used with the Xbox360 at this point. Viewing distance is about 6 feet. Both displays can be seen on the Best Buy site but it won't let me post direct links.
thanks in advance for any input,
