I'll let you know how part two goes.

Sometimes, the HDMI handshake doesn't occur properly between the source and the display. As a result, the display can change to RGB PC color space. The picture then appears dull and washed out. Manually changing the color space to RGB Video should solve the problem.

If a calibrator is unaware of a panel/source colorspace mismatch then things are not going to end well.

Interesting Observation: I own a Pro-101FD. I visited a friend of mine who owns a Pro-111FD. When the monitors are entirely switched off, I found that my friends 111FD screen looked much blacker than my 101FD. Mine looks grey, even with most ambient light switched off. Also, when we watched some DVDs, the horizontal black bars on his TV appear blacker than those on my 101. Whats going on?

Any of:
  1. One or both panels are improperly adjusted/calibrated.
  2. Your set-up is not quite correct.
  3. Your friend's set-up is not quite correct
  4. Unless they're side by side environmental effects are at play.
  5. Something else entirely.

It's quite unlikely either panel is defective.

I've looked for this setting but can't find it. Is it on the TV?

Round two.
Blu-ray looks fantastic
Satellite looks washed out.
I don't use isf-day or night on satellite.
Its to0 bad the settings are locked out you can't adjust anything.

I do find the Pure settings seem better.
After getting the calibration do the other settings change on this panel?

You can get KuroReader and save your settings and get ControlCAL to change them.

Does anybody know of another calibrator in Vancouver who would come over to Nanaimo?

I am guessing you already have had your 141 professionally calibrated.

1st. If you are not happy about some of your settings, call your calibrator. He/She will probably come back and reset your settings, when in your area.

2nd. Why not use your ISF day/night settings for your satellite.

If you need to use RGB 16-235 color space for your satellite, you can change that setting with out having to access your ISF setting. But don't forget to change it back to auto or whatever its set for.
If you have your satellite on a different HDMI port, then use your HDMI port that is setup for ISF day/night. Set color space as needed and see if you like the PQ. If you do then buy a copy of Controlcal and clone your ISF settings for the HDMI port you use for satellite, along with color space setting.

Yes, it's on the TV.
On the menu, click INPUTS. There, under the respective INPUT, click on VIDEO. Now you can change it to RGB 16-235. That should give you the picture you're looking for. Once you change the color space, change to ISF-day and see whether you like how it looks.

Thanks for the response. Yes I'm very surprised how washed out the Satellite signal is. I have the satellite going directly into input 6 of the tv.

Actually, that option is called INPUT SETTINGS in the Menu.

Did you manage to change INPUT 6 Video to RGB 16-235? Do you like how the picture looks in this RGB setting?

Changing the input to RGB 16-235 did help the satellite picture. No more washed out picture. Why is that?. The satellite still looks better on "Pure" or "Standared" setting though.

I'm thinking to change it for my Blu-ray player input.

I'm thinking to change it for my Blu-ray player input.

I use three different video input settings; one for DirecTV, one for Time-Warner cable and another for my Oppo 83 DVD player.

D-Nice did the calibration for my 141 and each of the settings is drop dead gorgeous. I use both an ISF day and night setting.

I have been too lazy to date to attempt to figure out how to get my Harmony One programmed to work on my system. That's my next chore. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to handle the different video inputs with the Harmony?

if you search back through this thread you will find the codes that allow direct access to "AV selections" or if you cant find them feel free to PM me and I can send them to you. All you need ot do then is contact Harmony and request they add the codes to your harmony account ( i think you can even request they copy from another users account. Then you can program a single button that sets the input/av selection/isf mode/screen size all with the click of a button.

In search of video bliss...

You're saying there are IR codes to directly select Pure/Standard/etc. etc.?

I have never seen the discrete IR codes for choosing individual AV selections posted. Can someone please point me to the post which has them? Also if they exist why wouldnt someone have loaded them into the Harmony data base yet?

I noticed for some odd reason under the picture setting while in ISF (pic below) the V. position was set to -7. Since I noticed this the day after Michael calibrated my display I figured it was done in error while he was here. I also figured that the reason I could not change the V. position was because it was in ISF mode and no changes could be made (aside from screen size). I was right and wrong.

Michael came back and spent about an hour with me trying to figure out what we were seeing and we concluded the following.

1.) The reason I couldn't change the V position was because I was in Dot by Dot which does not allow you to change it. Any other screen size lets you regardless if you are in ISFccc or not.

2.) Sure enough the -7 happens, or at least shows on the screen as it does not actually move the picture a -7.

3.) what was not able to be confirmed was what caused this. The -7 showed up with different source signals. Sometimes with 1080i and sometimes with 1080p. It never actually changed the position of the picture. It only showed when using Dot by Dot.

So I can confirm it has nothing to do with the calibration or any settings done incorrectly by the user. Sometimes the display shows a -7 and sometimes not...i dont know why...yet.

Are you pleased with Michael doing your calibration? I wonder if he would come to the island and do mine.

On the bezel:

I use a good quality micro-fiber cloth. Rub only as hard as needed to do the job. If you have to rub very hard - don't!!! Dampen a corner of the cloth with distilled water and wring it out as dry as possible. Using the wet corner, rub gently to remove the smears. Then wipe with the dry part of the cloth to remove any residue.

On the screen:

Be EXTREMELY careful about rubbing harder than absolutely needed. Pioneer warns against using *any* liquid on the screen. That said, if you are EXTREMELY careful and only use distilled water, on the micro-fiber cloth (wrung out very well first)... you can spot clean marks - that otherwise can't be removed with just the dry cloth.

Do this at your own risk and be VERY careful not to rub harder than you absolutely need.

I've cleaned my 141's bezel and screen this way several times with no problems... YMMV

On an ongoing basis, I use a swiffer-like product to keep dust/dirt from building up on the bezel/screen, so I don't have to clean with the cloth and/or distilled water. As with cleaning, just barly touch the surface and rotate the swiffer often, so you always have a clean part of the swiffer brushing the surface.

New to the site. Way to much information. I just put a 141 on my wall. The picture is quite good already. Was wondering if I could do a basic calibration myself. Anything posted on this site I could trust and copy/follow. Thanks in advance for your help.
