So how's the TV? Post post post!!!

Does the HD Natural Motion work as good or better then the Samsungs?

ps. Someone posted saying Philips is Korean. Isn't it German or one of those European countries?

This tv seems to be impressive. Also the price for the 52 seems like a steal.

I just finished up a 17 pages survey about this TV (part of a special early bird deal) The unpacking was easy. It took me less than 5 minutes in unpacking and connection it to the all the components. (Directv HR21-700, PS3 and Philips Sound bar) all through HDMI connector. No handshaking issue noticed.

This years model have rounded edge and a clear plastic surrounding all around the TV. (I believe it's for it's own surround sound) a little useless for me since I'm connected it through the Soundbar. It looks very pretty on the outside. The reflective piano black bezel is reflective to the light in the viewer side. Similar to the 7422 series. The sound of this TV is better than the 7422. It's more clear and not distorted when turn all the way up. The sound level is a bit too low for a Big room, but it's enough for a 12' x 12' room.

The TV base is pre-installed by the factory which is a nice touch for me since I'm not hanging it on the wall.

Initial setup - when first power on the TV it when through a setup guide by splitting the screen in two half and let you choose which one you like most. After you pick all the screens (I believe there were 6 of them) the TV had "learned" your preference.

Picture quality was very good. The fast moving object was perfect on the PS3 (was showing planet earth blue ray) I say it's better than the 7422. Since thats the only comparison I have. The dark scene is also better but that's not true black (I don't think any LCD can achieve that yet) I can't say which black level are better since the two TV are not in the same room.

Perfect pixel HD: It look very good on "Demo" give you a very big difference. But when I'm playing BR disk there are not much difference either its on or off. When watch with Directv sometimes I got pixelation, but I believe it's from the Source since the BR playback are perfect.

I'll try to post more review later.

Nope, Philips headquarters are in Amsterdam, man. LG.Philips LCD is not really anything to do with Philips - Its a Joint venture with LG which Philips have a stake in. They have actually decreased their ownership percentage recently.

I once assumed that the panels created by LG.Philips LCD were always used in Philips TV, but that's simply not the case. My Philips 37PF9830 TV actually uses a Sharp LCD Panel.

As for this new TV - I cant wait to get one, I really cant!

I'm glad that Philips have kept to their release schedule but its seems this is for the US. Anybody know when we can expect to see them over here in the UK.?

Well if they are on clearance now I would say they will get the TVs sometime in April. It will take a little while to clear out stock depending on how hard they push them in the ads.

A friend of mine that works in the local Best Buy (central MO) said their computer showed new Philips sets arriving around March 23. He didn't remember the exact model numbers but said that is why the current Philips stock is on close-out.

Also, I noticed Amazon shows the 47PFL7603D & note it ships 'within 1 to 2 months.' This is my first post & I don't think I can yet post a link or url but you can find it by searching Amazon for 'Philips 47 LCD'.

I'm waiting for the 52 with Ambilight due in May, I hope it's on schedule.

Looks like it's up on buy.com too (not in stock). If you google the model number there are a few sites that will alert you when they get it in stock. I didn't see that feature on amazon.

the screen is not reflective if that's what you mean. ie you can't use the screen as a mirror, but you can use the bezel as a mirror

Sound awesome. I'm more excited now. How well does the HD Digial Motion work? I'm not talking about he smearing, I just want to know how consistant it is.

The sony isn't as consistant as the samsung. The sony i would say works about 30 to 40 percent of the time I was watching I AM LEGEND. The samsung worked about 60 to 70 percent of the time.

How consistant is the HD Natural Motion on yours SM7383?

1) Is black acceptably black?
2) 2ms are actually 2ms or is ghosting noticeable?
3) What about 1080p24? Judder free native reproduction or again stupidity?

hello to all, i just have a couple of thoughts on philips tv's that i would like to share. firstly i have been looking at a lot of tv's lately and as far as delivering a smooth picture it's really hard to fault the philips tv's my biggest concerns stemmed from no direct backlight control. i was almost ready to buy a sony when i went back to the philips site and read the specs on the 7403d and suddenly i am back to a choice of 2, these specs with full backlight control and excellent power consumption figures have pulled me back to the philips. whoever said consumer reports down rated philips really didn't read the article and consumer reports should spend more time in the forums. i have read pretty much every post in the 7432/7422 thread and have found it very enlightening, at least philips cares enough about their customers to read the forum! i think i will be patient and wait for the 7403 as i believe it will be an awsome tv and if i was going to nitpick i would question 3:2 / 2:3 pulldown with 120Hz refresh when 5:1 makes more sense lol. the philips tv's i have seen at costco et all, have all impressed me with there smooth motion and excellent detail even at 60Hz. oh by the way consumer reports didn't even test a philips tv in last years report they just gave a general repair history which includes magnavox tv's, and philips/magnavox still had a respectable number. and to be honest if consumer reports read the threads in the avs i think sony would have finished on top with sharp, samsung, and philips coming in second and toshiba with it's green push following them. consumer reports made toshiba a best buy and i have yet to see a toshiba that didn't try to turn everything green. they are still using same processor chip. just my opinion, tom.

i forgot to metion that sharp has the largest lcd plant and sells to many manufacturers, which will include sony starting this year. also 3:2 pulldown is what most are using to deal with 24p/Hz. the only real difference in their effectiveness, is how well the processor performs the function. but from what i have read all the 120Hz sets perform this function very well. it seems to be the one thing it really improves. in my opinion the 2ms response coupled with the 120Hz should make a bigger difference to motion blur not to be confused with judder. cnet has some good articles on this. tom.
