The BD85 does have an SD slot and as it is connected to the TV, I'm also wondering if I can use the BD to install an TV update?

No you cannot, if your tv had an Ethernet port or wifi capable then maybe but from the looks of it you must do it via the SD slot!

I thought I read this somewhere but now I can't find it. I get my 65VT30 sometime next week and was planning on running the slides. I see that the 2.2 update is out, so are you supposed to apply the update before running the slides or does it matter. My plan was to apply the update, then run the slides. Also I wasn't sure what mode it was supposed to be in. I think I read that it's not supposed to be in THX. Is that right?

Need. More. Bass.

Hello all,

I just bought a used 46 inch G10. It's got firmware version 1.30.

It looks pretty good... no burn in or IR whatsoever.

I noticed that in the stock factory THX setting the contrast=100; brightness=58 and color =50.
Does that indicate that the stock THX setting is already maxed out and there's no room for improvement? (Not counting professional calibration right now since that alone will cost as much as the TV I got.)

(bump) I have a Viera g20 on the living room. Compared to G20 in THX mode, the G10 in THX mode has real low light output and that settings seems appropriate only in dim or non-lighted room. The G10 goes in my bedroom, by the way.

I believe the dimness on THX was a common complaint on this model. There was a firmware update that supposedly fixed some issue in THX mode, but I don't remember the specifics. Just make sure you have the latest firmware. I myself have never cared for the THX mode and never used it.

I looked at the back panel and it says that my Viera G10 was built in November 2009. So is it right to assume that the THX color problem was fixed with my November-2009 G10?

I don't know. It can't hurt to hook it up to the internet and check for a firmware update.
