I have a TH-50PX60U I purchased in November 2006. It recently started shutting off on it's own. It can be turned back on after I hold down the power button for a few seconds to reset it, and then turn it back on.
The LED next to the power button blinks 5 times. Any idea what the cause is?

Wow - great that Panasonic builds that kind of failure identification into their TVs, but I guess it's not so good when you're the one watching the blinks and it's out of the warranty period

Curious - do other manufacturers do the same thing?

Sure, it helps their tech identify problems quickly

Thanks! I will assume, and I hate doing that, that there codes are pretty standard across the different plasma models.

After the tip above, I did a google search on "5v SOS D Board", which could be my problem area based on the 5 blinks.

The results of the search.
A bunch of technical trainings from what looks to be Panasonic are available. It talks about a lot of the blinking errors for different generation plasmas from panasonic.

Looks like a pretty good reference for problems.

After not being on for a week I return home and turn on my 50panny plasma, it runs for a few min then shuts down with the 5 blink code. How do I resolve this? Should I take it in to get it repaired? How much should it cost? Thanks for your help!

I just called Abt electronics where I purchased the tv to see if I could drop it off today, and apparently they looked me up and said I purchased a 4 year warranty! I don't remember doing this but I'm not going to argue about it, so they are sending some people to my house to see if they can fix it. Now I know why I always buy my tv's (4 plasma's so far!) from them. I will keep you updated on what the 5 blinking lights what it means and how to fix them.

I had the "5 blinks of death" issue last night. Chatted with the panasonic concierge but they said call a repair man. I bought mine Dec. 06. Fortunately, I got the extended 3 yr warrenty (Which I never buy...)

Looks like a 5V SOS D Board issue. Repair man will be here Monday.

I just had the 5 blinking lights situation occur on the same tv on 6/20/11, after years since buying it new in 2007. I just had a tech come by today and diagnose the problem. Just in case anyone out there is having the same problem on this same model...the 5 blinking lights mean the power supply board needs to be replaced. Not an expensive part. Love this TV!

How much did it cost you to fix? I have the same model and the same problem.

i pulled my d board my self and sent it out to a guy on ebay and had it rebuilt for like $100 easy to pull the boards its all just screws n a couple of wire clips u can find the location of all the boards on panasonics website plus it gives you a chance to clean out 5-8 years of dust but has worked great for about 2 years or more now
