He already said that so far he prefers Movie mode. I believe Chadmak09 also
says he prefers Movie mode over Optimum. In fact, he seems to be envious
of the few 151 owners. It's all subjective, mind you, but still, Chadmak09 used
to have a 5080 from what I remember, so he knows what he's missing.

On the higher channels (above about 100), the bars are black and the tv does the stretch no problem. On the lower channels the bars are gray and the stretch doesn't happen. Is there a workaround for this?

Don't know for sure, but on our cable system the "lower channels" are regular SD and "upper channels" are digital; but when the digital channels are sending SD material the side bars are "added" by the broadcaster.

The TV believes it is receiving HD (it is) so it has no reason to stretch the screen...

At least that how it works for us.... YMMV

Really? If that is the case, then the 6020 is a winner, its 25% cheaper then the 151 and I was pretty damn happy with the calibration settings of my 5080.

Yes so far I prefer movie mode with D-nice's settings.
I am impressed with optimum mode also. I love engaging the optimum performance feature and sitting there watching the settings adjust according to all of the factors. If you watch it long enough you kind of get an idea of what the software will do in certain circumstances (bright scenes, dark scenes,etc.). Its pretty cool.
And yes, Nambit is correct,
I am wondering if I should have gotten the 151 instead of the 6020. the loss of settings hurts. But the 6020 is the best display I have ever seen in my life so far. It is flat out amazing! But I think to myself "If the 6020 looks this good without all the features/settings of the elite, I wonder just how awesome the 151 is going to look?"
And at the same time I am starting to see all of the pictures being posted the last couple of days of the 151 and man it makes my mouth water. lol.
I bought the Digital video essentials BDROM on amazon and it should be delivered tomorrow. I will be running it this week on my 6020.
I will post my settings after I do that.

I think your the 2nd person to say this. Not that it looks dull outputting a 480i signal, just that it looks better when the oppo outputs 1080i. (that was from the last poster).

Anyway, D-Nice mentioned that it would be best to have the player output 480i via HDMI unaltered and let the Pioneer do the upconversion.

At the same time, if you like the way it looks more with the oppo doing the work, then by all means continue to use it that way.

The question I had for the last poster was why did it look better to him. I had a list of things such as,

Brighter does not always mean better,
Sharper does not always mean better,
Contrasty does not always mean better.

What can contribute to a better picture is what looks more natural. End the end, it's up to you. However it would be nice if someone had some tests as to what's better. I think D-Nice may get around to that if he has time.

I believe the Pioneer shows everything at 1080p. It's the native format of the display.

Ours is the same way...analog on the lower end and digital on the higher. But what you're saying should be opposite of what it was doing...the digital channels were stretching no problem. The analog weren't.

Actually I found what so far seems to work. In the setup menu, I set the side mask detection to Mode 2 instead of the default Mode 1 and it seems to pick them up now. No clue what possible negatives changing this has though.

D-Nice's review should be up around the latter part of this week. He said he had to do a week of break-in first and then he could review it.

Break-in will be completed today. I'll start full testing tonight. I want to be very thorough in my review, so I will post it no later than Thursday night.

Does that sound fair to you guys?

What are you doing at night, sleeping or something? I'll forgive you for the delay if your review confirms that I made a good purchase decision. If you are going to tell me anything that will give me doubts about my 6020, keep it to yourself!

Does anyone here actually have their 5020 up an running? To be precise, has anyone been using their 5020 for more than a few days?

What are your thoughts, comments, regrets, etc..?

Thanks.

I've only had the 6020 for one night, and there is nothing anyone can say thats going to make me doubt the purchase. It's far and away the best panel I've ever owned. Now as for getting the most out of it, well I'll be hanging on D-Nice's every word.

My Kuro snuck up on me while I was at work!

Delivery was supposed to be between noon and five, but the shipping company was able to deliver it at nine this morning!

I was planning on coming home for lunch and working from home the rest of the day, but fortunately, my wife was able to be home and take the early delivery. As recommended, she signed "subject to inspection." She says the box has a small dent and a partially torn open flap (she noted both by her signature), but says it didn't look to bad. No tire-tracks or forklift prong impressions.

Ughhhhh...the suspense is KILLING me!

Hopefully I'll be able to bail out on work a bit early today. . .I'll try to post some pictures tonight or tomorrow, but other than cheating a bit tonight (heck, if D-Nice can do it, I figured why not? ), I plan on observing a strict break-in routine.

AAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! AAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Sadly no time to properly set it up right now, need to go back to work. Didn't even set up the sound bar, just wanted to make sure the screen turns on.
