ez there iron chef, enjoy your tv and let it run for a while. What's the hurry? You should not get it calib for at least 200hrs IMHO. I know the rule is 100hrs but I've had 5 ISF'd in the past and found at least 200hrs or more if you want the best results.

And just want to add that of course calibrators will tell you 100hrs is good enough because it's money in their hands. I really don't appreciate it too much when they want you to give them an appt date asap. I've been pressured in the past into doing that but now I just wait until Im ready THEN I contact them that way there's no pressure to schedule a date.

You made a great choice on the G10 and another one ordering from Cleveland Plasma.

i'm trying to decide between the 42 & 46 g10 (or s1)...i was extremely happy with my 42" pz700u until it was stolen last month anyway, since i started looking again, the 46's are luring me in...we sit about 9ft. back from the tv and my last 42 seemed just right in the room...any opinions on how the 46 will seem at that viewing distance?

thanks so much!

If you were happy with the 700u I think you'll be thrilled with either a g10 or an s1.

From 9 feet I think 50" would be better than 46" but obviously either will be an improvement over a 42".

I saw the G10 in person last night at BB and was very impressed. The tv was surrounded by LCDs and the color pop was absolutely incredible. It obviously wasn't as bright as the surrounding LCDs, but the color was much more accurate and the shadow detail was incredible. Also, the blacks were near Kuro black in quality. Probably with a little tweaking, it would look incredible and hold its own against the Kuros. I was very impressed and with the price being what it is and with the inevitable sales after a few months, it will be an absolute steal compared to everything else out there.

I was that impressed.

just curious, did they have an s1 up for comparison as well? the bb near here didn't have either up, only the x1.

thats more than enough room for a 46 -- i would get a 50 -- with me - i tend to feel that TVs gets smaller in time -- i have a 40 and sit about 6 feet - i feel its too small to get that Wow effect with movies -

i will be going with a 50 - once the V comes out - so i can decide if its worth the price - they say - 5 feet is the minimum for a 50 inch -

Heh, finally a topic I know something about. Good'ol FTP, correct?

I'm hoping that they either have the 54'-58" V10 in "stock" this summer, or can be arm-twisted to get one.

We,ve been very happy with the 42pz700u also and in July will be replacing a cheap 3yr old 42 inch SANYO with either a 54 inch G10 or 54 inch S1 depending on reviews. Anyway our distance will be 9 and a half feet and from checking this seems like plenty of distance for a 54 inch.

Didn't see an S1 although I am not too familiar with this year's model number sequence. The only other new Panny they had on display, was the 720p version (X1 I think). It was pretty darn good too considering the price and a definite step above last year's PX80.

Both of these were at the Quail Springs BB here in OKC btw.

Thanks for the concern - this isn't my first rodeo. Does anybody (Chris?) have the dimensions for the mounting locations on the back of the 46"G10? I need to make sure the mount I have will fit. (Before anyone helpfully tells me that it will, the concern isn't the bracket/panel interface. The question is whether the bracket will allow for enough lateral movement to center the panel between the speakers. Thanks.

Meant to say near Kuro black, not Kuro black (my eyes aren't that dumb!)

My point is, the Panasonic has narrowed the gap considerably over last years models as best as I can tell. Of course, the Kuro was two aisles down by itself as if an outcast since it is now dead.

The G series must be seen in dim conditions to be fully appreciated. The first time I saw it I ruled it out because the blacks were flat and there was no pop. It was bright around it, but with Panny claiming these sets are a lot brighter I expected the bright room condition to not be an issue. I saw the set 1 week later in a dimmer enviornment and it looked miles better. Blacks looked solid as did colors. I didnt care for the grain, though that could have been the source.

careful ...don't want to start a riot (even if the Panny is half the price)
I do expect the new V series to rival the world famous king of all that is mighty Kuro

When these models were being shown at CES there were comparisons between the picture on the 2009's using 1/3 of the power of the 2007's. I thought I also recalled that instead of the power savings you would get a brighter screen using the same power of the 2007's. I haven't heard any of the new owners making any remark about this. For you fortunate owners out there are there any power adjustments concerning what I just mentioned?

According to D-Nice they use the same panel and internals, so performance should be basically the same as a G10. I wouldn't get your hopes up.

No. The contrast only changed because of higher light output..

In THX mode at 37fl without doing the calculation I'll bet the contrast is no higher than 4000:1 or about the same as last year. At 40fl a Kuro is above 30 000:1 if you want to compare that way.

If you put a Kuro to the same brightness as those TVs (60fl+) you'd be pushing 60 000:1.

30K to 1 versus 4k to 1. That's pretty much a clear cut victory. So that's a general contrast measure, how about ANSI?

Too bad about the Kuro is only 50" because they'd be selling a ton of them if around in 42".

It's all just a game. I just play to win.

Well to my eyes the letter boxes on this puppy is black. The letter boxes on all my other tv's have never been this black, they have always been a shade of grey. I'm loving this tv and I'm going to go butter up my wife to get a ps3 today from bb....

Yes. I think it's more important to focus to the actual picture than numerical measurements. The measurements are valid only in a completely dark room afterall.

+1000.

that's the only reason i read these panny threads every few days. i'd kill for a pro-950hd. as it stands, 46" S1/G10, pending data on calibrated color comparisons.
