OK, I finally got in but I see 7 commands on the left-side, from SERVICE to SRV-TOOL. To the right are a bunch of technical things with numbers next to them, including PEAKS SOFT 1.190 first and PDP PDROM 41.40 last. 8 other combos between them.

Anyone familiar with this set-up and where can I find HOURS OF OPERATION ?

I have a TH-42PX80U that lost sound yesterday. I have the cable box connected to the TV through a HDMI cable and have the audio outs from the TV going to a home entertainment system. I can hear the sound through the home entertainment system but not through just the TV's speakers. I also have a DVD player hooked up to the TV and there is no sound when playing a DVD through just the TV, so I think it's something in the TV.

Does anyone have an estimate as to know how much a "repair" would cost? I could just continue using the home entertainment system, but it does not have a remote with mute, etc, so using the TV's sound system is more convenient for general TV watching.

That would probably cost twice as much as buying a soundbar.

Are you sure the "Speaker Output" is on in the audio settings in the menu?

That which may be known of God is evident within man, for God has shown it to them, so that they are without excuse. (Romans 1:19-20)

Here's a link to the service manual. Look for section 5 for SM access. I saw the hour count in there.
