Please help me decide whether to keep my PDP5080HD or get the Samsung 50PNA550. Both units cost about the same, I currently have the 5080 and could return it and get the 50PNA550 for $50 less.

Why are you considering returning the 5080? That's a high end set and the 550 is really just mid-range.

There are ways in which the 550 is better (resolution and color accuracy), but I think most likely you'll be happier with the 5080.

How close do you sit to the TV?

I'm sitting about 9 feet away from the TV.

if you are concerned about color accuracy then get the pio calibrated. I really don't see what reason you have for wanting to get a 550 when you have a kuro. Less depth, less detail, worse blacks, super reflective screen. It just doesn't make sense. Professional reviewers still picked this over other 1080p sets in a blind test and most said that at your distance the 5080 had more detail anyway.

"But if you didn't know the test set was 768p and not 1080p, you would never guess. And no one on the panel did".—Tom Norton (That was at a distance of 8ft(4X the screen ht)

please explain why you are thinking about getting the 550.

While I think that the 5080 is better, let's be fair to the 550. First, it will have a more detailed picture than the 5080 -- more than twice as detailed, as a matter of fact. From nine feet, chances are that doesn't matter, and there's a whole lot more to picture quality than resolution. Still, the 550 is more detailed.

Also, no calibrator can get the 5080 to have color as accurate as the 550. It's just not possible.
