Hey guys,

I will be starting the process of returning my Sony KDL52W3000 tomorrow morning because of smearing, among other problems, and was wondering if there were any 120hz LCDs with a matte screen? My living room is very bright (i could even see my reflection on my Sony during the day).

Also, any recommendations for a 52inch LCD that is good with gaming? (no smearing in particular). Im moving away from Sony because of the problems ive had with them, so anything other than the current Sony models please. If there are only glossy 120hz models, please recommend one as well . At this point I'll take anything (glossy or not), just as long as it works as it should Obviously 60hz are also welcome, but 120hz would now be more desired to futureproof.

Have you considered the Panasonic PZ77 series plasmas? They have a matte finish screen and better picture quality than any LCD I've seen. I own the 42" model. My living room is bright and I have no problems at all with with glare. The picture quality is amazing.

If you're dead set on LCD take a look at the latest Mitsubishi LCD sets. They have matte finish screens and 120hz.

The samsung 69 series is 120hz with a matte screen, but only comes in 40 and 46 inch size.

I currently have a samsung 4661. I will be bringing it back bec of a minor issue within the first 30 days. Now I am reading about the 4669 having a matte screen as well. I am very happy with the 4661, however, are there some advantages of getting the 4669 in picture quality or some other technical issue that will actually make a difference in watching tv? I might as well consider my options since I can either make a simple exchange or I can opt to upgrade to the 4669. thanks for your imput.

hey guys,

I was finally able to return my Sony set for credit yesterday so im back shopping for a TV. I wanted to ask if buying a tv now close to superbowl is a good idea. Do stores change their return policies? I have 3k to spend and since its credit its gonna go completely toward a TV, so whether or not its on sale is not an issue for me.

Among other things, the 4669 has "auto motion plus" motion enhancement. To decide whether this is something you'd want, you really need to see it in person. It can have a dramatic effect on the picture but some people find it too strange or are really bothered by the artifacts. If you can find a xx69 set in the store, have them set it up with a movie and in split-screen mode to demonstrate the AMP effect. A xx71 set can also serve for an AMP demo, as it has the same guts as the xx69 (just ignore the glossy screen).

What problems did you have with your Sony? I just got a 52" XBR4. Do these sets have a reputation?
