I just spoke with Chris. I'm pretty sure he plans on selling all his sets so you'll probably have to wait for someone to get theirs from him. He's already got a few orders shipping out. I'm waiting on the 50" and that might drop by the weekend.

Thanks for the news. Definitely disappointing, but understandable.

I might just have to order one from Chris But seriously I am glad we will get some feedback soon.

The greatest part of this news is that FINALLY an 800 series model is available for purchase! This is the first confirmation I've had that it won't end up being June before we can buy them.

Aside from that, I'm really surprised the 46" came out first.

I almost bought one today, even though I really want a 50"...

EDIT: By available for purchase, I mean ACTUALLY IN STOCK. I have the feeling Big River was selling them before they had any.

Actually, I'm a bit surprised that no one like HDGuru was sent advance models to review... or at least they haven't admitted to it yet. Perhaps they're not allowed to say they have one until after it launches.

I saw this morning the 50PZ800U is gone off of CC's web site. I wonder what's up with that? I had a instore credit I used towards a 50PZ85U along with a AAA 8% coupon and was thinking about exchanging it for a 800U because I could use the same credit and coupon to drop the price down.

I have until Monday to decide if I want to keep my 50PZ85U. At least I hope I have till then. I'm going off the delivery date which is a week later than the purchase date (none were in stock) so I hope I still have time to decide

How is the sound system on the 800U? Is it equal to, or better than last years 700/750 series?

Have you run into any sound problems on the 80U or 85U?

Have not run in to any sound issues on the 80U or 85U. Have not tested a 800U yet

Thanks Chris, if you do get a chance to test the sound on any of those three models in a totally quiet room (like a living room in your house), and try the sound at 15,20,25, 30 and let me know what you think? That would be kewl, if not I understand. - Prime time shows, the news/weather, Wheel of Fortune, etc.

It looks like the exact same audio set up as the 700/750 which I thought was very good for an integrated system.

I think its great to be the first on the block to have the 800U's, but give it a few months and they will be everywhere! No stress right now...

Amazon has it listed as "In Stock". Now if we could just get them to reduce their price. Congrats to those that got it at $2499. I am disappointed I didn't pull the trigger then

I just checked and it is not showing in stock at amazon. it's one of their marketplace vendors who has it in stock. you sure you saw it at amazon and not one of them?

Best Buy is showing 50pz800u as in stock with "select preferred store availability," whatever that means. I checked delivery dates and its showing first available date for delivery as May 1.

That's the button you press to select which store you'll pick it up from. It says Availible in Most Stores above it. Unfortunately, this means that it's on its way to most stores and is now an active item rather than they have active stock. The select prefered store avail button then tells you which stores have quantities of them.

Since the TV is in the system and listed on the website you could go to the local store, buy it, and then pick it up from your local Best Buy warehouse if it's close. That's for those who can't wait!

I actually just saw the 50pz800 on display for the first time at Best Buy in south Philadelphia. I asked the guy when they got it in and he said that they had it in the back since March 23, and that they just put it on display for sale like yesterday. I must say, it looks REALLY good.

TBH I didn't really pay attention to the glass design, moreso looking at the picture quality. The sales guy said he didn't notice much of a difference between the 80 and the 800, but he must have been blind lol.

I'm no expert, but the picture quality looked fantastic. Deep and detailed blacks and a smooth/non-grainy picture. The 80 unit did have noticeable grain, but it could be the feed....

The THX certification is only on the Z800U. The Z850U has a studio reference mode that is set to specifications used by film editing in Hollywood studios. The THX certification (in my opinion) is a great tool to be used by the average Joe Consumer. This is an independent group testing the specifications of the set to meet their standards. THX has long been looked at for sound specifications and I always noticed the difference when entering a THX certified theater for sound. Now the video specifications should be just as good. I am happy that Lucas has expanded to video for specifications. Remember he started the revolution for quality audio standards in all movie theaters!
Most people don't understand contrast and levels of gradation...they just want a great looking set for home. This will make it easy for them. As for me...I can't wait for some reviews by new owners. I am expecting great things from these two sets and am waiting for reduced pricing before "pulling the trigger" as it were. Thanks for the posts guys and congrats on your recent purchases.

Looking forward to reading more....

I saw the 50pz800U today at ABT. I'm debating on pulling the trigger on the 58pz700u verses waiting for the 58 models of this new 800 series to come out later this year.

I was interested in seeing the 'one sheet of glass design' to see if would sway me one way or the other. It's hard to describe and I don't think it's that big a deal. Still has a black frame all around the picture, but instead of picture being inset about a quarter inch like current models, the screen is completely flush with the black frame.

It wasn't something that really jumped out at me, I was looking for it and I had to point out the difference to my wife. I had her put her finger in the corner of the picture to show her what I meant. In the current models you can clearly rest your finger in the corner, with the new design you can't.

I believe the speakers are on the bottom of this set.

Still can't decide, both had a great picture. It was hard to compare directly since they weren't next to each other and its hard comparing a 58 to a 50.
