Just a quick update on this. Avatar is supposed to come out on Tuesday, if I'm not mistaken, and I still haven't discovered whether or not it's going to work on the Samsung PN50A450.
A number of months back, I played a game called Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tau on the Xbox 360, and this particular game was actually in "true" stereoscopic 3D. This was a Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace game. I only tried the demo, but the demo did show off the 3D capabilities. For Invincible Tiger, although it was available on both the PS3 and Xbox 360, I could only play the Xbox 360 version in 3D on this particular plasma. The reason being, that the PS3 required a 1080p plasma, and the PN50A450 is a 720p plasma. With the Xbox 360 version, the developers of Invincible Tiger were somehow able to get the game to output a 1360 x 768 signal to my Samsung, and everything worked fine.
I'm still trying to find out if Avatar will do the same kind of thing on the Xbox 360. The thing is, I'm very concerned that it won't. In a pretty release from quite a long time ago, it said that 1080p and HDMI was a requirement. I'm hoping that it's just a requirement for the PS3 version, and hopefully the 360 version will also support 1360 x 768 like Invincible Tiger did.
I registered to the Ubi Soft forum for the game, and posted my question in the stereoscopic thread for the game.http://avatargame.us.ubi.com/#/discuss/forums
So far, haven't heard back. One of the developers that is keeping an eye on the thread has said that he hopes to have a full list of all TV's that will work with the game very soon. Since the game comes out next Tuesday, I just might have to rent it at Blockbuster and just see firsthand. It's going to be a huge disappointment if it doesn't work. I've heard that the 3D effects in this game is spectacular and puts games like Invincible Tiger to shame...
