I find this particularly good for movies, but not so great for 1080i sources like regular TV watching. Some channels have weird lines that are displayed around the edges, almost like distortion or data lines and a "Full" setting as opposed to dot by dot gets rid of that problem because of the overscan.

Ah, so this is one of those settings that I'd probably have set differently for different inputs. I still haven't applied your settings to my cable box input . . . my family was over this weekend and we were watching some baseball, and they thought the "Sport" mode looked best. It was so oversaturated with green, but I left it on that mode for them. I love the Pure with your settings for movies.

Thanks for your clarification.

No problem! I look forward to D-Nice's settings simply because he has the proper electronics to be able to get an accurate reading, which in turn allows him to do a proper calibration. Mine was all just done by eye.

A calibrated image undoubtably looks the best in my opinion, but no matter what way we spin it, the preset modes like "Sport" give more of a pop and a wow factor initially.

I will never personally use any of those settings and I have trained all my personal friends and family what to look for so they can appreciate a calibrated image as well.

This question is for D-Nice,
D-nice,
When you do your work up and review of the 111, could you maybe do some lumination/brightness measurements between powersave "off" and powersave "mode2"??

I would like to know just how much of a brightness difference there really is between the two modes and if the 9G's are as bright as an 8G when the 9G has powersave mode2 engaged.
I think alot of people are worried that setting the powercontrol to mode2 will cause a big decease in brightness, yet others say they have a hard time telling the difference.

I would like to know your opinion as to if powersave mode2 will harm the PQ that much or if its a very minor brightness difference.

Thanks man!

Also, I have always wanted to ask you this. Did you name your screen name after the rapper from the 90's "D-Nice" who had the song "my name is D-Nice"? lol. Or is it a coincidence? I have always wondered that.
Here is a clip of the D-Nice rapper I am talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UuFHMnWMRo

The philosophy holds true with all products, the people who are happy do not go out of their way to share their feelings. People who have problems have a lot more visibility because they complain. For every 1 person who complains on this forum about buzz or stuck pixels, there are probably 30 people who get a Pioneer panel and are perfectly happy with it. Still sucks if your that 1 though.

Especially when you consider the MSRP for one of these beauties starts @ $4000 which IMO, is not exactly "chump change" for most individuals.

I don't agree with the theroy that happy people don't post on forums. Most of them speak directly with sales at the point of purchase and don't know about these forums. Now if the points of purchase also posted the numbers might make more sense.

Either way it is all speculation and there is no way to generate numbers on good and bad product based on who does or doesn't post.

I know most of my family and friends come to me when they have issues with tech products and never post a thing. I think you would be surprised how many people do not know what online forum resources there are available. God must of the sellers of high tech equipment don't know about it.

Also not everyone who reads these forums post. I know I was a lurker for a long time before I started posting. I don't know the statistical break down, but my wife (IT specialist for the government) says that complaints always dwarf any positive feedback. I think a lot of times the internet is used for problem solving mostly. For example, your new tv doesn't display a specific type of content correctly, you look it up on line, and find out the problem is a design flaw, and then get mad and start posting on forums. On the other hand, if your tv works, you are probably watching it and don't care. I do agree with what others have said though, this forum is only a small sub-section of the general tv buying public. There is no way to get an accurate assessment of dysfunctional displays from this forum unless vendors start posting there return numbers. Having said all that, I will post my experiences with the 151 as soon as I get it this week. Thanks to all those who do post their positive experiences.

IMHO- I think it is absolutely true that people are far more likely to go to the internet (and post) when they have a problem that when everything is working perfectly.

However, to contradict this theory and my opinion (to some degree), I have to post my brief experience with the 151.

I got my 151 on last Thurs, got it up on the wall and hooked up on Friday. Thus far, I have run the break-in slides (via AppleTV) for about 30 hours and I interspersed about 10-15 hours of regular programming (virtually all full-screen) and a few minutes of Blu-ray discs. The PQ is spectacular, I haven't been able to find any bad pixels (I REALLY hope that I didn't just jinx myself) and the buzzing (thus far) has been only noticeable from very close to the screen and in my case I might refer to it more as a electric hum than a buzz (hoping this continues to be the case).

Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of time to go thru and attempt to calibrate using the Blu-ray DVE HD Basics disc, so late last night I just threw in Aetherhole's settings - thanks Aetherhole. I am hoping to have time to use the HD Basics disc this weekend, though it may be easier to just wait until D-nice (graciously) posts his reference settings for the Elites and then do the tweaking (if necessary) from there.

Thanks to D-Nice, Robert and all the other AVSers who have posted valuable info on this forum, it's much appreciated.

Now, if I could just get around to taking some pictures...

I bought my 151 using my Costco AE so I am going to assume the warranty is now 3 years.

FYI, for anyone interested, the Culver City, Ca Costco still has some 5010's for sale at $2599.. These have the Costco 2 Year warranty on them.

Gotta watch out about these warranty doubling features on credit cards.

Why? It doesn't improve upon the manufacturer's warranty at all. It just doubles the length of that same coverage. If you're happy with that coverage, that's fine.

Just keep in mind you're not adding new coverage to it. You're getting build quality and fit and finish from the factory.

Whee! I just got my 151FD yesterday evening. Out of the box, at least, everything seems perfect -- I don't really hear any buzz, no stuck or dead pixels... I still need to tweak some of the settings, but I'm really, really happy with it so far.

Could someone post the dimensions of the 151's box? Or is posted on Pio's website?

Thanks!

I use to be a DJ and got tired of using my DJ name on the internet (specifically IRC). So I decided to use his name as an alias (plus the D is the first initial of my name).

Just spoke to a bunch of dealers nationwide and the 111FD's should be available everywhere, still small QTY's. Hope this is a good sign for the 151's to come.

I have read this forum with great enjoyment for a few weeks and finally received my new Elite 151 today. Purchased from BB and had their "Geek Squad" deliver. I have to admit, BB and their delivery guys were all first-class. Everyone friendly, everyone knowledgable. The T.V. arrived earlier than expected, in apparent perfect condition. The Geek Squad set up the stand, were very careful to set up the T.V. properly and even moved my old, and heavy, LDC set outside on my porch. I am thrilled there we no cracks or dead/stuck pixels, at least that I can see from scrutinizing the screen. I have begun the burn-in process, but just looking at a brief clip of "Cars" on Blu-Ray I was ecstatic at the picture. Mind-boggling good. I cannot imagine how it will look once I have passed the burn-in period and calibrated it (hopefully with D-Nice's settings). Count me as a very happy Kuro owner and consumer of BB/Magnolia. I truly hope everyone else on this forum is so fortunate when buying and taking delivery of their Kuro. Thanks to everyone, especially D-Nice, for all the wonderful and valuable info.

I got my 151HD today. I'm running the BreakIn DVD.

I don't hear any buzz, and I'm very happy overall.

I hope the motion improves. Watching some things right after I set it up made me a little bit seasick.

My old Fujitsu didn't have this problem, that I remember.

A 'thank you' and a comment:

The 'thank you' is for D-Nice and for the expert tech freebies he has given to the multitudes that view this forum; his PDP evaluations and recommended display settings are priceless!

I currently have a Pio PDP-5070 (about 2-yrs old). I used D-Nice's break-in settings at time of delivery and have never seen the need make any modifications since that time; they worked out perfectly.

As I await delivery of a 151FD (hopefully from forum sponsor VE in the near future) I feel that the 151 is going to be significantly challanged to improve on the picture I now receive on the PDP-5070 while viewing almost all of the HD channels via a Comcast SA-8300 HD-DVR box. This is a serious comment; the picture right now on that display is really that good!

So, for anyone familiar with photography prior to the digital era, I going to hope that the transition from the 5070 to the 151 will pretty much approximate the difference between Ektachrome (a little graininess, great color) and Kodachrome (virtually grainless, saturated [but correct] color).

Any other analogies are welcome...

-George

P.S. Can someone please expedite delivery of a 151 to D-nice's residence. (Robert, I think that you're responsible.)

I failed to mention in my brief review of my 151 that absolutely no buzzing that I can detect, none at all. My hearing isn't the best after many years of heavy metal concerts, but if there is any buzzing, it has to be minimal.
