I realize that D-Nice is "only one person." My interest in his opinion was based on his knowledge of OLEDs current "issues" and that's why I wanted to know where he stood on today's OLEDs. Now I know. But I also wrote that in my opinion the blacks not only EQUAL THE KURO...they SURPASS THE KURO (D-Nice agrees with that) and it really is an issue with me. So, if my KURO were to die this afternoon I'd be in the market for an OLED tomorrow!

Another variable in this equation is SIZE. I have wanted a larger display for at least two years now, preferably a 70-80". So that's another reason I'm not truly satisfied with my KURO. I do sit as close as I can (I sit 7.5' away so I can still enjoy my sound system), but I'm still not getting the immersive experience I long for.

Same response as the last page.

"if you feel OLED is a huge improvement over the kuro and satisfies your needs better for dark viewing, then buy it."

That's all there is too it.

I am still enjoying my 500M, 600M, and Panasonic 65ZT60.

That said, the 2K LG OLEDs looked very good under Best Buy showroom lights.
Something that no Plasma every achieved. IMO, this was the kiss of death.

The LG 77 inch 4K HDR display may turn my head after I see how it does in the shootout.
At that price, it must be accurate after calibration (and close before).

Size is another need for many and i can understand that. Especially 50" kuro owners. I'm fine with 60" at 7' to 8'. I have no trouble being immersed. But yeah, me too eventually would love a bigger size. I just can't give up the kuro PQ yet.

So, my Pro 111fd had the 8 blinking light drama going on. I started researching other TV's and was sad that there didn't seem to be anything out there that was a viable replacement. After a lot of reading, I opened up the panel removed the main board and the audio board, sent them off to Kcrownie on EBay and now my KURO is back to normal. Hopefully it will last until OLED becomes a more mature and cost effective option.

Just found Kuro ELITE Pro 150 on craigslist and i'm tempted to buy it.

Is there really a nite & day difference between 150 and 151 besides the remote? The website Sound&Vision tested Pro 150 and their pre-evaluation test says the display is capable of displaying 0.001 black. Does that mean 150 and 151 both have same black levels?

Let me preface this by saying that I've never seen an 8th generation Kuro in person but from what I have heard, Pioneer made a huge jump from 8th to 9th gen. However, I also heard that the 8th gen sets don't get red tint and can be tweaked for lower black level.

Is Pro 150 not affected by 9th gen. red tint blacks?

I've had a 9th generation PRO-151 for 7 years (I probably average 5 hours of viewing a day) and I still don't have the "red tint."

craigyboy,

You can think whatever you want, but I agree with the posts above. qwknuf6 has 22k hours on it with NO RED TINT! I must have at the very least 10,000 hours and still NO RED TINT. Would you feel better if we did have it?

Get ready for the non believers telling you that you do have the red tint. I've never seen people so adamant in making others believe their kuros have it. For ever person that has the red tint, i can find an equal amount or more that say they don't.

Sorry yours is affected, but mine is in tip top shape.

It never ceases to amaze me when people dogmatically tell you that something is true of your display when IT ISN'T TRUE!! I guess they illustrate the old proverb, "Misery loves company." They are MISERABLE and THEY WANT US TO BE MISERABLE TOO.

The only problem I ever had with my KURO was last year when it powered down and wouldn't power up again. I ended up taking it to a Service Center and they replaced the main Power Board and it works "good as new." That set me back $600 but I thought it was worth it for the KURO still has an amazing picture with "near perfect" black levels and colors that "pop." And as you have stated before, it has a very "natural-looking" picture.

I think some get the impression that every kuro will get it because you have owners posting about it in one place. That can make it seem that way, but it's not the case.

Natural is exactly it. I was just watching a movie on HDnet with Marilyn Monroe and there might as well been a 35mm projector behind me. 4K and OLED can wait. Too spoiled by the kuro.

Besides, it's been confirmed that 4K blurays played on a 1080p tv looks better than the same bluray. So maybe i'll be fine with that until i feel the kuro can truly be replaced.

Hey Les,

Good to hear from you!

My KURO wouldn't "power up" last year so I called Pioneer and they were pretty sure it was the main Power Board. Sure enough, it was. The replacement was $600, but I felt justified spending that much because at that time the repairmen said, "I would hold off on OLEDs for we are seeing more of them come through our shop than any other display technology." I'm not hearing about that "poor reliability" any more so if my Power Board dies again I'm jumping on the OLED bandwagon (or possibly getting the Sony 940c 75" LCD/LED so I can get the larger size I've been craving).
