Nope. Shipping was delayed by the trucking company. I should receive it on Friday....start the 150-hour break-in.....then being the review on 6/12 (two days later than I hoped).

That sucks. I'm awaiting your review on this as well as calibrations, etc. I've been a forum member for many years and never post on here.

Love the write up you had on the 8g. Hopefully no more delays for you.

I appreciate everyone's concerns! My stand is rated for 180 lbs, so I think I'll be okay. Two points people brought up:

-I do know that wood is more practical, but I've wanted a glass stand forever, since both my parents are of the 'hide all equipment' mindset and changing wires and connections for them has been a PITA my whole life. I've always wanted a glass stand with massive space in the back to easily swap components at will, and now I have it!

-The blu-tac on the wall isn't for mount points. They just mark out screen area so I can fantasize about when my Kuro gets in w/o messing around with massive sheets of cardboard

If I do go busto and have a hideous accident, I promise you guys will be the first to get disaster scene shots so you can tell me "I told you so".

It's really hard to tell who can or can't tolerate the noise level. I will try to see if i can go check out a 8g and compare the difference.

Will try to report back ASAP.

Hope to get my room done tonight so i can play with it more!

Have fun.
Thanks for the info.
No need to try and compare as there will not be a store that has low enough ambient noise where you can hear a plasma buzz.

Sound like your buzz is minimal and basically non-existent beyond 8 feet and not an issue at all with any volume at all.

Enjoy the set and tell us what the picture is like.

D-Nice,

Was the buzz issue seen only in 8G non elites or was it seen in both elites and non-elites?

Don't know. I never really paid attention to the "buzz poll" that owners had. My Elite did not buzz abnormally.

Both ...

121 posts in an owners thread and we've actually had 2 owners post something ??? Why is all this garbage here when there is a discussion thread for 9Gs already? And numerous 8G threads (including a dedicated buzz thread) to answer this question. Maybe this thread shouldn't have been started until an actual owner who wished to share his observations desired to do so. MODS ???

All plamas buzz. If you can't hear your panel buzzing in a dead silent room, then you may have lost some hearing capabilites in the fequency range that panel buzz exist.

6020 has just arrived and I have installed it and I am now running break-in DVD with D-Nice's settings. Thanks D!
D-Nice, I can't find those setting for Picture Detail and Color Detail that you recommended for 8G. Are they not present on non-Elite 6020? I understand its OK to break-in with default setting as well but please advise.
So far I am amazed with the quality of HD channels in Optimum mode. I didn't have enough time to play with it. Yes it buzzes and it's quite warm if you are close to the screen. I will hook it up to a home network and will let you know how it plays movies from my extended library soon here are some pics

D-nice is the below information correct? I thought I read that you would be able to turn off the NR in the Service Menu? I trying to decide between the 5010 and 5020 but if the below information is fact, then I think I will just keep the 5010.

"It wasn't because of the ethernet port being added........

Golden rule of business: NEVER give your customer a feature and then take it away at a later date.

It seems as if Pioneer NA had a focus group regarding the non-Elite (probably the same dumbasses that Consumer Reports uses). Out of said focus group, a "grip" with the 8G non-Elites was that it had too many picture setting controls for the average user.

So Pioneer NA decided to create a simplified A/V menu (similar to pre-Kuro). The items listed as "No menu items for these functions" were considered "least user friendly". So, each A/V picture mode will have these features turned on in some fashion. Here is how they will be setup:"

A/V Mode ---- DRE --- Black Level --- ACL --- Enhancer --- Gamma --- CTI

Dynamic------ High ------- On ------- On ------- 2 ---------- 2 ------ On
Performance-- Mid -------- On ------- On ------- 2 ---------- 2 ------ On
Movie-------- Off -------- On ------- Off ------- 2 ---------- 1 ------ On
Sports------- Mid -------- On ------- On ------- 2 ---------- 2 ------ On
Game-------- Off -------- Off ------- Off ------- 2 ---------- 2 ------ On
Standard----- Mid ------- On ------- On ------- 2 ---------- 2 ------ On

The NR features are on for every A/V mode. Optimum mode changes these settings depending on what the light/color sensor detects. Also, there is no way in the SM to adjust these features.

Congrats. The picture detail and color detail menus no longer exist on the non-Elites. However, you still should have a "Color Temp" selection.

Here we should see posts ONLY from:

2 - People who are asking those owners questions
3 - People who are commenting or asking questions on the above posts

But, why do I even try? .... It's like herding cats. Now I'll probably have to suffer more off-topic posts admonishing me for my off-topic post. And the beat goes on ....

Ok, just got the Kuro setup. Let me just say the picture is amazing. Remember I am coming from an HP 5880n DLP, which I thought looked great, as did everyone of my friends. This picture takes HD to the next level. Even SD channels look great. For some reason the TV looks a lot bigger than the old 5880n, maybe because it sits higher.
I don't have a blueray player but DVD's look great on my Panasonic S97 upconverted to 1080i. The detail is simply amazing.
Now for the pics.

Enjoy. If you want anything specific, let me know. The pics were taken with a Canon SD870is 8.0 megapixel camera.
