If Panasonic told you .006 for the NeoPDP sets, that's not much of an improvement over the X series if they do measure .008. I guess they are just going to be much brighter which I could really care less about.

Then I guess the 8G Kuro at .004 isn't much of an improvement over the NeoPDP

Let's wait until we get the actual number. Based on all the X1's I've seen, I'd be hesitant to put it in the same black level league as my pz85, which is around .008.

I am glad that D-Nice picked up the X1 so that we will be able to put the black level speculation to rest.

D-Nice...sorry you got angry. What I was saying is compare apples to apples. Pioneer Kuro Elite is going to blow the X1 out of the water on all tests. You comparing the X1 to the Elite will only translate into the minds of some folks as the X1 being of poor quality. Your tests will be lost in translation.

All comparisons with the Pioneer Elite will have the X1 as a failure. When the X1 is an excellent entry level plasma compared to other entry level plasmas/LCDs.

That's all. Don't know if you understand what I mean? But any results you receive will be appreciated and analyzed.

Please explain to me exactly how you have come to your conclusions when I have YET to detail my findings beyond minimum luminance levels? The 42X1 I have has YET to see anything beyond the break-in slides.

Common sense arleady tells me that the X1 will not match an Elite in overall performance. I'm not interested in doing a Pioneer Elite vs Pansonic X1 pissing match anyway. I'm only interested in this panel's raw performance and how that performance can be translated into an objective review. If you are expecting anything beyond that, I highly recommend you look elsewhere because you will not get that from me.

Well this seems to be a more detail explanation of your tests. Anyone just reading your previous quotes would think you are doing a side by side comparison. If you are looking for a "reference" point, and using the Pioneer to determine the basic performance of the X1, I understand.

And these are just simple questions from people like myself that are not in your head and are trying to understand your tests better. That's all. No need to get all emotional about it.

What I like most about the X1:
1. It's a Panny, which has a good reputation.
2. The price, which is less that 1K depending on where you shop.
3. 30,000 - 1 Constrast Ratio = better contrast detailing. My other HDTV is a rear projection LCD and the blacks and shadow detail are so much better on the X1.
4. The 600HZ refresh rate.
5. The number of HDMI inputs (3).
6. Energy Star certified means it costs me less to use it.
7. The ability to change the Aspect Ratios so I can remove the black bars.
8. The anti-burn in technology.
9. The way it views SD and HD content.
ect. ect.

I do want some people to post some calibrations that they are using, as right now I don't have a good calibration disk.

Is this the absolute best TV for the money I'm spending? If my other choice is a Samsung, Vizio, or Sylvania from Walmart then I think so!

If I wanted to spend another $500 I'm sure I could get a lot better set.

This is what I suspected considering the max power was reduced by 100 Watts, the same as the NeoPDPs. The results should be interesting.

Last year he was posting about possibly getting a PZ800U for his 3-year old daughter. I doubt your job assumption is correct (I know you were kidding).

The plasma he bought is the 720p, non neo panel. Why did you have the impression that the blacks would be significantly lower than last year's 720p models?

The specs say they doubled the contrast ratio and lowered the black level.

You mean like a Celeron was a brain-dead Pentium?

I'm inclined to think that the P50X1 (and maybe the P42X1 too) is more likely a "technically" crippled PX80U.

I'll be looking forward to any objective test data (especially on the 50), along with everyone else. Who knows -- maybe the green primary is more accurate than it was. But I'll wager that, in the end, the Contrast Ratio of the P50X1 is less than the Contrast Ratio of the 50PX80U, measured just about any way you want to (except blank "infinite black" screen mode).

Maybe it depends on how one looks at it, but from my perspective, that doesn't make the Neo PDP sound too good.

Edit:
When I think of it as the panel that doesn't incorporate 5 lumen tech, it doesn't sound so bad.

I'm expecting great things from the Neo PDP.

The specs on these models PX80U and X1 are the same. Only major difference is the contrast ratio has doubled on the new model. Also it has a new more sleeker look. And it consumes less power. If you are looking for "major" differences - you're not going find them. Panasonic is not using any "new" untested technology on the X1. It's just a new model # basically.

If people have been posting that the X1 looks dim even compared to the PX models, and the black levels have been nothing to get excited about, how do they share anything in common with the NeoPDP sets? Did Panasonic just take the NeoPDP panel and cripple the brightness output to extremely low levels?

I don't know why Panasonic always disables overscan adjustment for their 720p sets. If you have an xbox 360, blu-ray, or htpc you won't be able to get 0%. Some computer video cards allow you to adjust for underscan but even with this you are still scaling twice just to get the picture back to full screen. I know you can do this with Samsungs on 1080i/p sources.
