Where is local? The best calibrators generally do tours.

And what price? I can't remember what D-Nice charged me it's been so long.
D-Nice was doing almost all tour calibrations for $300 a few months ago. If you don't know how to contact him for up to date information, then PM turbe who can probably help you with contact or price information.

Does anyone know if D-Nice comes to Canada? I'd love for him to calibrate my ZT60 and touch up my Pro 101fd!

^^^Same here, would hire D-Nice again for myself and be a part of that tour up here in Toronto again. Hope he's considering the Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto again. My Pro-111 needs a touch up and my ZT60 65inch needs it first calibration

I think we just need to be patient and he will soon announce that tour once again for us north of the border.

Is there a set (or sets) of calibrations that KURO owners prefer? Is calibrating my Pro-111 something that I can do??
I did a recalibration of my Pro-111FD last week. Setting don't often transfer well, but if you want to try them, here they are:

0 Tint
-15 Sharpness

Black Lvl Off
ACL. Off
Enhancer 1
Gamma 2

CTI Off
Color Space 2

Displays are like 100% cotton t-shirts. Always buy a size larger than you think you'll need, as they tend to shrink over time.

After reading a little bit more and looking at things again, I'm just going to leave it be. If anything has changed over the years (and move), it's probably been minimal and not worth the $$$. I appreciate your help.

I have a Kuro pro 111FD.

Bought New 2008.
question- what is the life span?
How long can we expect these Kuros Plasmas will last?
I run it- on average- about 5-6 hours a day.

From what i read about the 4K's...the Plasma tech is better...(?)
If I could I would buy a plasma now and keep in the basement, but I live in an apartment- so it ain't going to happen.

I love the Kuro and fear the day it finally craps out on me.

If your estimate is correct then you have about 12,000 hours on your set. That was calculated at 5 hours a day for 6.5 years. At that rate your set will still produce at least half of it's new brightness for another 50 years. Of course there is no way to predict when an electronic failure will kill your set, but until that happens you should be able to have your set calibrated to near new picture quality for years to come.

Have you ever had your Kuro professionally calibrated?

50 years. Nice.

I applied some basic out-of-the-box tweaks from settings posted here years ago.
Picture still looks fantastic- Maybe a pro calibrate in the future.

Thanks

Fifty years only refers to expected brightness. No one has ever had the chance to prove it.

If you get one of the outstanding calibrators that are active here at AVS it should make you feel like you have a new plasma.

You can contact turbe or use the link in the signature area at the bottom of my post for calibrators who come to your area on tours. You can also contact Kevin Miller. Kevin has an outstanding reputation and you can read some of his customer comments using the other link in my signature area.

I can vouch for Kevin Miller. He's been to my house twice to calibrate Kuro's and has been nothing but professional.
His calibration is top notch and you'd be hard pressed to find better.

My life is set at reference level.

Kevin Miller calibrated my PRO-111 twice, most recently a year ago. It still looks crisp, the color is great, and, as they say, no complaints. I recommend him as well.

Hi; Had my Pro 141 calibrated by D-NICE several years ago and as expected he did a fantastic job. The picture looked amazing. I had to put my Pro 141 in storage for a couple of years but recently completed my setup in my new home. The picture quality still looks amazing except I find that when in ISF modes, black bars look grey? Any idea why this is happening?
Thanks; pcarel

I thought you pretty much always turn off DRE when trying to properly calibrate the set, isn't that the case? I turn on DRE for gaming but always turned it off for movie/pure modes, maybe I should try it out more.

In ISF day, I leave it off, in Pure it helps improve shadow detail.

Thanks for replying, I assume you wouldn't go more than "Low" right?

I haven't unlocked the ISF modes for my KRP yet, figured it's not worth the hassle until I get some good calibration hardware instead of the regular calibration patterns discs that I own now, is it really worth it over pure mode?

I'm thinking about buying PRO 111FD I found in my local craigslist Is the kuro elite series really that better compared to THX-certified Vieras G10 and G20 that I currently own, or it's just merely a sidegrade?

Its better than Panasonic's most recent (and discontinued) top of the line plasma televisions and absolutely crushes your current sets.

It's insane that these sets continue to outshine most (if not all) of the flat panel TVs out on the market six years later. Definitely one of the best purchases I ever made.

The G10 came out at about the same time that the Pro-111FD (2008 if I recall), and was touted as having LCD-level brightness, which of course it didn't.

If everything in the Pro-111FD is in order - and you should always insist the seller demonstrate it so you can check for IR and dead pixels before you buy - it will bury the Pannies.

Hope all is well, and that you get a phenomenal HDTV!!

I love mine.

Yes. Mine has been functioning well since I got it. Getting an ISF calibration was a definite boost as well. I'm still pleased, six years later!
