Sony here in Greece (Europe) was quick.

KDL-52W4000, 46, 40, 32 (all 1080p) with "Midnight Sky" bezel, unfortunately without 100Hz. Available from May '08.

Just spoke with a guy at Sears and came away with questions. First, he said that he just spoke with the Sony rep and was told the XBR8 would be out around the end of summer with a price tag of around $6800. He said if he were purchasing, he'd get the new Pani 50" Plasma. He said it has the fast 480 processor to handle motion and a brighter picture than the Sony will have, along with richer colors. Any thoughts on the SBR8 vs the Pani?

remove space between http:// and 129.

So according to this info it seems as though Sony has removed 120Hz motionflow from the small size XBR’s. I wasn’t expecting that considering the current 720p 32xbr4 has 120Hz.

urbanstar, under "24fps true cinema" they mention using motionflow 120hz technology. It's weird that they dont mention it anywhere else, like under specifications... but that's where it was mentioned. I guess it will be on the 32 and 37

120hz is yesterdays technology. Kind of like a radio in a new truck bragging about having a radio recieving stereo FM broadcasts.

the sears guy is an idiot. the pani does NOT have a brighter picture than any LCD. he claims that because panasonic threw out the million to one contrast....

Yeah, even some of the higher-end Samsung LCDs are brighter than Sony's (especially that LED one). So, I'd give it a wait and see what the XBR line brings out, and we'll have something to compare apples to apples with.

So it isnt clear whether the W line will have the expanded color space or not. I thought no but people are saying now that it doesn. Mabey they are just trying to save that for a difference for the Z line ? Wish I knew for sure. Although I am pretty set on the W either way.

Unless they're going Qualia on us, I should sure hope it's the 55". Anyone recall the 5781's launch MSRP, $6999 or $7999? The 5281 was $4999 wasn't it? I would still place that bet on (at least) $3999 for the 46". What in the world are they going to do with the XBR6/7 to make them relevant against the W and Z.

The 57 81F is $7999 list and about a thousand less street now. Not sure if it was more expensive at release or not.

Got the price of $6800 on the 55"XBR8. Not sure if this is the place to ask, but I really would like some opinions on the '08 XBR line compared with similarly priced Plasma lineup. Risking flamage, the Sears guy basically said the Sony is approaching Panny plasmas, but not equalling them in color, brightness, motion handling...I hadn't considered a plasma before talking with this guy, but now I'm asking.

I think Panasonic (but not Pioneer) plasmas have underwheling colour performance, at least with brighter scenes. Maybe not their top top models, but certainly that has been my experience with all their consumer models. RGB LEDs have the bigger gamut than phosphors, and I'd imagine the Sony will calibrate to more accurate colours than a Panny plasma if past experience is anything to go by.

Without question the Sony will be brighter than the Panny. It probably won't even be close.

Motion handling, LCDs are still behind plasmas and projectors. Technology is narrowing the gap, but there is still a ways to go yet.

W line will have x.v.Color technology, as well as Live Color Creation System featuring WCG-CCFL and Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) Function.

I hope we carry the 37xbr at work. For 1500, that's a damn good price if I can get a discount on top of it.

I agree with you...while Panasonic Plasmas were quite good a couple of years ago...I think most of the pundits are placing the Pioneer Kuro ahead of it. Also, they are saying the newer crop of LCDs are starting to match plasma displays in color and brightness with the only lag being in black level but that is getting better with every turn of the crank...so i suspect the XBR8 may be quite a display...of course with quite a price, too

The price are pretty cheap for the XBR6 & the V4100. But! You have to purchase separately the Table-Top Stand (pedestal) or the Wall-Mount Bracket.

You can see directly on the webpage in the section Specification or inside the Owner's Manual page 6 & 46.

Can we say:"YAY!!!! More option for the custumer or just a rip-off?"lol
