Short of getting the unit completely calibrated, this is the best picture you can get...

Unless you can afford to get an Elite, the 500M is the way to go...

I think the 500M should be perfect for me. But still considering the speakers and also the stand vs wall mount issue. All the plasmas that I have owned have been wall mounted. The first screen I will buy will be for our basement playroom/family room. The stand may work nicely if I put in an armoire (not purchased yet) with the advantage of being able to cover/protect the screen while the kids are playing with light sabers, etc. But I also worry about the potential of someone knocking over the screen on the stand... can it easily be pulled forward and cause injury? Would appreciate hearing from anyone with experience with this issue w/ respect to kids/safety. If I go with the armoire, I assume there is little to no possibility of mounting it to that?

The 2nd screen I may buy would be for our upstairs living/family room... will definitely be put in an armoire and may need to be angled from time to time for different areas of viewing. Again, any experience/thoughts would be appreciated.

The final screen I may buy (if budget allows) will be for our upstairs bedroom. Likely will wall mount until the boss insists on an armoire.

BTW, how are the Pioneer stock speakers? Only experience I have with them are with the PDP5016 from a few years ago (was a throw in for the PROFHD1 purchase). They work OK but nothing special...

The stock speakers on the Kuros are actually very good. Quite clear with excellent seperation-- head and shoulders above the sound offered by any other brand. Being tv speakers though, they lack a strong low end. It's pretty obvious that Pioneer intended them to be paired with a good sub, hence the inclusion of a sub out, a feature uncommon on tvs these days I believe.

Up until recently, I've been using a pair of decent pc speakers that have a fairly solid subwoofer. However, the Pioneer's sound bar offers superior clarity, and as I've recently discovered, can sound pretty awesome with some low end support. I'm seriously considering just getting a better sub and calling it a day. This combination should be more than enough for smallish rooms like the one my Kuro is in, and I see no need to invest in a full 5.1-7.1 system until I need more powerful sound to fill a large room.

The 500M doesn't come with an onboard sound system and doesn't have a sub out like the tv models though. You can attach/mount Pioneer stock speakers to them however.

Basically Elite and the Signature have better anti-glare, much better picture controls, better video processing, and IMO a much nicer looks.

M-series a lot closer to Elite in PQ than xx20.

The KRP-M series (Kuro Reference Panel - Monitor) are very similar to the signature panels but they lack the ISF options. This is the thread that compares them all. Check out page 1.

The fact that you can get a KRP-600M for under $3000, makes it a virtual no-brainer for any serious videophile who already has the "other" stuff.

remarkable bargain, in my estimation.

It is a great bargain but people still like the ability to have the unit calibrated in ISF to get the best possible picture for their environment so I still see much demand for the Elites and Signatures.

Agree. I also think the Elites look a lot nicer!

How's the stock levels on 111fd and Signatures? Are we seeing the last batches come out?

I see one 111 right now and that might be it. Signatures are out there in low numbers so we are ok for a little bit.

the only difference is the elite logo. is that making you think it looks better? i for one would prefer no logo at all but i can deal with the underlying pioneer logo on the m series.

No, it's not! I haven't seen M-series in person, but FOR SURE the frame of xx20 is of cheaper quality, if you see them side-by-side you can toally see it.

Then why don't you wait until you do or ask if any of the many people who have seen them both would agree with you?

I was comparing non-Elite to Elite, meaning xx20 vs. 111/151.

I have to say I agree with Viper on this. What is the huge deal with taking 2 minutes of your time to answer a simple question for someone? It could easily take about 10-30 times as long for him to find out the answer by "searching the archives" or reading thousands of posts in a given thread. It's also not a bad thing to have the same information in multiple threads for others to more easily stumble across. And by stating the answer twice it's not creating much more of a mess than half the other crap people put in here, including this statement I'm making. (Sorry for that.) At least his question relates to the Kuros unlike many other posts!

With that said, I'm getting my KRP-500M TOMORROW! Upgrading from a Sony 60A3000. Jumping out of my shoes here.....

What exactly is the TV tuner? 141FD lacks it and the speakers. I was wondering if I should go for 111FD or 141FD now...

For the 141 or Krps you would need a cable box like Comcast or Dish etc and thats it.

The tuner accepts so-called over the air (OTA) signals. They can also accept certain cable signals. The tuner + speakers converts a monitor (like the one attached to your computer) into a television. These are not needed if you have a sound system and get your video from "cable" or satellite. The fact that the 111 is 50" versus the 60" 141 would be more important to a lot of people.

I did a search but could not find it. Does anyone know the size of the pallet for the 111FD and the total palletized weight? I want to make sure of my plan for when I pick it up this weekend. I'll have at least one other good sized guy with me.

Edit: I should have known that the Pioneer site would have the info. They list the carton size as 52-7/8” x 38-3/8” x 20”, but I'm still not sure if that includes the pallet.

Guys,

How come the KRP-500M and 600M are not shown on the Pioneer USA website?
These are supposed to be North American models right?

They are on a hidden page:

I heard that was because they were supposed to be targeted towards custom installers, etc, and not for the retail market.

It almost certainly doesn't but the pallets I've seen are standard height, exactly the dimensions of the box but built of thinner wood. They only weigh a few pounds.

My 500M came on a pallet the same size as the carton, and then was strapped to a standard size (4'x4'?) larger pallet...

I was thinking about getting the 500m, and I have a wallmount I never used that came with my pioneer 4361. Anyone know if the wallmount from a 43 inch TV will also work for a 50 inch? I've never tried to mount one before. What about for the 600m? Would it work for that?
