basically its what says on the subject...There is a guy locally selling an Elite 151FD 60" on craigslist for a good price....i dunno about buying off there though...I have a 111FD 50" from BB that is still within the return period so i am considering it because he has the 151 for less than what I paid...Says its new in the box non-refurb.

Would anyone else do this? obviously not an authorized dealer so warranty is out the window.

I would not unless I was desperate for that particular model and could inspect/test it in person.

I would not since you dont know if you can trust them like you can a company by checking their resellerratings dot com
Also there are still some 151's out there in small qtys so just look around.

I found it........>>>>
http://houston.craigslist.org/ele/1171066122.html

Wow, nice price. Id email him and get his phone number and give him a call
and investigate it at least. If I talked to him and was comfortable with it id buy it in a heartbeat, that is a smoking hot price.

I just sent the guy an email.

Hello there, I saw your PRO-151FD on Craiglist, $2400 is a nice price.
I will buy it, but do you have another by any chance because Id buy 2 if you do have them. Oh and do you take Paypal? If so I can pay you right away for both of them if you do have 2. Let me know asap.

thanks, James

$2400 for in box new pro151 smells bad fishy

the guy could get way more even on ebay if it was on the up n up.
IF you really have to consider it,........get the serial number off the outside box and contact pioneer or the local police to check it. still never hand over any cash until you can inspect and turn it on. get a bill of sale and have it notarized at a bank or somewhere that will check his id. does he have the sale invoice where he purchased it legally????? if so then the warranty will transfer to you.

smart thing would be just to let it go, it really seems like a scam at that price. it's cracked, resealed, stolen or somethings wrong.

My two cents is that if something is too good to be true, it probably is. I've learned a few times the hard way. But if this does turn out to be legitimate, that would be one heck of a price for a 151.

I just bought a 6020fd from a guy who advertised it on Craigslist, but there's no way in hell I'd have given him the money had I not been able to inspect it, listen to it, fiddle with settings, and run my fingers through its hair beforehand.

If it's still "sealed" in the box, there's always the chance that something's been screwed up and someone re-sealed it; if it's actually factory sealed and not refurbished, then there's no way the seller knows what sort of condition it's in.

Why else wouldn't they ask more for it?

The musicians I listen to are so underground they haven't even heard of themselves.

my sentiments exactly...and does Pioneer honor their warranty if it does not come from an authorized dealer?
Seen these before Roman O?
ripoffs or what?

I am always wary of things like this...i got screwed over on Ebay for $300 before when buying some speakers a while back..
Got that guy back though...hope he enjoyed his time in federal prison for mail fraud.

And i always would suspect if it was stolen and from the way it looks on that palette...Houston is an enormous hub for shipping...if anything i would bet you that was "misplaced" off of someone elses shipment in some warehouse down by the airport or shipchannel.

I noticed the exact same post on the dallas/fort worth craigslist (it looks like it is the same guy) so I would be very careful. Sounds very fish to me.

I intend to sell one on there...especially if it doesn't garner any interest on here in the AVS classifieds (after a 2-week run).

I bought a Panasonic 65PF10UK for only $2000 on Craigslist, but I never would have done it if I couldn't have inspected and tested every inch of that TV in person. I've had the TV for 6 months and loving every inch of it without any issues. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be careful, especially on Craigslist.

hey guys, already got an email back "Hello ,
I am selling this television because for the last 4 months, my garage was it's home and the best way for it is to sell it. I don't want it get old in my garage so at this point there's no use on keeping it. The price is low because I need to sell it within 2 weeks. I already have plans for the cash. The television is in pristine condition, no scratches. If you are interested, it's still available for sale and the price, as stated in the ad, is $2150 . The television is in Provo , Utah and in case it gets sold I can get a low shipping cost. Let me know if you are interested, email back.
Thank you" the thing i find a funny is that it was listed in Bismark, ND, which is close to me but now it is in Utah. any one think its a scam? any help on a reply would be great
thanks,
John

Are you willing to lose the $ to find out if it is a scam? If the answer is no, then just walk away. Go with your gut.

The price is too good to be true for a 60 inch. Just google prices and you will see them for over $5000. This guy knows it too. He's looking for a sucker IMO.

now what do you guys think?
"Hello again ,
Glad to see you're still interested. The delivery process will be managed by me since I have someone who can help me on this.It will cost me almost nothing so about the shipping, we are covered. I think I can have it there at your home address within 4-6 working days. It will come with all the documents. I am a member of the eBay PPP (Payment Protection Program) and using this service you will get a 3 days testing period after delivery. During that 3 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details on this deal. If interested, please reply me with your full name and address so I can start making arrangements.

Thank you !"

I don't understand how Ebay would give him any protection on a transaction outside of Ebay. Besides, Paypal handles that. Does he have an auction up? Is he planning to put one up? And he's giving you three days to test it before you pay?? The whole thing sounds fishy to me. I'd proceed with extreme caution here.

He's going to hook you. What will happen is that the day of shipping, he will run into some "problems" with the shipper and needs $200 right away to ship it, and if you can wire him the money via Western Union. Some suckers thinking they are getting such a great deal will send him the money. Bye bye $200. I would not doubt he is emailing several people right now on this tv. He will pull that excuse with everyone, and then disappear with their money.

RIP Robin Williams. Thanks for the laughter.

Scam +2. I love craigslist, but it's a general rule for me that if the seller gives you any sort of run around about meeting up to check out the item to just walk away.

I was looking at getting another Corrado (VW car) and someone tried to scam me. Funny thing was they said they were in Pasadena Maryland but when I did a google search on their phone number it was Pasadena California social services fax machine. The car was 15 minutes down the road but I could not see it and he was going to ship it to me. 15 minutes down the road. I would say that someone else from the forum contact him and see if he gives you the same run around.
