Hello everyone. I'm patiently waiting for my fed return to pick up the TC-P50X1. I have always liked plasma over lcd.

Why I'm posting though is I remember back in Feb 2008 CES Panasonic was demonstrating a "wii proof" plasma screen that could take a 4 joule smack and not be affected. They mentioned employing this new tech into their new models. So I emailed them and asked if these new models had this new wii proof screen. The reply I got was the following, take it as you will.

"Mr. Flickinger,

I am just a co-op over at Panasonic but I have to go over the case reviews that go for my department. This one doesn't but I want to go out of the way to say that all Panasonic Plasmas are Wii-proof

Rob"

I'm pretty sure one guy seeing artifacts on ripped movies and another guy seeing film grain on his PZ80 don't constitute a trend, or even the start of a trend of "grainy picture problems" with the new Panasonics.

However, the 6 unique posters on page 15 with glowing reports about their new sets and repeated statements about the incredible value looks like a trend to me

Because when they sit off to the side, they can't even see the image, thus no noise reported.

Yes it was just the rip I compared with some HD content from Dish and saw nothing, sorry didn't mean to freak anybody out.

When I view the 20 slides on my PC's Samsung LCD monitor I can see the 5 gradients each of white, red, green and blue.

When I view the 20 slides on my TC-P50X1 I can see the 5 gradients of white, but I'll be darned if I can see the 5 gradients of red, green and blue. They are full screen and I can see the slide change I just can't see the RGB gradients change.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

When I ran mine the colors weren't extremely different looking but you could slightly tell. If your sure you have all the right images on the card then I don't really see how something can be wrong.

No apologies necessary, nobody's freaking out Just looking to make sure that the right conclusions are drawn to keep the signal to noise ratio up.

I won't mention dollar amounts, just percentages.
It is on sale for 10% under MSRP, there is an instant 10% rebate from Panasonic, an instant 10% rebate from Sears if you use your Sears card and free next day delivery. That's 30% off at the cash register and free delivery.

This post prompted me to go to Sears with my cash in hand. I saw absolutely nothing resembling this deal at my local B&M so this is probably very highly YMMV. The set was priced 10% off of retail but no mention of a rebate and no mention of another 10% by using Sears card. No mention of a rebate on Panasonic's site either.

Ealmon, just wondering what the model number and firmware version are of the box you are using? Assuming it's a Motorola issue they may be working on a fix for it or already have one and Comcast just needs to deploy it.

I got 10% more than I expected; the salesman just kept scanning barcodes from sheets at the cash register. They aren't itemized on the receipt, just called a MULT CREDIT $ of $199.99. I was anxious to sign in the box before something changed.
I knew I could get a 10% Panasonic mail-in rebate http://content.sears.com/ue/elec/22009_ElecA4_MIR.pdf
and a 5% Credit Card mail-in rebate at Sears.com, but figured 10% upfront is worth 15% mail-in. When the store total turned out to be 20% I was thrilled.

Did you go to a salesman and ask to have the sheets at the register scanned?

I was there and saw the new Samsung PN42B450 and PN50B450. Holy cow the glare was CRAZY. If you see one of these, turn the TV off and look into the screen. If you have food on your teeth, you'll see it in your reflection. I have to admit I love the swivel stand it comes on. Still no buyer's remorse on my TC-P50X1.

When I view the slides as thumbnails on the TV I can see some difference in the RBG gradients. So I guess my eyes are overwhelmed by the huge screen of one solid color.

I called the store and they have a sheet they scan with the extra 10% off for Panasonic on top of the sales price and if you use your Sears card it qualifies it for 36 month same as cash. Site shows special financing under special offer when you look at the set, but not about the extra 10% sheet,IN STORE ONLY PROMO.
Sales person didn't tell me about it either last night, but today the salesperson told me about the sheet when I called. I am going tomorrow hoping a S1 comes in on the truck. If not I will order it for next Tuesday.

I was not overly impressed either at Sears with the PQ but as others have stated ,in store PQ is not always the best. Once I got it home and set up the picture was amazing IMHO. I plan on using D-Nice's settings once break in is done which should only enhance the PQ! I am sure that spending hundreds more you would get an improved Picture but for the price, I know that I am completely satisfied!!!

I was wondering if anybody has had problems after adjusting settings(tc-p50x1). I calibrated my set after 100 hours. It now has much better color and is more natural looking. One thing that got worse is it seems to have lots the crispness or sharpness and is softer looking. I actually noticed some grainy/noise that was not there before the calibration. I tried tweaking further, but no change. It seems it only is there while watching direct tv. hd or SD does not matter, it does it on both. Maube it is the signal from direct tv? Maybe I should recalibrate?

If you do not like the silver strip on the TV like me, it is just a sticker and peels off quite cleanly, leaving gloss black underneath with no holes, etc. I did this on my TC-P42X1.

Yah you might as well, thats what I did, I didn't use the break in much at all, but you should still probably wait to get as close to a result as he got.

If you don't do his break-in, his settings will not work properly. There's just no point.

I just gotta know why. If I've watched my TV for a 100 hours already without D-Nice's Break-in settings, what's the difference. It seems like if I've gotten all those little phospors nice and "seasoned" by watching my plasma at the Standard Setting, how are they going to be any different than if I ran a slide show for 100 hours on a dim setting. Are my little pixels now speaking French while D-nice's are speaking English. I'm not trying to be a smart-a$$ here but just help me resolve in my mind why D's setting won't work if I didn't use his break-in. I thought the point of break-in was to make the thing burn-in resistant as the first 100 hours the plasma can be more susceptible to it.

D-nice's settings work because the break-in process provides a reference point that produces replicable results by aging phosphors uniformly. If you watch your TV instead of using the break-in process, your TV will still be fine in terms of burn-in. However, the calibration settings won't be spot-on because the phosphors will age differently based upon which programs you watch.

That said, if you have the opportunity to do a professional calibration later on after the 100 hour mark, your TV will have a better picture than by using the "recommended settings" no matter what you have done to break it in (within reason).

So you're saying that basically if we didn't follow the break-in procedure to the tee, it is pointless to use these offsets and settings?

My situation is that I currently have about 150 hours logged, with about 60% using the break-in dvd, and about 40% of regular viewing. If I used D-Nice's settings, would my results be significantly different from what he is getting?
