Some nice looking sets. The "Z" series ones seem pretty sweet.

Any 52" "Z" coming? Any chance of 57" Sony LCDs in 2008 or 2009?

WOW THATS GREAT NEWS NOW 2 IMPORTANT QUESTION.. IM SURE IT WILL COME IN A 52 INCH MODEL WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT WE CAN EXPECT IT TO BE PRICED UNDER 4,000 DOLLARS...... WILL IT BE SIMILARLY PRICED TO THE SAMSUNG LED SET.... AND WHAT WILL IS SONY DOING WITH THE STRICT MSRP PRICING DOES THAT MEAN THAT EVERYONE HAS TO SELL IT FOR THE SAME PRICE..... so noone can have it on sale.... i can see myself paying 3,500 dollars for this set but not 4,000 dollars....

To reiterate what has already been said, Samsung's March/April release 52" CCFL A650 (very likely to be their mid range model for the year) is $3700 MSRP. Personally (and this is complete conjecture on my part), I think Samsung may actually have 2 LED models lined up for the Fall. If they do, one will probably be the 850 (rebadged 81 with the same 4ms 120Hz panels found in the 650/750), and then a high end 950 with some features they can use to justify a price premium (something along the lines of these Triluminous LED's, larger number of zones, or a high end processing chip not unlike Toshiba with their Cell). I don't think there's any possibility the 52" XBR will be under 4k. I wouldn't be surprised if the Z line exists for the very reason of inflating the XBR prices.

That's a good theory about the Z line/series.

2. What are the hardware chances of the models pictured in the first posts of this thread having the Sony logo light up on the bezel part, and not the clear plastic part; like last years floating glass design.

I know wishful thinking that even though there is the big clear plastic gap on the bottom of this years models, that maybe the XBR series would still have speakers on the side.

Thanks.

from that picture you can tell it's the 82" 4k LED shown at CES08(look at first page). it's just to big compaired to the 40/46" tvs around it.

i was all set for a nice 46" Z series this spring but i guess i have to wait for sony to announce the 46" xbr7/8's this summer.

I'm frankly puzzled with Sony's product decisions this year.

No more RPTVs; yet there does not seem to be any forthcoming 57" or 65" LCDs and the 70" LCD may as well be a prototype with the crazy pricing they are asking for it.

XBRs are introduced but none at large sizes and even the cool looking (to me anyways) "Z" series is shown with a 40" and 46" size but no 52"

What about people like me with a 50" Grand Wega that would like to step up to a larger size? Does Sony want to force me to go to another manufacturer?

I like the thin bezel and look of the "Z" series model. Too bad there is no 52" and 57" size at present.

i have a feeling with the recent deals with sharp and samsung now the will have larger panels.

also the RPTV market is so terrible they were smart to exit early. the xbr's i have a feeling will be in a 57 inch flavor.

I can't blame them for leaving the RPTV market as it only made sense from a business perspective (although it is too bad that the excellent SXRD sets will no longer be made; imagine how good they would be in a couple of years).

Sony seriously needs 57" glass and if they come out with a 57" XBR that would be killer! I am a fan of the present 52" XBR but the design of the form factor (despite its beauty) makes the set just too wide.

That'll never happen, that's price fixing, and Sony will get busted on it. Only way that'll happen is like the PS3, if store's don't make any money at MSRP, so they don't discount it.

so what does the new unilateral msrp pricing stand for.. also as far as sony having a 52 inch tri xbr set fr under 4,000 why cant u see that happening..... when the new xbr4 and 5 52 inch came out in last years model wasnt it 5000 msrp and that quickly fell and now u can have them for about 2900.. so ur saying that by christmas end we will no see these sets at about 3500

I'm sure they consider the death of rear projection covered by the 2 sub-3k 1080p SXRD Front Projectors they have this year. Lets be realistic, how many people who were considering a 2-3k RP SXRD are going to entertain the idea a 5, 6, or 7 grand flat panel? Not many. This is Sony we're talking about here, they're not going to launch a larger size for the first time ever at an entry level price.

We're all just guessing, they could very well stick to the XBR pricing of last year. Based on the market and pricing now though, if a 52" CCFL Samsung is $3700, it stands to reason that an LED XBR is probably going to command a little more than a $300 price premium.

anyone know if the larger xbr's will look the same as the small xbrs. Or is the Z series the best looking design out of this year.

Is it strange to anyone else that for panels such as the W and Z's suppose to be lauching in April that we still don't have many details at all. CNET hasnt reviewed them etc. I am beginning to think delay.

The most likely explanation is that there is no sufficient market for such big displays sold at a right price. Prototypes of 82" LCD are being shown
all the time, 70" LCD is marked as a product. But they can not be made cheap enough and market is not enough big for them to be sold. There was some information that the number of 70" cold was in the order of one hundred.

One can be sure that the 52" is the current sweetspot wrt size/price/demand.

The first page has a close up picture of basketball video game and soccer players with blur. Is it possible to tell if that is from the response time from the tv as apposed to something else?

Well I'm going to have to disagree. with this last part.... the MAIN reason I've NOT upgraded my GWIII is BECAUSE of the size to cost... I WILL NOT go down in size.. I LOVE MY 60" and will NOT go smaller. BUT
I AGREE the $$$$ needs to come DOWN!

From what I read, and this is just my onion, the new Samsung 6 series are just minor upgrades from last year.

Pioneer will stop making 42" inch plasmas, and will get there panels/glass from Sharp?, is that correct.

how do you figure? 4ms on the 6 series vs. 8ms on the 71s... 50k:1 contrast on the 6 series vs. 25k:1 on the 71s... that seems like more than a minor upgrade to me...

biggest hope people have about the 6 series is it hopefully fixes the motion issues that the 71 has.
