It seemed more button presses were necessary than before and more scrolling. Those of you familiar with the 8g remotes, was it me not pressing the right button or is this the case?

From what I've experienced so far, it is definitely more work. I'll see if there are any shortcuts once I flip through the manual

Wow... I have officially gone "black" (so I'll never go back???). Yesterday I got a 5010 and ordered a 151 to be delivered thursday. I'll try to post pictures, but I'll focus more on the me watching the TV I am ready.

P.S. I can hear buzz on the 5010 (using D-Nice reference settings) when there isn't much sound (at 10 feet), but it doesn't bother me.

P.P.S Will the 151 use the 8g settings. I know this has been asked, but I don't pay attention to those.

What is dead can never die. Long live my 151!

Are you kidding me?

If mine ends up buzzing so loud that it interferes with the quiet parts of a suspenseful movie (e.g., Alien, Signs, etc...), it is going right back to the store.

Not everyone watches movies like Twister and Jurassic Park all day to cover up a loud mosquito-like unit.

If I wanted constant buzzing, I would go camping in June when the skeeters are in full force.

If you go to the first page of D-Nice's "official 9G discussion thread" you will see the features for both the elite and the non-ellite.
One of the main reasons I am thinking of getting an elite is becasue the 5020/6020 (non-elite's) have been changed this year. They lost alot of adjustment features that the elites have. There is not much room to tweak the 5020/6020 at all. Most features like NR, DRE,BLack level, etc. are still there with the non-elites, But they are hard coded iinto different picture modes in different ways now. You cannot change them at all.
The elites give you much more freedom to tweak the set now. With the 6020/5020 you have to find a mode that you like (which will probably be movie mode) and stick to it.

Dude, how many panels are you going to go through before you keep one?

I'm the same way, that's why I went with the Elite to begin with.

because you can get an Elite from one of the avs forum sponsors for a great price and the same $1k difference. some of the b&m retailers had them earlier than forum sponsors and some buyers choose to buy locally and pay extra to get that 30 day return policy in case they have the buzz issue, pixel problems or other issues.

Hate to admit but most of the B&M stores had them first, happens pretty much every year

If the 6020 had the same features that the 6010 had I would be totally content with my 6020.
I was not aware of the loss of picture controls when I ordered the 6020. I figured that the 6020 would have all the same features of the 6010 and then maybe even more. I would have never thought for a minute that Pioneer would take away features like color temp, NR, Black level, etc. But its my fault for not looking into it more i know.
If the differences between the elites and non-elites were the same as they were with the 8G's, I would be happy with a non-elite.

I got my 151 Saturday. Here's pictures of the before and after:

Before:

After:

So far no problems (knock on wood).
- One big observation was the buzzing which I was the most concerned about. I find that the fan on my PS3 is 10 times louder than any buzz I have detected, even on a full white screen.
- I also have found that the best picture mode depends on the movie you watch. I loved Optimum mode - watched 10,000BC and it was awesome. I watched 2001 on Movie mode it it was awesome.
- Also, I found the best way to install the speakers is to mount the display first.

I will post new observations as I come across them.

Wow, what a transformation! I had a massive RPTV like that too and I was tempted to buy an entertainment center just like that one. I'm sure glad I didn't.

I bet you and the wife are much happier with how the new setup looks. The room probably feels twice as big.

Perhaps over time one can just get used to it sort of like living in an airport landing zone, highway or school zone or playing X360 which can make alot of noise but you get used to it while gaming after awhile and you don't notice it unless everthing else becomes silent.

Then again there are folks that certainly would never live in any such noise zone or tolerate getting used to it and perhaps those are the folks speaking up despite the perceived Kuro fans PQ perfection the other half of HT can leave some disappointed where sound brings the other half the equation.

You are 100% correct. Pioneer adjusted the firing order on the 8Gs specifically to reduce the panel oscillation and again this year to further reduce the glass's frequency pattern so it has a smaller footprint and reduced oscillation.

Very nice abscene of wires.

This is standing out for me as my installation looks like an explosion at a spagetti factory.

So you are going to sell your 6020 and buy a 151? I know what you are saying about the picture controls though. After the many posts on here about the loss of controls I was well aware of what I was losing with my 6010 and it's more frustrating than I realized it would be. As much as I'd like to return my TV and get an Elite, I'm just going to do my best to make it with what I have and IMO next year would be the year to spend the extra $ on getting an Elite with perfect blacks and 5 lumen technology. I do however think there will be a bigger difference this year in the Elites over the non-Elites this year than what there was last year.

I wonder if the height of the TV and if someone has one wall mounted has any affect at all on this (in addition to room acoustics). My 6020 is wallmounted and when I put in a BD disc I noticed I heard a slight buzz when my head was below the TV but when I raised up and my head was at the level of my Kuro the buzz sound went away. I can hear it buzz on bright scenes but if the volume is turned up I never noticed it at all.

I'm leaning in that direction too. I'm fairly well satisfied with my 6070 and if I'm going to upgrade, it'll be to get absolute blacks which should be available next year. Then the question becomes Elite or non Elite. That can only be answered after they're released and we get the lowdown on their feature set and performance.

What's going to be a tough decision is if Panasonic, Toshiba or any of the other heavy hitters come out with a panel that has the same performance as the Pioneer, yet has all the controls available in the user menu at the price of the non Elite. Eventually, I think we all know that we'll get there, but probably not next year.

It does seem like the room is twice as big. I worked on getting it set-up a (little bit everyday after work) for several weeks (you can see the plywood panel behind the entertainment center in the "Before" picture). But in my mind I knew that it would make a big difference. We can now see the fireplace from the kitchen - before all we saw was the huge entertainment center. So I definitely recommend staying away from the entertainment center and mount it if you can.

I used the Peerless ST670. It was slightly above $100 and could be mounted to three studs. Here's the link:

http://www.bestpricemounts.com/

Click on "Plasma and LCD Mounts" and on the "Mount Wizard", you find it by choosing the 150FD (151 is still not loaded yet).

I know several others on the forum recommend it as well. I could not find anything for less that had as much positive reviews.

I wanted to make sure not to mount the bottom of the Display too close to the top of the center speaker. In my mind it would have defeated the purpose of showing off the "clean/no-wires" look. As it stands, the bottom of the display is about 42" from the floor. The Mount is a tilt type, so I put a slight tilt (maybe 2 degrees down). It works out fine for us. Besides, we are the type of movie-goers that like to sit very close to the screen and look-up.

But you were fore-warned about the lack of controls, etc. on the non-Elites. If you go back to your early threads, you'll see that D-Nice and others had explained all this very carefully long before you decided to order. If my memory serves me correctly, you stated that you were not really interested in tweaking your TV that much anyway, and the price difference of the Elites were not worth the extra price for self calibration or professional calibration for that matter. Why not just enjoy the great TV you have now, and forget this "buyers remorse" stuff? There's always something better being released, and if you want to upgrade then all it takes is money to do so.

Well Ive had my set for about three days now and I am totally BLOWN AWAY!! I went from an xbr4 to a 1150 to a 110 to finally the best of them all... the 111! I honestly did not expect to see a much improved 110 in the 111 untill I got this panel at home. IMHO it has, all due respect to the amazing 110, surpassed it in every critical area: BLACKS, BRIGHTNESS, DETAIL, PICTURE DEPTH, and oh yeah BLACKS!

I cant forget to mention just how much smoother it appears to be also. Like D-Nice said of the 6020 theres a "creamy smoothness" about these 9gs that make the picture look flawless. Your truly seeing images as they are, to the piont were theres a feeling of intimacy between you and the image due to just how life like and 3D they appear. The 110 I previously owned certainly achieved this to an extent but the 111 without question took it to a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL!

Untill the 10g's come out I dont anticipate ANYTHING, including the xbr8, touching the 9g Elites in terms of overall PQ. And Im sure it wont be long before any professional reviewer solidifies this statement.

As I sit and enjoy this amazing set I can say without a doubt that I dont have a single regret about returning my 110 and enduring a wait for the 111, which actually turned out to be a MUCH shorter wait than expected, becuase after having both sets I can honestly say the differences are NOT marginal and worth the upgrade. In the end with the 10% BB coupon as well as $150 in reward pionts, I saved myself $1500 by chosing to wait for the 111 since at the time I bought my 110 they were still at $5999.98 (at least at BB they were). That extra money in my pocket was probably the best incentive of all and oh yeah guess where some of that $ is going to... thats right a Pioneer BD-05

Not everyone watches movies like Twister and Jurassic Park all day to cover up a loud mosquito-like unit.

If I wanted constant buzzing, I would go camping in June when the skeeters are in full force.

I don't blame you. I buy my PDPs from the local B&M's and if there is anything wrong (or I just don't like) with my multi-thousand $ investment during the first 30 days... back to the store it goes.

luvnhateSony, congrats on your new Pioneer, and hope you'll post more of your comparisons. Also interested in reading about your upcoming Pio BD Player and what special benefits you noticed w/the integration of the two. I've been mulling over this whole new Pioneer concept of combining and integrating all components in the HT for the SC-07 + BD05 + FD151 = ????... I await Robert's plasma shootout in July!
