To the best of my knowledge, the main feature separating the XBR from the other models is its processor, the Bravia Engine Pro, versus the Bravia, Bravia EX, and now the Bravia Engine 2 in the upcoming V, W, and Z models.

L Series (entry level - Replaces current M Series) - 26, 32, 37.
M Series (Mid line smaller - replaces current S Series) - 19, 26, 32, 37, 40.
N Series (mid line w/ built in surround sound) - 26 (no rear speakers), 32, 37.
S Series (Now 40"+ and entry level 1080p) 40, 46.
V Series (mid line 1080p - Replaces V2500 series) - 40, 42, 46, 52. All of these models will be available as a V4100 and a V4150. Difference has not been defined by sony as of yet.
W Series (High-Mid line 1080p - Adds 120Hz Replaces V3000) - 40, 46, 52.
Z Series (High End 1080p - Repalces W3000 - Adds Slim Bezel) - 40, 46, 52
XBR 6 (Replaces XBR4 - adds 32" and 37" 1080p) - 32, 37, 40, 46, 52
XBR 7 (Replaces XBR5) - 40, 70
XBR 8 (Adds triluminous) - 46, 55

Welp, that's that. If it turns out there are 3 XBR lines, pricing on the 8 is going to be stratospheric. Factor in strong possibilities for limited distribution and a very late release (October?) and it's out of the question for me. That explains the 55" model's existence, thanks for the info harrie.

All mentions of it I've found through web searches suggests September, although I guess the difference is pretty academic. Like you said, the 55" is probably going to be crazy expensive, although how the 46" stacks up against the LG75 might be interesting.

That's the first thing that came to my mind.
The fact there will be no 40" or 52", seems like they really are limiting the size.
The 46" price will be sky high & the price of the 55" will be so high it might as well come with a free Ferrari as a gift.

That's probably a bit of an exaggeration. The price of high output LEDs drop every year, so it's pretty much a given that they'll be a fair bit less than the current 81F Samsungs (not that they are exactly cheap).

i wonder how the M series will compete with other TV/monitors? I'm currently using a Samsung Synchmaster SM2032MW and I think the Sony will have to be special to beat it. Although the Sony model does look very nice.

That looks to be the case. Similar to Samsung only releasing LED in their 81 series last year.

Excellent...Thanks for the link! BTW, from the two websites I found that are posting early KDL-46W4100 pricing, it looks like it's going to initially be sold around the $2599 mark. I wonder if Costco is going to sell a variant of this model.

It'll be interesting if the news about there being three different XBR lines is true, although it'll be a bit sad that there will less models with LED backlights. The 55" model (which will be an IPS panel if it's the one I'm thinking of) sounds interesting.

Are you sure of that the 55" will be the IPS panel. From what I read and what I see on the slide of the japanese website. The model 40" and below will be S-IPS panel. The rest above will remain to be the S-PVA panel.

Bump. I'm curious about the same thing. I haven't seen anything saying the Z4100 would be available in 52" (although it does seem strange that it wouldn't be). Has anyone seen anything from Sony stating otherwise?

Toronto1970 and Joezo

I don't have the book from sony in front of me at the moment, but i'm pretty sure it was going to be available in 52". Their dealer site hasn't uploaded any Z4100 info as of yet, so it's all preliminary until i have something i can physically print out.

There is nothing in the anouncement indicating this.

Tri LED seems to be reserved for big XBR's and then perhaps only for selected ones. Hope still burns Sony will move away from ionospheric pricing of Tri LED which they did with their 70" LCD.

That's probably a bit of an exaggeration. The price of high output LEDs drop every year, so it's pretty much a given that they'll be a fair bit less than the current 81F Samsungs (not that they are exactly cheap).

I would be inclined to agree if we weren't dealing with Sony and a new 3 tier XBR strategy. If I were placing a bet right now, I'd put it on the 46" at $3999 MSRP (same as 81 at launch, not now). Their sense of entitlement towards price premiums will offset any reduction in production cost--especially on a brand new product tier. I don't even want to hazard a guess on the 55" cause a lot of people would probably start crying. I wonder what they're going to put in the XBR6 though. I figured they would slap the 4ms panels in the Z4100's, but maybe their focus is only on the thin bezels. I can only assume the XBR6's bullet points will be the fast, high CR panels found in the Samsung 650/750 and an updated Pro Bravia Engine (or whatever they call it). Point still stands that they need to get the specifics out on ALL of these.

the 32xbr6 page has just been removed from the circuitcity website, but given that some of the specs were suspect to begin with (such as listing 60hz instead of 120hz), I'm fairly certain the LED listing was a mistake as well

Toshyrrific!
